Yes, the spare tire must be removed. The installation instructions specifically require you to clear the trunk well by removing the tire before beginning installation.
The battery does not need to be disconnected. Step 1 instructs you to move the battery as far left as possible without disconnecting the power cables. Keep the battery connected during installation.
Yes, drilling is required. Step 4 instructs you to drill remaining mounting holes using the hitch as a template. The hitch is fastened to the bumper tubes with U-bolts first, then additional holes are drilled for 3/8" hardware installation.
Step 2 requires you to unbolt the fascia tabs from the vehicle body. These are factory-installed trim pieces on the bumper area that must be removed to access the bumper tubes for hitch installation. They are unbolted (not cut or trimmed) and can be set aside during installation.
The kit includes: 2 flat washers (3/8"), 4 U-bolts (3/8-16 x 3.44 x 5.00), 2 hex head cap screws (3/8-16 UNC, 1-1/2"), and 10 serrated flange nuts (3/8-16 UNC). All hardware is grade 8 zinc-plated steel.
All fasteners must be torqued to 45 lb.-ft. This applies to the U-bolts, hex head cap screws, and serrated flange nuts used to secure the hitch.
1. Clear the trunk well by removing the spare tire and moving the battery as far left as possible without disconnecting cables. 2. Unbolt the fascia tabs from the vehicle body. 3. Fasten the hitch to the bumper tubes using the U-bolts. 4. Drill the remaining mounting holes using the hitch as a template, then install 3/8" hardware through the drilled holes. 5. Torque all fasteners to 45 lb.-ft.
All non-trailer loads applied to the hitch must be supported by auxiliary stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty. This applies to any cargo or equipment that is not a trailer.
