When we came to the limits of towing capacity, we wanted to know what else was out there. What could we discover off the beaten path? So, we kept going. CURT class 5 Xtra Duty hitches begin a class of their own, beyond class 4 and beyond anything the standards dictate. They are designed for the hard road where only full-size pickup trucks, vans and SUVs dare to tread. They are capable of pulling almost any heavy-duty trailer, including toy haulers, dump trailers, logging trailers, small yacht trailers and more (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component). This particular Xtra Duty class 5 trailer hitch offers a gross trailer weight capacity of 16,000 lbs. and an extra-high tongue weight capacity of 2,400 lbs. It features a 2" x 2" receiver tube opening to accept a ball mount or hitch-mounted accessory, such as a cargo carrier or winch mount. It is designed to be a custom-fit trailer hitch for certain years of the Chevy Silverado 1500, 1500 Classic, 1500 HD, 1500 HD Classic or 2500 and GMC Sierra 1500, 1500 Classic, 1500 HD, 1500 HD Classic or 2500 (to verify compatibility with your vehicle, see application info). For a little extra towing power and stability, this class 5 hitch can also be used in combination with a weight distributing hitch. It is rated for 17,000 lbs. WD and 2,400 lbs. WDTW. In our drive to create a more powerful hitch, CURT has not neglected the finer details. Our class 5 trailer hitches are welded with precision and go through multiple stages of cleaning to create a smooth surface that is ready to accept our co-cured finish. To protect them from corrosion, chipping and UV damage, these hitches are immersed in a liquid A-coat and then finished in a high-quality black carbide powder coat. They come with grade-8 mounting hardware for solid installation.
Trailer hitch weight ratings are limited to vehicle manufacturer's stated capacities

Yes, Curt part number 15323 is designed for Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500. Installation procedures differ by model year: 2014 and newer non-hitch equipped vehicles require removal of a factory light duty bumper mount hitch before installation, while prior-year models do not.
No, drilling is not required. The hitch uses existing factory holes and weldnuts on the frame rails.
You will need: ratchet, torque wrench, 12" extension, 3/4" wrench, 3/4" socket, and 22mm socket.
Yes, you must temporarily lower the spare tire for ease of installation. It is reinstalled after the hitch is secured in Step 7.
Torque all 1/2" hardware to 110 ft-lbs. Torque all 14mm hardware to 103 ft-lbs. For 2014 and newer models, also torque the M12 nuts (from the factory light duty bumper mount removal) to 52 ft-lbs.
The manual specifies gross load capacity for both weight carrying and weight distribution use, but the specific values are not filled in on this copy. Contact Curt Manufacturing technical support at 1-877-287-8634 for capacity information. Do not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
Only if your vehicle is non-hitch equipped. If your 2014 or newer Silverado 1500 has a factory light duty bumper mount hitch, you must remove it before installing the Curt 15323. The removal procedure is detailed in Step 2. If your vehicle does not have a factory hitch, proceed directly to Step 3.
The removal has five parts: (a) Remove two M8 bolts connecting the center hitch tabs to the bumper and return to owner. (b) Remove two M14 x 80mm bolts and two M14 nuts securing the hitch to the frame rails and return to owner. (c) Remove and retain two M14 x 45mm bolts securing the rear of the hitch to the weldnuts. (d) Remove and retain four M12 nuts and two M12 x 40mm stud plates securing the hitch to the side of the frame rails. (e) Remove the hitch and return to owner. (f) Reinstall the stud plates and nuts from step (d) and torque the M12 nuts to 52 ft-lbs.
Raise the hitch into position by aligning the rearmost holes in the hitch with the holes where the bumper bracket bolts were removed. Secure the hitch using the existing 14mm bumper bracket bolts. This is the same location used by the factory bumper bracket.
In the forward most hole on each side of the frame and hitch, install a 1/2"-13 x 1 3/4" carriage bolt (part 10-10272) and a .250 x 1.50 x 2.00" square hole spacer (CM-SP1). Secure with a 1/2"-13 hex flange nut (part 20-00062). Torque to 110 ft-lbs.
In the center hole on each side of the frame and hitch, install a 1/2"-13 x 1 3/4" carriage bolt (part 10-10272) and a .250 x 1.50 x 3.00" square hole spacer (CM-SP4). Secure with a 1/2"-13 hex flange nut (part 20-00062). Torque to 110 ft-lbs.
The kit includes: four 1/2"-13 UNC x 1 3/4" grade 8 carriage bolts (part 10-10272), four 1/2"-13 UNC grade 8 serrated flange nuts (part 20-00062), two .250 x 1.50 x 2.00" square hole spacers (CM-SP1), and two .250 x 1.50 x 3.00" square hole spacers (CM-SP4).
Professional installation takes approximately 60 minutes. DIY installation for a novice takes approximately 62 minutes.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. This helps maintain safe operation and extends the life of the hitch.
The hitch weight is 30 lbs.
