However you define adventure -- whether it's climbing onto the back of a mountain bike, hunting from the top of a tree stand or camping with the family a long way from nowhere -- CURT class 1 hitches provide a light-duty towing receiver to help you Bring It. Each is made to fit a specific vehicle, providing easier installation, a better fit and optimal towing capacity. Custom class 1 trailer hitches are available for a variety of smaller vehicle types, including the compact car, crossover, minivan and small SUV. This particular class 1 hitch is designed to be a custom hitch for certain years of the Chevy Camaro (to verify vehicle compatibility, see the CURT application guide at curtmfg.com). Tested in accordance with SAE J684, it offers a weight carrying capacity of 2,000 lbs. GTW and 200 lbs. TW. It is equipped with 1-1/4" receiver tube opening to accept a ball mount shank or other hitch mount. This class 1 hitch also comes with all necessary mounting hardware. With its lightweight design and smaller receiver tube size, a class 1 hitch is especially useful for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted bike rack or cargo carrier. They can also typically be used to tow small trailers such as a utility trailer, kayak trailer or teardrop camper (never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component; i.e. the vehicle, hitch, trailer, etc). Though CURT class 1 trailer hitches are only intended for light-duty towing, we apply the same principles of quality as we do to the rest of our rear mount hitches. Each class 1 hitch is made with hands-on engineering, high-strength steel and precise welding. We use a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat, inside and out, and durable black powder coat to provide a lasting defense against rust, chips and UV rays.
If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Chevy Camaro (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. You have a picture in mind of your next destination -- maybe it's the boat landing at your favorite fishing spot, maybe it's a campsite that overlooks one of nature's masterpieces, or maybe it's the next big jobsite. However, turning that picture into a reality takes more than just daydreaming. It takes a solid connection and the right amount of power. CURT custom wiring is made with some of the most sophisticated technology in the industry and is designed to install with ease, giving you a long-lasting electrical connection for your towing hitch setup.

Call 888-634-9494Yes, CURT part number 11222 is designed for 2011-Present Chevrolet Camaro Convertible models. However, this hitch will NOT fit if your vehicle has ground effects installed. If your Camaro has ground effects, you will need a different hitch model.
The manual specifies a minimum trailer weight of 2000 lbs and minimum tongue weight of 200 lbs for this weight-carrying hitch. However, you must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. Consult your vehicle's owner manual or the manufacturer's specifications for the maximum towing capacity of your specific Camaro model.
You will need: a screwdriver, a ratchet, a torque wrench, a 15mm socket, and a 3/4" socket. Safety glasses must be worn at all times during installation.
Yes. You must remove the plastic underbody cover by carefully removing 5 plastic retaining clips. After installation is complete, return the cover and clips to the vehicle owner. You will also need to remove 4 bolts that attach the support arms to the underbody structure; these bolts are retained and reused during hitch installation. If washers are present as spacers between the support arms and underbody structure, remove and return them to the vehicle owner.
No. The CURT 11222 installation requires no drilling.
Two people may be required to ease installation. If you are hesitant to undertake this task on your own, contact an authorized CURT installer for additional assistance. For technical support, call 877-287-8634.
1. Remove the plastic underbody cover by carefully removing 5 plastic retaining clips. 2. Remove the 4 bolts attaching support arms to the underbody structure; retain these bolts. 3. Place 4 3/8" washers between the support arm and underbody structure on both sides, aligned with the forward-most holes, and loosely secure using the existing M10 bolts. 4. Raise the hitch into position with the bottom horizontal flange sandwiched between the support arms and underbody structure; install the M10 bolts finger tight. 5. Push the hitch forward against the underbody structure and fishwire the carriage bolts and large spacer blocks through holes in the front face of the underbody structure; secure with 1/2" flange nuts. 6. Torque all 1/2" fasteners to 110 ft.-lbs and all M10 fasteners to 48 ft.-lbs.
Fishwire is a method of threading fasteners (in this case, carriage bolts and spacer blocks) through holes in the underbody structure. In Step 5, you push the hitch forward and thread the 1/2" fishwire carriage bolts and large spacer blocks through the holes in the front face of the underbody structure, then secure them with 1/2" flange nuts.
Torque all 1/2" fasteners to 110 ft.-lbs. Torque all M10 fasteners to 48 ft.-lbs. Use a torque wrench to ensure proper tightness.
The CURT 11222 includes: 2 carriage bolts (1/2"-13 UNC, 1-3/4", Grade 8, yellow zinc, part 10-10272); 2 serrated flange nuts (1/2"-13 UNC, Grade 8, yellow zinc, part 20-00062); 2 spacer blocks (0.250 x 3.00 x 4.00", part CM-SP28); 2 pieces of 1/2" fishwire (part 1_2 FISHWIRE); and 8 flat washers (3/8", yellow zinc, part 30-00186). The 4 existing M10 bolts from the vehicle are retained and reused.
Place 4 3/8" washers (2 on each side) between the support arm and the underbody structure. Align the washers with the forward-most holes and loosely secure them using the existing M10 bolts removed in Step 2. Use 4 washers total: 2 on the left side and 2 on the right side.
Finger tight means tightening the bolts by hand only, without using tools, until they are snug but not fully torqued. In Step 4, after installing the M10 bolts, leave them finger tight. Do not apply full torque until Step 6, after all fasteners are in place.
The CURT 11222 is designed for use with the CURT ball mount D-20/45520. Euro mount options are also available: part 45561 (1 7/8" ball) and part 45562 (2" ball). Consult CURT's website at www.curtmfg.com or contact technical support at 877-287-8634 for additional compatibility information.
All non-trailer (wheel-less) loads applied to this hitch must be supported by CURT 18050 stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty. For more information about stabilizing straps, see the CURT catalog or visit www.curtmfg.com.
After installation, periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. This ongoing inspection helps maintain the safety and integrity of the hitch.

CURT part 56197 is designed for Chevrolet Camaro without LED taillights. The manual does not specify which model years or trim levels are compatible. Consult the Wiring Location Guide or contact CURT technical support at 1-877-287-8634 to confirm fitment for your specific Camaro.
No. The CURT 56197 is specifically designed for Chevrolet Camaro without LED taillights. If your Camaro has LED taillights, this product is not compatible.
Yes. Step 2 of the installation requires you to locate the vehicle's battery and disconnect the negative battery terminal before proceeding with any wiring work.
You must remove the trunk floor coverings, the plastic covers on top of the rear taillights (three plastic fasteners on each side), and the rear scuff panel (three plastic wing nuts on each side). You will also need to pull back the felt trunk liner to access the rubber grommet leading to the back of the taillights.
Remove the rubber grommet that the taillight wire harness passes through. Make a cut in the grommet from the center outwards that is large enough to pass the T-Connector's housings through. After routing the T-Connector, re-seat the rubber grommet.
Route the T-Connector end with the yellow wire to the driver's side behind the taillight. Route the T-Connector end with the green wire to the passenger's side behind the removed scuff panel.
Locate the taillight wiring harness connectors. Separate the connectors carefully, taking care not to damage the alignment tabs. Insert the T-Connector end (yellow for driver's side, green for passenger's side) between the separated housings. Ensure the housings are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
The kit includes cable ties to secure wires to the existing wiring harness, a ring terminal, and a screw for the ground wire. The screw is used to secure the white ground wire at a suitable grounding point near the connector.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle's frame. If no suitable point exists, drill a 3/32" pilot hole. Clean the ground area of rust and dirt. Secure the white ground wire using the ring terminal and screw provided.
Drill a 3/32" pilot hole if a suitable existing grounding point is not available. Before drilling, verify that miscellaneous items hidden behind or under any surface will not be damaged.
Drilling may be required. If a suitable existing grounding point (such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle's frame) is available, no drilling is needed. If not, you must drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided ground screw. Before drilling, verify that miscellaneous items hidden behind or under any surface will not be damaged.
The manual does not specify a tow rating for the CURT 56197. However, it warns that exceeding the vehicle's tow rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire. You must not exceed the tow vehicle's lamp load rating. Check your vehicle owner's manual or contact the vehicle manufacturer for your specific tow rating and lamp load rating.
The manual does not specify the lamp load rating. You must not exceed the tow vehicle's lamp load rating, as exceeding it can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire. Check your vehicle owner's manual or contact the vehicle manufacturer for your specific lamp load rating.
After installation, reinstall all items removed during the install, including trunk floor coverings, plastic covers on the taillights, and the rear scuff panel. Route the 4-flat connector out from under the felt trunk liner and to the center of the vehicle when in use. Roll up and store the connector in an out-of-the-way location when not in use.
