The adapter is designed for vehicles that have an Electric Junction Box located in the interior of the vehicle underneath the dashboard, left of the steering column, just above the carpet. The manual does not specify which vehicle makes, models, or years are compatible. Contact the manufacturer or your vehicle dealer to confirm your vehicle has this junction box before purchasing.
The adapter connects an electric trailer brake control unit to your vehicle's electrical system. It plugs into the mating connection point in the vehicle's Electric Junction Box to supply power and signals for controlling electric trailer brakes.
The Electric Junction Box is located in the interior of the vehicle underneath the dashboard, left of the steering column, just above the carpet. Remove the cover to access the mating connection point for electric trailer brakes, which is located in the top row, second from the left.
Before plugging the adapter into the vehicle, plug the brake control adapter into the mating receptacle on the backside of the brake control unit itself. This must be done before attaching the adapter to the vehicle connector.

No. All vehicles come with a location for installation of an Electric Brake Control Adapter, but not all vehicles have complete connections to the battery and/or wiring to the rear of the vehicle for electric trailer brakes. If your vehicle has power supplied for the electric trailer brakes and appropriate wiring to the rear, proceed directly to step 4. If not, you will need an Electric Brake Control Wiring Kit.
You will need an Electric Brake Control Wiring Kit. This kit includes wires to connect the vehicle's brake control feed wire (blue) and battery (+) power supply wire (red) from the Electrical Center Box under the hood to the adapter and rear of the vehicle. An in-line fuse or circuit breaker is also required for this installation.
The Electrical Center Box is located under the hood on the driver's side of the vehicle. You must open the hood and remove the box lid and cover to access the brake control feed wire (blue) and battery (+) supply wire (red).
