When we came to the limits of towing capacity, we wanted to know what else was out there. What could we discover off the beaten path? So, we kept going. CURT class 5 Xtra Duty hitches begin a class of their own, beyond class 4 and beyond anything the standards dictate. They are designed for the hard road where only full-size pickup trucks, vans and SUVs dare to tread. They are capable of pulling almost any heavy-duty trailer, including toy haulers, dump trailers, logging trailers, small yacht trailers and more (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component). This particular Xtra Duty class 5 trailer hitch offers a gross trailer weight capacity of 16,000 lbs. and an extra-high tongue weight capacity of 2,400 lbs. It features a 2" x 2" receiver tube opening to accept a ball mount or hitch-mounted accessory, such as a cargo carrier or winch mount. It is designed to be a custom-fit trailer hitch for certain years of the Chevy Express 1500, 2500 or 3500 and GMC Savana 1500, 2500 or 3500 (to verify compatibility with your vehicle, see application info). For a little extra towing power and stability, this class 5 hitch can also be used in combination with a weight distributing hitch. It is rated for 17,000 lbs. WD and 2,400 lbs. WDTW. In our drive to create a more powerful hitch, CURT has not neglected the finer details. Our class 5 trailer hitches are welded with precision and go through multiple stages of cleaning to create a smooth surface that is ready to accept our co-cured finish. To protect them from corrosion, chipping and UV damage, these hitches are immersed in a liquid A-coat and then finished in a high-quality black carbide powder coat. They come with grade-8 mounting hardware for solid installation.
If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Chevy Express and GMC Savana 1500, 2500 and 3500 (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. You have a picture in mind of your next destination -- maybe it's the boat landing at your favorite fishing spot, maybe it's a campsite that overlooks one of nature's masterpieces, or maybe it's the next big jobsite. However, turning that picture into a reality takes more than just daydreaming. It takes a solid connection and the right amount of power. CURT custom wiring is made with some of the most sophisticated technology in the industry and is designed to install with ease, giving you a long-lasting electrical connection for your towing hitch setup.

Yes, the Curt 55377 is designed for Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana SUVs, mini and full-sized vans. The harness includes two ends with different coloured wires (yellow and green) to connect to the taillight wiring on both sides of the vehicle.
The Curt 55377 is a custom wiring harness designed to provide trailer lighting connections for Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vehicles. It includes a converter box that connects to the vehicle's existing taillight wiring and provides a 4-flat connector for trailer use.
The package includes a custom wiring harness with yellow and green wire ends, a black converter box, a white ground wire with ring terminal, a provided screw for grounding, double-sided tape for mounting the converter box, a 4-flat dust cover, and cable ties for securing loose wires.
You will need a drill with a 3/32" drill bit (if a suitable existing grounding point is not available), a screwdriver, and a test light or properly wired trailer for testing after installation. The manual does not specify additional tools required.
Open the rear doors and remove the rear scuff panel. Then remove the interior trim panels directly behind the taillights on both sides of the vehicle to locate the vehicle taillight wiring harness connectors. The connectors will be similar in appearance to those on the custom wiring harness.
Separate the vehicle's taillight connectors from the taillight housing, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. Insert the custom wiring harness end with the yellow wire between the separated connectors on the driver side. Make sure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Repeat on the passenger side using the harness end with the green wire.
Drilling is required only if a suitable existing grounding point is not available near the taillight connector. If needed, drill a 3/32" pilot hole in an area free of rust, dirt and paint. The manual warns to check for hidden items behind or under any surface before drilling to avoid damage and personal injury.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the taillight connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame. If no suitable point exists, drill a 3/32" pilot hole in an area free of rust, dirt and paint. Secure the white ground wire using the ring terminal and provided screw.
Locate a flat spot inside the vehicle near the taillight. Adhere the black converter box using the provided double-sided tape. The manual does not specify cure time or adhesive strength requirements.
When in use, route the 4-flat connector to the center of the vehicle and out of the trunk. When not in use, roll it up and store in a convenient, out-of-the-way location inside the trunk. Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties.
Test for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer. The manual states that all steps must be followed to ensure the wiring harness will function properly, but does not provide detailed testing procedures.
The Curt 55377 is rated for 3.0 amps per side for signal circuits and 5.0 amps total for tail and running circuits. Do not exceed these ratings or your vehicle's tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower. Exceeding the product rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.

Yes, you must open the rear doors and remove the rear scuff panel to access the interior trim panels behind the taillights where the vehicle's taillight wiring connectors are located.
Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion. The manual does not specify when or how to apply it, but it should be installed as part of the final step after all other components are in place.
