However you define adventure -- whether it's climbing onto the back of a mountain bike, hunting from the top of a tree stand or camping with the family a long way from nowhere -- CURT class 1 hitches provide a light-duty towing receiver to help you Bring It. Each is made to fit a specific vehicle, providing easier installation, a better fit and optimal towing capacity. Custom class 1 trailer hitches are available for a variety of smaller vehicle types, including the compact car, crossover, minivan and small SUV. This particular class 1 hitch is designed to be a custom hitch for certain years of the Toyota Prius, Prius V and Prius Plug-In (to verify vehicle compatibility, see the CURT application guide at curtmfg.com). Tested in accordance with SAE J684, it offers a weight carrying capacity of 2,000 lbs. GTW and 200 lbs. TW. It is equipped with 1-1/4" receiver tube opening to accept a ball mount shank or other hitch mount. This class 1 hitch also comes with all necessary mounting hardware. With its lightweight design and smaller receiver tube size, a class 1 hitch is especially useful for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted bike rack or cargo carrier. They can also typically be used to tow small trailers such as a utility trailer, kayak trailer or teardrop camper (never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component; i.e. the vehicle, hitch, trailer, etc). Though CURT class 1 trailer hitches are only intended for light-duty towing, we apply the same principles of quality as we do to the rest of our rear mount hitches. Each class 1 hitch is made with hands-on engineering, high-strength steel and precise welding. We use a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat, inside and out, and durable black powder coat to provide a lasting defense against rust, chips and UV rays.
If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Toyota Prius V (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. You have a picture in mind of your next destination -- maybe it's the boat landing at your favorite fishing spot, maybe it's a campsite that overlooks one of nature's masterpieces, or maybe it's the next big jobsite. However, turning that picture into a reality takes more than just daydreaming. It takes a solid connection and the right amount of power. CURT custom wiring is made with some of the most sophisticated technology in the industry and is designed to install with ease, giving you a long-lasting electrical connection for your towing hitch setup.

The kit includes 4× M12×1.25×40mm hex head cap screws (part 10-10277) and 4× 1/2" conical toothed washers (part 30-00149). These bolts and washers are used to attach the hitch to the vehicle's frame weldnuts.
Yes. You must remove the existing bolts from the factory tow loop and return the tow loop and bolts to the owner. On standard Prius models, access the bolts through the tow loop cut-out in the underbody panel.
You must remove the existing bolts from the rearmost exhaust hanger to the lower exhaust and return them to the owner. For ease of installation, you may also remove the rubber isolator from the rearmost exhaust hanger. The lower exhaust itself does not need to be removed.
Two people may be required to ease installation. If you are hesitant to undertake this task on your own, contact an authorized CURT installer for additional assistance.

All 12mm fasteners must be torqued to 86 ft-lbs.
Yes, the Curt 56156 T-Connector harness is designed for the Toyota Prius V.
Open the hatch and remove: all trunk floor covers and foam trays, plastic cargo trays from both sides of the rear cargo area, the rear scuff panel (by removing three plastic fasteners and pulling up), and the plastic covers on both sides of the cargo area that cover the taillight wiring harness.
The taillight wiring harness connectors are located behind the plastic covers on both sides of the cargo area. After removing the plastic covers, you will find the connectors similar in design to those on the T-Connector harness.
Locate the vehicle's taillight wiring harness connectors behind the plastic covers. Separate the connectors carefully, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. On the passenger side, insert the T-Connector end with the green wire between the separated connectors. Make sure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Repeat on the driver side using the T-Connector end with the yellow wire.
The passenger side T-Connector end has a green wire, and the driver side T-Connector end has a yellow wire.
Not necessarily. First, locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle's frame. If no existing screw is available, you may drill a 3/32" hole and secure the eyelet of the white ground wire using the screw provided.
If an existing screw with nut is not available, drill a 3/32" hole for the ground wire eyelet.
Before drilling, verify that miscellaneous items hidden behind or under any surface will not be damaged. Drilling into hidden items can cause damage and/or personal injury.
Locate a flat spot on the inside body panel of the vehicle behind the felt trunk liner near the connector. Adhere the black converter box to this location using the double-sided tape provided.
Route the T-Connector end with the yellow wire across to the driver side behind the removed scuff panel. Use the cable ties provided to secure wires to an existing wiring harness.
Route the black power wire to the battery's positive terminal. Remove the battery's cover and remove the nut securing the red battery cable. Place the fuse holder's ring terminal over the stud and replace the nut. Install the 10 amp fuse provided in the fuse holder and close the fuse holder's cap.
A 10 amp fuse is provided with the Curt 56156 and should be installed in the fuse holder.
Route the 4-flat out from under the felt trunk liner and to the center of the vehicle and out of the trunk when in use. Roll up and store in an out of the way location when not in use.
Reinstall all items that were removed during installation, including trunk floor covers, foam trays, plastic cargo trays, rear scuff panel, and plastic covers over the taillight wiring harness.
The Curt 56156 includes: a T-Connector harness with green and yellow wire ends, a black converter box, a white ground wire with eyelet, a screw for the ground wire, double-sided tape for mounting the converter box, cable ties for securing wires, a fuse holder with a 10 amp fuse, and a fuse holder cap.
The manual does not explicitly require full battery disconnection. However, you must remove the battery cover and access the positive terminal to connect the power wire. It is recommended to consult the vehicle manufacturer's guidance or a professional installer regarding battery safety procedures.
The manual does not specify required tools. Based on the installation steps, you will likely need a screwdriver (for plastic fasteners and the ground wire screw), a wrench or socket (for the battery terminal nut), and possibly a drill with a 3/32" bit if an existing ground point is not available.
Yes, the Curt 56156 is designed for the Toyota Prius V.
Drilling is not required if an existing screw with nut is available for the ground wire. If not, you may drill a 3/32" hole. Always verify that no hidden items will be damaged before drilling.
The Curt 56156 uses a 10 amp fuse, which is included with the kit.
Remove all trunk floor covers, foam trays, plastic cargo trays from both sides, the rear scuff panel, and plastic covers over the taillight wiring harness.
The black converter box is adhered to the inside body panel behind the felt trunk liner using double-sided tape provided.
Remove the battery cover, disconnect the red battery cable nut, place the fuse holder's ring terminal over the stud, replace the nut, install the 10 amp fuse, and close the fuse holder cap.
