Whatever the next checkpoint is on your adventure -- whether it's getting your bike on the trail before sunrise or making it to the campground before dark -- CURT class 2 hitches let you Bring It with confidence. These receiver hitches are made to handle most light-duty towing applications and offer a custom fit for your vehicle. Typically used on full-size cars, crossovers, compact SUVs, minivans or even compact pickup trucks, a CURT class 2 trailer hitch complements the design of smaller vehicles. This particular class 2 hitch is made to be a custom hitch for certain years of the Chrysler Town & Country, Dodge Grand Caravan, Ram C/V and Volkswagen Routan (to verify vehicle compatibility, see application info). It offers a weight carrying capacity of 3,500 lbs. GTW and 350 lbs. TW. Class 2 trailer hitches can typically be used to tow a variety of lightweight trailers, such as a small utility trailer, small fishing boat trailer or popup camper (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component). They are also perfect for adding cargo space to your vehicle with a bike rack or cargo carrier. This class 2 hitch features a 1-1/4" receiver tube to accept a ball mount shank or other hitch-mounted accessory. For safety, it is tested in accordance with SAE J684. A custom trailer hitch design requires extra care, and as such, CURT class 2 hitches are engineered using real vehicles and hands-on research. We use high-strength steel, robotic welding and rigorous testing to produce hitches that are built to fit your lifestyle. To ensure that each hitch will be a reliable extension of your vehicle, we also finish our hitches in a co-curing of liquid A-coat and black powder coat, giving them long-lasting rust and wear resistance.
If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Chrysler Town and Country, Dodge Caliber, Durango and Grand Caravan and Jeep Patriot (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. You have a picture in mind of your next destination -- maybe it's the boat landing at your favorite fishing spot, maybe it's a campsite that overlooks one of nature's masterpieces, or maybe it's the next big jobsite. However, turning that picture into a reality takes more than just daydreaming. It takes a solid connection and the right amount of power. CURT custom wiring is made with some of the most sophisticated technology in the industry and is designed to install with ease, giving you a long-lasting electrical connection for your towing hitch setup.

Yes, if you own a Dodge Grand Caravan SXT, Chrysler Town and Country Touring (all STO & GO models), Volkswagen Routan S/SE/SEL, or Ram Cargo Van. This hitch is designed specifically for these models.
You will need: 3/8" drive ratchet, 18mm socket, 15mm socket, 13mm socket, torque wrench, screwdriver or punch, and utility knife. A torque wrench is essential because fasteners must be torqued to specific values (48 lb-ft for 10mm bolts, 83 lb-ft for 12mm bolts).
No. The hitch uses existing vehicle fasteners and existing weld nuts in the frame rail. No drilling is required.
You must lower the exhaust. Remove the bolt(s) holding the exhaust and muffler hanger(s) in step 1 to allow the exhaust to drop down out of the way. After hitch installation, raise the muffler and reinstall the exhaust bolts. Rotating the exhaust hanger bracket before tightening will add clearance between the side bracket and exhaust.
Torque all 10mm fasteners to 48 lb-ft and all 12mm fasteners to 83 lb-ft. Use a torque wrench to ensure proper tightness.
Do not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. The hitch itself has a gross load capacity, but you must follow your vehicle's limits, not the hitch's limits.
Non-trailer loads applied to this hitch must be supported by Curt 18050 stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty.
The Curt 12264 is designed for use with ball mount part number D-224. This hitch is a receiver hitch that accepts compatible ball mounts.
Yes, but you must ensure AC lines are not pinched between the hitch and frame rail during installation. In step 2, verify that AC lines (if present) are not compressed when raising the hitch into position against the vehicle frame.
No, you do not need to remove the bumper. However, you must leave one 12mm bolt on the passenger side of the vehicle frame toward the front that holds the bumper bracket to the vehicle frame. This bolt must remain in place to hold the bumper beam in position. Remove only the other bolts as instructed in step 1.
In step 1, locate and remove two 15mm bolts and three 18mm bolts from the vehicle frame. Leave the one 12mm bolt on the passenger side toward the front that holds the bumper bracket. Also remove the bolt(s) holding the exhaust and muffler hanger(s). All other fasteners remain in place.
The hitch uses existing vehicle hardware—specifically existing 10mm and 12mm bolts that are already in your vehicle's frame. The hitch mounts into existing weld nuts in the frame rail on both sides. No new fasteners are supplied; you reuse the vehicle's original bolts.
Raise the hitch into position against the bottom of the vehicle frame and align the holes in the hitch frame brackets with the holes in the vehicle frame. You may need a punch or screwdriver to help align the holes before inserting the bolts.
Fascia trimming may be required. The manual references a trim diagram and notes that trimming may be necessary, but specific trimming details are shown in the trim diagram section. A utility knife is listed as a required tool.
You will need 18mm, 15mm, and 13mm sockets, all 3/8" drive. The 18mm and 15mm sockets are used to remove vehicle bolts in step 1. The 13mm socket is listed in the tools required section.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. This ongoing inspection helps maintain the hitch's integrity and safety.
The CURT 56333 is a powered converter lead designed to integrate trailer wiring with your vehicle's existing taillight system. It connects to your vehicle's taillight wiring harness and battery to provide signal and power circuits for trailer lighting. The converter uses a 4-flat connector for the trailer side and includes a black converter box that mounts inside the vehicle near the taillight.
Yes, the CURT 56333 is designed for the Dodge Patriot. Installation involves removing two clips holding the taillights in place, carefully prying the taillight housing rearward, and connecting the custom wiring harness to the vehicle's taillight connectors. Take care not to break the locking tabs on the back of the housing.

Installation involves opening the tailgate, removing T-30 torx head screws holding the taillights in place, and carefully prying the taillight housing rearward. Take care not to break the locking tabs on the back.
Yes, the CURT 56333 is designed for the Dodge Durango. Installation is the same as for the Patriot and Caliber: remove two clips holding the taillights in place, carefully pry the taillight housing rearward, and connect the custom wiring harness to the vehicle's taillight connectors. Take care not to break the locking tabs on the back of the housing.
Yes, the CURT 56333 is designed for the Dodge Caliber. Installation involves removing two clips holding the taillights in place, carefully prying the taillight housing rearward, and connecting the custom wiring harness to the vehicle's taillight connectors. Take care not to break the locking tabs on the back of the housing.
Yes, the CURT 56333 is designed exclusively for 12-volt negative ground systems. The manual states: 'This converter system is to be used only on 12 volt negative ground systems.' If your vehicle uses a different electrical system configuration, this product is not compatible.
You will need: a ratchet, a panel trim removal tool, and a Torx bit (T-30). The T-30 bit is required only if you are installing on a Caravan, Grand Caravan, or Town & Country, which use T-30 torx head screws to hold the taillights in place. The Patriot, Caliber, and Durango use clips instead.
The kit includes: a custom wiring harness with yellow and green wire ends, a black converter box, a white ground wire with ring terminal, a provided screw for grounding, double-sided tape for mounting the converter box, cable ties for securing loose wires, a 4-flat dust cover, and a 10-amp fuse holder with fuse. The manual also references a CME-PCL-INS instruction sheet for battery routing details.
Yes, you must disconnect the negative battery terminal before beginning installation. This is Step 1 of the installation process and is required for safety when working with the vehicle's electrical system.
Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury. This is especially important when drilling the 3/32" pilot hole for the ground wire screw near the taillight connector. The manual warns: 'Check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface before drilling to avoid damage and / or personal injury.'
Locate the vehicle's taillight wiring harness connectors behind the taillight housing. Separate the connectors from the taillight housing, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. Insert the custom wiring harness end with the yellow wire between the separated connectors on the driver side. Make sure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Repeat this process on the passenger side using the harness end with the green wire.
Mount the black converter box on a flat spot inside the vehicle near the taillight using the provided double-sided tape. The area should be clean and flat to ensure the tape adheres properly. The converter box houses the electrical conversion circuitry and must be positioned to allow the power wire to route from the battery and the signal wires to connect to the taillight harness.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the taillight connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame. If no suitable point exists, drill a 3/32" pilot hole. The area should be free of rust, dirt, and paint. Secure the white ground wire using the ring terminal and the provided screw. Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface.
Route the black power wire from the vehicle battery to the converter as shown on the included CME-PCL-INS instruction sheet. Route the wire through any existing rubber grommet in the trunk area if applicable. When passing the power wire through sheet metal, use an existing grommet, add a grommet, or use silicone to protect the wire from sharp edges. Secure the power wire to the vehicle chassis using the provided cable ties. Avoid pinch points and hot or rotating components.
The power wire from the battery must be 12 GA (12 gauge) wire or larger. This wire carries the battery power to the converter and must be properly sized to handle the electrical load safely.
When not in use, roll up the 4-flat connector and store it in a convenient, out-of-the-way location. When in use, route the 4-flat to the center of the vehicle. Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties.
Install the fuse after all other installation steps are complete. The fuse holder comes with a 10-amp fuse maximum. Do not install the fuse until the power wire is fully routed, the converter is mounted, and all connections are made.
Drilling may be required for the ground wire connection. If a suitable grounding point (such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame) is not available, you will need to drill a 3/32" pilot hole. Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
The CURT 56333 has the following electrical ratings: Signal circuits (left and right turn) are rated at 3.0 amps per side. Tail and running light circuits are rated at 6.0 amps total. The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a 10-amp maximum fuse. Do not exceed the product rating or your tow vehicle's lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
The CURT 56333 uses the following wire colors: Yellow = Left turn signal, Green = Right turn signal, Red = Brake signal, Brown = Taillight (running light). The white ground wire connects to the vehicle frame. The black power wire connects to the positive battery terminal. The yellow and green harness ends connect to the driver and passenger side taillight connectors respectively.
The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a 10-amp maximum fuse. The manual states: 'The battery connection must be fuse-protected, 10-amp max. Exceeding the product rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.'
Yes, you must use a ring terminal for the battery connection. The manual explicitly states: 'Use ring terminal for battery connection.' The white ground wire also uses a ring terminal to attach to the vehicle body.
If using the converter as a powered module for a two-wire system, the red brake wire must be grounded. This is a specific configuration requirement for two-wire trailer systems and differs from standard four-wire installations.
Do not exceed the product rating or your tow vehicle's lamp load rating, whichever is lower. Exceeding the product rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating, and potential fire. The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a 10-amp maximum fuse. Additionally, when routing the power wire to the battery, avoid pinch points and hot or rotating components.
After installation, test for proper function by using a test light or by connecting a properly wired trailer. This will verify that all signal circuits (left turn, right turn, brake) and running lights are functioning correctly. Ensure all connections are secure and the converter box is properly mounted before testing.
After completing all installation steps: reinstall all items removed during installation, reconnect the negative battery terminal, and install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion. Test the system using a test light or properly wired trailer to ensure all functions work correctly.
Periodic inspection of all wires and connections should be performed to ensure there is no visible damage or loose connections. Check the battery connection, ground wire, power wire routing, and all connector terminals regularly. This preventive maintenance helps ensure safe and reliable operation of the trailer lighting system.
The CURT 56333 is designed for Dodge Patriot, Caliber, Durango, Caravan, Grand Caravan, and Town & Country models with 12-volt negative ground electrical systems. For other vehicles, consult the vehicle manufacturer or a fitment database.
The battery connection must use a 10-amp maximum fuse. Exceeding this rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating, and potential fire.
Use 12 GA (12 gauge) wire or larger for the battery power connection. Route it through existing grommets or add grommets to protect from sharp edges.
Perform periodic inspection of all wires and connections to ensure there is no visible damage or loose connections. Check the battery connection, ground wire, and all connector terminals regularly.
First, verify that the negative battery terminal has been reconnected after installation. Check that all wiring connections are fully inserted with locking tabs in place on both the driver and passenger side taillight connectors. Inspect all wires and connections for visible damage or loose connections. Verify that the 10-amp fuse is installed in the fuse holder and is not blown. Test the system using a test light or properly wired trailer. If the issue persists, check that the ground wire is securely attached to a clean, rust-free surface and that the battery power wire is properly connected to the positive battery terminal with a ring terminal.
If only one side is working, check that the wiring harness connectors are fully inserted on both the driver side (yellow wire) and passenger side (green wire) with locking tabs in place. Verify that the connectors were not damaged when separated from the taillight housing. Inspect the wires for visible damage or loose connections on the non-functioning side. Check that the ground wire is securely attached and that the battery power wire is properly connected. If the issue is specific to turn signals or brake lights, verify that the corresponding wire color (yellow for left turn, green for right turn, red for brake) is properly connected.
