However you define adventure -- whether it's climbing onto the back of a mountain bike, hunting from the top of a tree stand or camping with the family a long way from nowhere -- CURT class 1 hitches provide a light-duty towing receiver to help you Bring It. Each is made to fit a specific vehicle, providing easier installation, a better fit and optimal towing capacity. Custom class 1 trailer hitches are available for a variety of smaller vehicle types, including the compact car, crossover, minivan and small SUV. This particular class 1 hitch is designed to be a custom hitch for certain years of the Lexus GS300, GS350, GS430, IS250 and IS350 (to verify vehicle compatibility, see the CURT application guide at curtmfg.com). Tested in accordance with SAE J684, it offers a weight carrying capacity of 2,000 lbs. GTW and 200 lbs. TW. It is equipped with 1-1/4" receiver tube opening to accept a ball mount shank or other hitch mount. This class 1 hitch also comes with all necessary mounting hardware. With its lightweight design and smaller receiver tube size, a class 1 hitch is especially useful for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted bike rack or cargo carrier. They can also typically be used to tow small trailers such as a utility trailer, kayak trailer or teardrop camper (never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component; i.e. the vehicle, hitch, trailer, etc). Though CURT class 1 trailer hitches are only intended for light-duty towing, we apply the same principles of quality as we do to the rest of our rear mount hitches. Each class 1 hitch is made with hands-on engineering, high-strength steel and precise welding. We use a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat, inside and out, and durable black powder coat to provide a lasting defense against rust, chips and UV rays.
If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Lexus IS F, IS200t, IS250, IS300 and IS350 (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. You have a picture in mind of your next destination -- maybe it's the boat landing at your favorite fishing spot, maybe it's a campsite that overlooks one of nature's masterpieces, or maybe it's the next big jobsite. However, turning that picture into a reality takes more than just daydreaming. It takes a solid connection and the right amount of power. CURT custom wiring is made with some of the most sophisticated technology in the industry and is designed to install with ease, giving you a long-lasting electrical connection for your towing hitch setup.

The manual does not provide legible specifications for hitch weight or gross load capacity. Contact Curt Manufacturing technical support at 1-877-287-8634 for these values.
Yes. Curt part 11372 is designed for Lexus IS250, IS350, GS350, and GS430 models. The manual also lists part number 29134 as an alternative part number for the same hitch.
The hitch is designed for use with ballmount #55001 or #45001. These are sold separately and must be purchased to complete the towing system.
You will need: 8mm and 17mm sockets, a 12-inch extension, a ratchet, a torque wrench, and tin snips. The torque wrench is essential because M12 fasteners must be torqued to 79 ft-lbs.
No. The installation notes explicitly state that no drilling is required. The hitch uses existing frame rail fasteners and weld nuts.
Yes. The heat shields must be trimmed to clear the hitch side plates. The manual indicates a 3.5-inch area to trim on each heat shield. Trim as needed if the shields interfere with the hitch side plates. On the GS350, you must also bend the lower rear edge of the heat shields away from the side plates after reinstallation.
Yes. The exhaust must be lowered as part of the installation process. You will remove the two rearmost rubber isolators from the hanger bracket on each muffler to allow the exhaust to hang. The exhaust is then raised back into position after the hitch is installed.
1. Lower the exhaust by removing the two rearmost rubber isolators from each muffler hanger bracket. 2. Remove the six hex flange bolts securing the exhaust hanger brackets and save them. 3. Remove the four nuts securing each heat shield and remove the shields. Trim them as needed. 4. Reinstall the heat shields without the nuts. 5. Raise the hitch into position against the frame rails and reinstall the exhaust hanger brackets using the six bolts from step 2 (the hitch is sandwiched between the frame rails and brackets). 6. Torque all M12 hardware to 79 ft-lbs. 7. Raise the exhaust and reinstall the four rubber isolators.
All M12 hardware must be torqued to 79 ft-lbs. This includes the hex flange bolts that secure the exhaust hanger brackets and the fasteners that attach the hitch to the frame rails.
Yes. The six hex flange bolts that secure the exhaust hanger brackets are removed in step 2 and saved for reuse in step 5. These same bolts are reinstalled to sandwich the hitch between the frame rails and the exhaust hanger brackets.
The four nuts securing each heat shield are removed in step 3. The heat shields are then reinstalled in step 4 without the nuts. The manual does not specify whether the nuts are reused or discarded, so contact Curt Manufacturing technical support at 1-877-287-8634 for clarification.
You must not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. The manual states this as a critical warning. For specific capacity information for your Lexus model, consult your vehicle owner's manual or contact your Lexus dealer.
Non-trailer loads can be applied to the hitch only if they are supported by auxiliary stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty. Do not rely on the hitch alone to support loads other than a trailer.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. The manual does not specify an exact interval, so check before each towing use and at least monthly if the hitch is installed but not in regular use.

Yes, Curt part 56142 is designed for Lexus IS 250 and Lexus IS 350 models. The T-Connector wiring harness integrates with the factory taillight connectors on both sides of the trunk.
The kit includes a T-Connector harness with yellow and green wire ends, a black converter box, a white ground wire with eyelet, double-sided tape, cable ties, a screw for grounding, and a 4-flat connector for use when needed. A separate CME-PCL-INS instruction sheet covers routing of the black power wire from the battery.
Open the trunk and remove: all trunk floor covers, the rear scuff panel (held by three plastic fasteners and cargo loops), and plastic fasteners holding the felt trunk liner in place on both sides. These items are reinstalled after installation.
On the driver's side, pull back the felt trunk liner to locate the factory taillight wiring harness connectors. Separate the connectors carefully without damaging the locking tabs. Insert the T-Connector end with the yellow wire between the separated connectors, ensuring both connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Repeat this process on the passenger side using the T-Connector end with the green wire.
Locate a flat spot on the inside body panel of the vehicle behind the felt trunk liner near the connector. Adhere the black converter box using the double-sided tape provided.
Not necessarily. First, locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle's frame. If no suitable point exists, drill a 3/32" hole and secure the eyelet of the white ground wire using the screw provided.
Route the T-Connector end with the green wire across to the passenger side behind the removed scuff panel. Use the cable ties provided to secure wires to an existing wiring harness. Route the 4-flat connector from under the felt trunk liner to the center of the vehicle and out of the trunk when in use. Roll up and store in an out-of-the-way location when not in use. Refer to the CME-PCL-INS instruction sheet for routing the black power wire from the battery to the converter.
Before drilling, verify that miscellaneous items hidden behind or under any surface will not be damaged. Drilling without checking can cause damage and/or personal injury.
When separating the factory taillight connectors, take care not to damage the locking tabs. The locking tabs must be in place when the T-Connector is fully inserted.
Yes, the Curt 56142 T-Connector is designed for Lexus IS 250 and IS 350 models.
Drilling is optional. A 3/32" hole is only needed if no suitable existing grounding point (screw with nut) is available in the vehicle's frame.
Basic hand tools for removing plastic fasteners and cargo loops, a screwdriver for the grounding screw, and optionally a drill with a 3/32" bit if a grounding hole is needed. Cable ties and double-sided tape are provided.

Locate the factory taillight connectors behind the felt trunk liner on each side. Separate them carefully without damaging the locking tabs. Insert the yellow-wire T-Connector end on the driver's side and the green-wire end on the passenger side between the separated connectors, ensuring full insertion with locking tabs in place.
