The 10 - 13 Ford Transit Connect Excluding electric models 1.25in. CURT Trailer Hitch + Ball Mount + Cover + Lock Kit by CURT HWA998 (Part #HWA998) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes, Curt part number 12076 is designed specifically for the Ford Transit Connect. It is a receiver hitch with a gross load capacity of 3,500 lbs trailer weight and 350 lbs tongue weight. The hitch is designed for use with ballmount D-55001 or 45501.
The Curt 12076 has a gross load capacity of 3,500 lbs trailer weight and 350 lbs tongue weight when used as a weight-carrying hitch. However, you must not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower.
The hitch includes 4 M12×1.75 hex cap screws (HHCS), class 10.9, zinc-plated (part 10-10386) and 4 conical toothed washers, 1/2" (part 30-00149). These fasteners attach the hitch to the existing weldnuts in the vehicle frame.
You will need: a socket wrench, a torque wrench, a 19mm socket, and a screwdriver. These tools are used to remove the wire fastener, position the hitch, and torque the fasteners to specification.
No, drilling is not required. The hitch uses existing weldnuts in the vehicle frame for attachment. The installation notes specifically state 'NO DRILLING REQUIRED'.
Yes. The manual instructs you to lower the spare tire to ease installation, and recommends removing it from the vehicle entirely during the installation process. The spare tire is re-installed in step 7 after the hitch is secured. Refer to your vehicle manual for spare tire removal procedures.
Yes. The rearmost exhaust hanger must be lowered by twisting it 90 degrees in the frame and lowering it through the slot in the frame. This is step 1 of the installation process. The exhaust hanger is re-installed after the hitch is secured in step 7.
1. Lower the rearmost exhaust hanger by twisting 90 degrees and lowering through the frame slot. 2. Lower and remove the spare tire. 3. Pry the wire fastener from the passenger side frame rail using a screwdriver. 4. Raise the passenger side mounting plate to the inside of the frame while sliding the hitch over the exhaust, then raise the driver side. 5. Loosely secure with M12-1.75 hex bolts and 1/2" washers through existing weldnuts. Reattach the wire fastener to the passenger side mounting plate. 6. Torque all fasteners to 79 lb-ft. 7. Re-install the exhaust hanger and spare tire.
All M12 fasteners must be torqued to 79 lb-ft. This is done in step 6 after the hitch is positioned and loosely secured.
Leave the fasteners loose initially. In step 5, you loosely secure the hitch with M12-1.75 hex bolts and 1/2" washers through the existing weldnuts. Only after the hitch is fully positioned and the exhaust hanger and spare tire are re-installed do you torque all fasteners to 79 lb-ft in step 6.
All non-trailer loads applied to the hitch must be supported by auxiliary stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty.
Before and while raising the hitch into position, ensure you do not pinch any wires or fuel lines between the hitch and the frame rails. This is a critical safety caution during step 4 of the installation.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. This helps maintain the integrity and safety of the hitch.
The Curt 12076 is designed for use with ballmount D-55001 or 45501.
The manual recommends removing the spare tire to ease installation. While it may be possible to lower it instead, the instructions specifically state 'to ease installation remove spare tire from vehicle.' Removing it is the recommended approach.
The wire fastener removed from the passenger side frame rail in step 3 is reattached to the passenger side mounting plate of the hitch in step 5, at the location shown in the diagram.

Socket wrench, torque wrench, 19mm socket, and screwdriver. The hitch includes all necessary fasteners: 4 M12×1.75 hex bolts and 4 conical toothed washers.
