Yes, CURT part number 12154 is designed for 2018-present Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross CUV models. The hitch is a Class II weight-carrying receiver hitch with a maximum trailer weight capacity of 3500 lbs and tongue weight capacity of 350 lbs.
The CURT 12154 is rated for a maximum trailer weight of 3500 lbs and a tongue weight of 350 lbs when used as a weight-carrying hitch. You must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
The CURT 12154 is designed for use with ball mount #45521. Euro mount options available are #45571 (1 7/8" ball) and #45572 (2" ball).
Required tools are: ratchet, torque wrench, 6" extension, 3/4" socket, 14mm socket, 17mm socket, and safety glasses. Using proper tools will greatly improve the quality of the install and reduce installation time.
No, drilling is not required. The CURT 12154 installation requires no drilling.
No, trimming is not required. The installation requires no trimming.
Yes, you must temporarily lower the exhaust by removing three rubber hangers: two by the muffler and one just forward of the muffler. Be sure to support the exhaust when removing the rubber hangers. The exhaust is reinstalled after the hitch is mounted.
If a tow loop is present on the passenger side of the vehicle frame, it must be removed. Return the tow loop and bolts to the vehicle owner. If no tow loop is present, this step is not necessary.
Two people may be required to ease installation. If you are hesitant to undertake this task on your own, contact an authorized CURT installer for additional assistance.
Torque all 10mm fasteners to 48 lb-ft and all 1/2" fasteners to 110 lb-ft. After installation, periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound.
The parts list includes: 4 bolts (1/2-13 UNC, 4-1/2", Grade 8), 4 serrated flange nuts (1/2-13 UNC, Grade 8), 2 hex cap screws (M10x1.25, 25mm, Class 10.9), 2 washers (3/8" S-con), 2 pieces of 7/16" fishwire, 2 square hole spacers (.250 x 1.00 x 2.50"), 2 bolts (7/16-14 UNC, 1-1/4", Grade 8), 2 serrated flange nuts (7/16-14 UNC, Grade 8), and 2 spacers (part 12154-SP).
1. Lower the exhaust by removing three rubber hangers (support the exhaust). 2. Remove the tow loop on the passenger side if present. 3. Place two bolts through each 12154-SP spacer plate and install through the frame. 4. Raise the hitch into position and slide bolts through; loosely install hex flange nuts and hex bolts with conical washers (teeth against hitch mounting plate). 5. Torque all 10mm fasteners to 48 lb-ft and all 1/2" fasteners to 110 lb-ft. 6. Reinstall the canister fastener if removed and rubber exhaust hangers.
Fasteners should be loosely installed initially. In step 4, loosely install the supplied hex flange nuts and hex bolts with conical washers. All fasteners are then torqued to their final specifications in step 5: 10mm fasteners to 48 lb-ft and 1/2" fasteners to 110 lb-ft.
If no weld nuts are present in the frame, the supplied short carriage bolts and spacers will need to be fishwired instead and secured with the supplied flange nuts. Fishwire (7/16" fishwire is included) is used to secure the fasteners in this case.
Temporary removal of the canister fastener on the driver side frame rail will aid access but is not required. If you choose to remove it, you must reinstall it after the hitch is mounted.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times while installing this product. When lowering the exhaust, be sure to support it when removing the rubber hangers to prevent it from falling.
All non-trailer (wheel-less) loads applied to this hitch must be supported by 18050 stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty. See the CURT catalog or visit www.curtmfg.com for further information on stabilizing straps.
After installation, periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. This maintenance is important for safe operation.
