A CURT trailer hitch is the key to pursuing your passions, whether you're taking the family boat out for an afternoon on the water or packing up the mountain bikes for a day on the trails. This CURT class 2 hitch is perfect for towing a small trailer, such as a boat trailer, lightweight camper or utility trailer. It can also be used to mount a hitch cargo carrier or bike rack (never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Like all CURT custom hitches, this class 2 trailer hitch is made for a vehicle-specific fit. It is engineered to seamlessly integrate with select years of the Ford Taurus, Lincoln Continental and Mercury Sable (see application info to verify fitment). It is rated for 3,500 pounds gross trailer weight and 300 pounds tongue weight. It is also equipped with 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" hitch receiver to accept the included ball mount. The ball mount that comes with this hitch kit has a 3/4" trailer ball hole and can be positioned in the drop or rise orientation for level towing with your specific trailer (trailer ball not included). Like all CURT custom receiver hitches, this class 2 hitch is designed, manufactured, finished and tested with the utmost care. It is engineered for a precise fit, easy installation, maximum towing strength and an integrated look on the vehicle. It is also tested to SAE J684 protocols for safety. This class 2 trailer hitch is finished with our industry-leading dual-coat process for unparalleled rust, chip and UV resistance. It is descaled for a smooth surface, submersed in liquid A-coat for rust prevention inside and out, covered with a highly durable powder coat, and finally co-cured for a dependable shield against the elements. This class 2 hitch comes with a ball mount, hitch pin and mounting hardware for a complete installation.
Trailer hitch weight ratings are limited to vehicle manufacturer's stated capacities

The manual specifies a gross load capacity when used as a weight-carrying hitch, but the trailer weight and tongue weight values are not filled in on this copy of the manual. Contact Curt Manufacturing technical support at 1-800-798-0813 for the exact capacity for your vehicle.
Non-trailer loads can be carried, but they must be supported by auxiliary stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty.
Do not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. Even if this hitch has a higher capacity rating, you must follow your vehicle's limits.
The kit includes: 2 handle nuts (1/2-13), 2 hex bolts (1/2-13 x 1 3/4), 2 conical toothed washers (1/2"), 2 square hole spacers (CM-SP12, .250 x 1.00 x 2.00"), 2 conical toothed washers (7/16"), and 2 hex bolts (M10 - 1.5 x 45, 10.9 mm).
Yes, if your vehicle is equipped with a carbon canister, it must be lowered during installation. The canister cannot be completely removed. You will need to disconnect electrical connectors and hoses, remove two bolts from the spare tire well and two nuts near the center of the canister, then lower it. After hitch installation, the canister is slid back into position and the hose is routed through an access hole in the hitch mounting plate.
Some vehicles are not equipped with a carbon canister. If yours is not, you can skip the steps that involve disconnecting and lowering the canister (steps 2–3 and 7 of the installation process).
The manual does not specify whether the battery must be disconnected. However, because the installation involves disconnecting electrical connectors from the carbon canister, it is recommended to consult the vehicle's service manual or contact Curt technical support at 1-800-798-0813 for guidance.
Yes, the exhaust must be lowered during installation. Step 2 requires you to detach the rubber isolator from the exhaust hanger bracket. After hitch installation, the rubber isolator is reattached to the exhaust hanger bracket.
Remove any tie downs that are present and return them to the vehicle owner.
The inboard E.A. bolts are factory fasteners located on the frame end caps. During installation, these bolts must be removed and discarded. The hitch is then attached to the inboard side of the E.A. units using the M10 bolts provided in the kit.
Drilling may be required on some models. The manual notes that drilling is needed on some vehicles but does not specify which models require it or provide drilling locations. Consult the vehicle-specific installation notes or contact Curt technical support at 1-800-798-0813 to determine if drilling is necessary for your vehicle.
Position the hitch on the vehicle and attach it to the inboard side of the E.A. units using the M10 bolts provided. Insert a support block and handle nut through each frame access slot, then fasten the hitch mounting arms to the vehicle frame using 1/2" hex bolts and conical washers. Drill mounting holes if needed.
Torque all M10 fasteners to 45 lb-ft.
Torque all 1/2" fasteners to 110 lb-ft.
After installation, periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. This maintenance is important for safe operation.

No specific interval is provided; consult the vehicle's service manual or contact Curt technical support at 1-800-798-0813 for recommended maintenance intervals.
