You will need: flat head screwdriver, die grinder with carbide bit (or round file), drill, 17/32" drill bit, ratchet, 3/4" socket, 10" extension, and torque wrench.
The kit includes: 2 pieces of 1/2" fishwire, 4 bolts (1/2-13 UNC, 1-1/2", Grade 8, yellow zinc, part 10-10287), 4 square hole spacers (0.250 x 1.00 x 2.50", part CM-SP10), and 4 serrated flange nuts (1/2-13 UNC, Grade 8, yellow zinc, part 20-00062).
Yes. Step 1 requires lowering the exhaust for ease of installation. Remove the 5 rubber hangers to lower it. Use a spray lubricant or soapy water on the hanger rod and isolator to ease removal. The exhaust is reinstalled in Step 7 after the hitch is secured.
Yes. You must enlarge the existing frame rail holes using a 17/32" drill bit to allow 1/2-13 bolt threads to protrude through the frame rail. You must also remove plugs and modify holes using a die grinder with carbide bit (or round file) to allow insertion of 1/2-13 bolts and CM-SP10 spacers. See the Heat Shield Diagram for hole locations.
Fishwire is a technique to thread fasteners through frame rail holes when direct access is limited. Step 3 uses the standard fishwire technique to insert 1/2-13 carriage bolts and CM-SP10 spacers into hole A. Step 4 uses reverse pull fishwire technique for hole B. Refer to the Fishwire Technique and Reverse Pull Fishwire Technique diagrams in the manual for detailed instructions.
All 1/2-13 fasteners must be torqued to 110 lb-ft. This is done in Step 6 after the hitch is raised into position and secured with the hex flange nuts.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. This is a general maintenance requirement to maintain safe operation and warranty coverage.
