However you define adventure -- whether it's climbing onto the back of a mountain bike, hunting from the top of a tree stand or camping with the family a long way from nowhere -- CURT class 1 hitches provide a light-duty towing receiver to help you Bring It. Each is made to fit a specific vehicle, providing easier installation, a better fit and optimal towing capacity. Custom class 1 trailer hitches are available for a variety of smaller vehicle types, including the compact car, crossover, minivan and small SUV. This particular class 1 hitch is designed to be a custom hitch for certain years of the Chevy Cobalt, Chevy HHR, Pontiac Pursuit, Pontiac G5 and Saturn Ion (to verify vehicle compatibility, see the CURT application guide at curtmfg.com). Tested in accordance with SAE J684, it offers a weight carrying capacity of 2,000 lbs. GTW and 200 lbs. TW. It is equipped with 1-1/4" receiver tube opening to accept a ball mount shank or other hitch mount. This class 1 hitch also comes with all necessary mounting hardware. With its lightweight design and smaller receiver tube size, a class 1 hitch is especially useful for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted bike rack or cargo carrier. They can also typically be used to tow small trailers such as a utility trailer, kayak trailer or teardrop camper (never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component; i.e. the vehicle, hitch, trailer, etc). Though CURT class 1 trailer hitches are only intended for light-duty towing, we apply the same principles of quality as we do to the rest of our rear mount hitches. Each class 1 hitch is made with hands-on engineering, high-strength steel and precise welding. We use a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat, inside and out, and durable black powder coat to provide a lasting defense against rust, chips and UV rays.
If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Chevy Cobalt, Chevy HHR, Pontiac G5 and Pontiac Pursuit coupe (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. You have a picture in mind of your next destination -- maybe it's the boat landing at your favorite fishing spot, maybe it's a campsite that overlooks one of nature's masterpieces, or maybe it's the next big jobsite. However, turning that picture into a reality takes more than just daydreaming. It takes a solid connection and the right amount of power. CURT custom wiring is made with some of the most sophisticated technology in the industry and is designed to install with ease, giving you a long-lasting electrical connection for your towing hitch setup.

Part number 11447 is designed for Chevrolet HHR, Chevrolet Cobalt SS/LS/LT, Saturn Ion, Ion Redline, Pontiac Pursuit, and Pontiac G5. If your vehicle is one of these models, this hitch is compatible. If you have a different vehicle, this hitch will not fit.
The hitch is designed for use with ball mount D-20 or part number 45520. You must use one of these ball mounts with this receiver hitch.
The manual lists a gross load capacity of 2,000 lbs trailer weight and 200 lbs tongue weight when used as a weight-carrying hitch. However, you must not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower. Check your vehicle's owner manual for the maximum towing limit.
Non-trailer loads can be applied to this hitch, but they must be supported by auxiliary stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty. Do not rely on the hitch alone to support non-trailer cargo.
The hitch includes: four 1/2-13 UNC carriage bolts (part 10-10287), four 0.250 x 1.00 x 3.00" square hole spacers (CM-SP6), four 1/2-13 UNC serrated flange nuts (part 20-00062), and one 1/2" fishwire. All fasteners are grade 8 zinc-plated.
Yes. The first installation step requires you to drop the muffler and tailpipe by removing all rubber isolators from the hangers behind the rear axle. There will be either 2 or 3 isolators depending on your vehicle. On Ion Redline models, the rearward isolator hanger needs to be bent down slightly for fastener clearance.
Yes, drilling is required on some vehicles. On Cobalt, Pursuit, and Ion vehicles, you must drill both rear holes with a 9/16" drill bit using the rearmost slot that does not go all the way through the frame as a guide. On HHR models, you only need to enlarge the rearmost slot on the passenger side. The manual indicates drilling is required.
Yes. On HHR-SS models only, you must trim the center of the rear bumper fascia approximately 3" wide up to the first bend. This trimming is not required on other vehicle models.
All 1/2" fasteners must be torqued to 110 lb-ft. This torque is applied after the hitch is positioned against the trunk pan and all bolts are installed.
No. After installing the hex flange nuts on all four bolts in step 4, do not tighten them yet. First, slide the hitch toward the passenger's side and up against the trunk pan while holding it in position. Only then tighten the bolts and torque them to 110 lb-ft.
Use the fishwire to thread the 1/2" carriage bolts and spacer blocks through the access slots in the bottom of the frame on both sides. On Cobalt, Pursuit, and Ion vehicles, drill 9/16" holes first using the rearmost slot as a guide. On HHR, enlarge the rearmost slot on the passenger side only. The spacer blocks must span both sides of the slot.
Insert the carriage bolts and spacer blocks into the forward access slot and drop them back down through the slot, making sure the block spans both sides of the slot. Then proceed to slide the hitch up and over the muffler into place.
After torquing all 1/2" fasteners to 110 lb-ft, reinstall the muffler isolator hangers that you removed at the beginning of the installation.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. The manual does not specify an exact interval, but regular inspection is recommended to maintain safe operation.

Chevrolet HHR, Chevrolet Cobalt SS/LS/LT, Saturn Ion, Ion Redline, Pontiac Pursuit, and Pontiac G5.
A 9/16" drill bit is required for Cobalt, Pursuit, and Ion vehicles. A torque wrench is needed to torque fasteners to 110 lb-ft. The manual does not specify other tools required.
Drilling is required on Cobalt, Pursuit, and Ion vehicles (9/16" holes). On HHR, only the rearmost slot on the passenger side needs to be enlarged. Pontiac G5 uses the same holes as HHR.
Torque all 1/2" fasteners to 110 lb-ft after positioning the hitch against the trunk pan.
You must lower the muffler and tailpipe by removing the rubber isolators from the hangers. Full removal is not stated as necessary.
The hitch is rated for 2,000 lbs trailer weight and 200 lbs tongue weight, but you must not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
