However you define adventure -- whether it's climbing onto the back of a mountain bike, hunting from the top of a tree stand or camping with the family a long way from nowhere -- CURT class 1 hitches provide a light-duty towing receiver to help you Bring It. Each is made to fit a specific vehicle, providing easier installation, a better fit and optimal towing capacity. Custom class 1 trailer hitches are available for a variety of smaller vehicle types, including the compact car, crossover, minivan and small SUV. This particular class 1 hitch is designed to be a custom hitch for certain years of the Mazda 2 (to verify vehicle compatibility, see the CURT application guide at curtmfg.com). Tested in accordance with SAE J684, it offers a weight carrying capacity of 1,500 lbs. GTW and 150 lbs. TW. It is equipped with 1-1/4" receiver tube opening to accept a ball mount shank or other hitch mount. This class 1 hitch also comes with all necessary mounting hardware. With its lightweight design and smaller receiver tube size, a class 1 hitch is especially useful for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted bike rack or cargo carrier. They can also typically be used to tow small trailers such as a utility trailer, kayak trailer or teardrop camper (never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component; i.e. the vehicle, hitch, trailer, etc). Though CURT class 1 trailer hitches are only intended for light-duty towing, we apply the same principles of quality as we do to the rest of our rear mount hitches. Each class 1 hitch is made with hands-on engineering, high-strength steel and precise welding. We use a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat, inside and out, and durable black powder coat to provide a lasting defense against rust, chips and UV rays.
If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Mazda 2 hatchback, Mazda 5 and Mazda CX9 (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. You have a picture in mind of your next destination -- maybe it's the boat landing at your favorite fishing spot, maybe it's a campsite that overlooks one of nature's masterpieces, or maybe it's the next big jobsite. However, turning that picture into a reality takes more than just daydreaming. It takes a solid connection and the right amount of power. CURT custom wiring is made with some of the most sophisticated technology in the industry and is designed to install with ease, giving you a long-lasting electrical connection for your towing hitch setup.

CURT offers a variety of high-quality trailer hitches and accessories for select vehicle models. Find the perfect fit for your towing needs at TowUniverse.

Yes, CURT 11073 is designed for 2011-Current Mazda 2 Hatchback models. Verify your vehicle year and body style match before purchasing.
The CURT 11073 is rated for a maximum of 1,500 lbs trailer weight and 150 lbs tongue weight when used as a weight-carrying hitch. You must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower than the hitch rating.
Non-trailer loads (wheel-less loads) can be applied to this hitch only if they are supported by CURT 18050 stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads voids the product warranty.
The CURT 11073 is designed for use with ball mount #D-21 / 45521. Euro mount options are also available: #45571 (1-7/8" ball) and #45572 (2" ball).
You will need: ratchet, torque wrench, 9" extension, 10mm socket, and 11/16" socket.
The kit includes: 4× 7/16-14 UNC Grade 8 carriage bolts (1-1/4"), 4× 7/16-14 UNC Grade 8 flange nuts, 1× 1/4-20 UNC Grade 8 carriage bolt (1"), 1× 1/4-20 UNC Grade 8 flange nut, 4× 0.250 × 1.00 × 2.00" square hole spacers (CM-SP7), and 2× 7/16" fishwire.
No, drilling is not required. The CURT 11073 uses existing frame rail holes and does not require any drilling.
Yes, the exhaust must be lowered before installation. This is done by removing 2 rubber isolators from the hangers attached to the frame (Step 2). The exhaust is raised back into position after the hitch is secured (Step 8).
Yes, the vapor canister must be temporarily removed. In Step 1, remove the bolt securing the vapor canister to the driver side frame rail and return the bolt to the owner. The vapor canister is then reattached to the hitch in Step 6 using a 1/4-20 × 1" carriage bolt and 1/4-20 flange nut.
Two people may be required to ease installation. If you are hesitant to undertake this task on your own, contact an authorized CURT installer for additional assistance.
Fishwire is used to guide the carriage bolts and spacers through the frame rails. In Step 3, fishwire the 7/16-14 × 1-1/4" carriage bolts and SP7 spacers through the end of the frame rails on both sides, leaving fishwires attached to the passenger side bolts. The fishwires help prevent loss of bolts and spacers inside the frame rail when raising the hitch into position.
Follow these steps in order: (1) Remove vapor canister bolt from driver side frame rail. (2) Lower exhaust by removing 2 rubber isolators. (3) Fishwire 7/16-14 × 1-1/4" carriage bolts and SP7 spacers through frame rails, both sides. (4) Raise passenger side plate over exhaust and past hanger; raise driver side plate past vapor canister; secure both plates with 7/16-14 flange nuts. (5) Place 1/4-20 × 1" carriage bolt through square hole in driver side plate. (6) Attach vapor canister to carriage bolt and secure with 1/4-20 flange nut. (7) Torque all 7/16" hardware to 70 ft-lbs and all 1/4" hardware to 12 ft-lbs. (8) Raise exhaust back into position.
Raise the passenger side plate over the exhaust and slide it past the exhaust hanger. Raise the driver side plate past the vapor canister. You may need to push the bolts part way back into the frame to get the plates into position. You can use the fishwires to guide the hitch during mounting to prevent loss of bolts and spacers inside the frame rail.
Torque all 7/16" hardware to 70 ft-lbs. Torque all 1/4" hardware to 12 ft-lbs.
All 7/16" hardware must be torqued to 70 ft-lbs. This applies to the 7/16-14 UNC carriage bolts and 7/16-14 UNC flange nuts that secure the hitch plates to the frame rails.
All 1/4" hardware must be torqued to 12 ft-lbs. This applies to the 1/4-20 UNC carriage bolt and 1/4-20 UNC flange nut that secure the vapor canister to the driver side plate.
Two sizes of carriage bolts are used: 7/16-14 × 1-1/4" (4 bolts, part 10-10281) for the main hitch plate attachment, and 1/4-20 × 1" (1 bolt, part 10-10397) for the vapor canister attachment.
Four square hole spacers (CM-SP7) are included, each measuring 0.250 × 1.00 × 2.00". These spacers are fishwired through the frame rails along with the 7/16-14 × 1-1/4" carriage bolts in Step 3.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times while installing this product. Before beginning installation, read all instructions thoroughly. Using proper tools will greatly improve the quality of the install and reduce the time required.
Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. Although the CURT 11073 is rated for 1,500 lbs trailer weight and 150 lbs tongue weight, your vehicle's manufacturer may specify a lower limit. Always follow the vehicle manufacturer's recommendation.
After installation is complete, periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. This maintenance is important for safe operation.
The manual states to periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound, but does not specify an exact interval. Regular inspection before towing is recommended.

The Curt 56016 is designed for Mazda 2, Mazda 5, and Mazda CX-9 models. Confirm your vehicle model matches one of these applications before purchasing.
The harness is rated for Signal Circuits at 3.0 amps per side and Tail/Running Circuits at 6.0 amps total. Do not exceed these ratings or your vehicle's tow lamp load rating, whichever is lower, as exceeding the rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
You will need a ratchet, 10mm socket, Phillips screwdriver, and panel trim removal tool. A 3/32" drill bit is also required if you need to drill a pilot hole for the grounding screw.
The harness includes a screw and ring terminal for grounding, double-sided tape for the converter box, cable ties for securing loose wires, and a 4-flat dust cover. A CME-PCL-INS sheet with battery routing information is also included.
The manual does not specify whether the battery must be disconnected before installation. Contact the vehicle manufacturer or Curt Manufacturing for guidance on this safety step.
Open the vehicle tailgate and remove all trunk floor coverings and storage trays. Then remove the scuff panel by pulling out on the bottom and then up, taking care not to damage the alignment tabs on the back.
Locate the vehicle taillight wiring harness connectors behind the trim panel. Separate the connectors from the taillight housing carefully to avoid damaging the locking tabs. Insert the custom wiring harness end with the yellow wire between the separated connectors, ensuring the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
Locate a flat spot inside the vehicle near the taillight and adhere the black converter box using the provided double-sided tape.
When not in use, roll up the 4-flat connector and store it in a convenient, out-of-the-way location inside the trunk. Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties.
Drilling may be required. You must locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame. If no suitable existing point is available, you will need to drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided grounding screw. Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
Drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided grounding screw. The area should be free of rust, dirt and paint before securing the white ground wire using the ring terminal.
The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a 10-amp maximum fuse. Exceeding this rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
The harness has a yellow wire end for the driver side taillight connection, a green wire end for the passenger side taillight connection, a white wire for grounding, and a black power wire that routes from the vehicle battery. Refer to the included CME-PCL-INS sheet for detailed battery power wire routing.
Once installed, test for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer. All steps must be followed to ensure the wiring harness functions properly.
Reinstall all items removed during installation, including trunk floor coverings, storage trays, scuff panel, and rear trim panels. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion.
The Curt 56016 fits Mazda 2, Mazda 5, and Mazda CX-9.
Ratchet, 10mm socket, Phillips screwdriver, panel trim removal tool, and a 3/32" drill bit if drilling is required.
10-amp maximum fuse for the battery connection. Do not exceed this rating or the product's amperage limits (3.0 amps per signal side, 6.0 amps total for tail/running circuits) to avoid warranty loss, overheating and fire.
