The Curt 12126 has a gross load capacity of 3500 lbs trailer weight and 300 lbs tongue weight when used as a weight-carrying hitch. However, you must not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower. Check your vehicle's owner manual for the maximum towing limit.
The kit includes 6 hex cap screws (HHCS) M10×1.25×35 mm, class 10.9, zinc-plated (part 10-10298) and 6 conical washers 7/16 inch (part 30-00163). These fasteners secure the hitch to the existing frame weld nuts on both sides of the vehicle.
No, drilling is not required. The hitch uses existing weld nuts in the frame rails, so no new holes need to be created.
Two steps are required before installation: (1) Remove the exhaust hangers and lower the exhaust system for ease of installation, and (2) Remove the tow hooks and return them to the customer. The exhaust hangers must be reinstalled after the hitch is secured.
Raise the hitch into position and secure it using the 6 hex bolts (M10×1.25×35) and conical washers provided. Insert the fasteners through the hitch mounting holes and thread them into the existing weld nuts on both the driver and passenger side frame rails.
All 10 mm fasteners must be torqued to 48 lb-ft. This applies to all 6 hex bolts used to secure the hitch to the frame weld nuts.
After the hitch is secured and torqued, reinstall the exhaust hangers that were removed in the first step. This restores the exhaust system to its original position and support.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. This helps maintain safe operation and prevent loosening due to vibration and use.
