When we came to the limits of towing capacity, we wanted to know what else was out there. What could we discover off the beaten path? So, we kept going. CURT class 5 Xtra Duty hitches begin a class of their own, beyond class 4 and beyond anything the standards dictate. They are designed for the hard road where only full-size pickup trucks, vans and SUVs dare to tread. They are capable of pulling almost any heavy-duty trailer, including toy haulers, dump trailers, logging trailers, small yacht trailers and more (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component). This particular Xtra Duty class 5 trailer hitch offers a gross trailer weight capacity of 16,000 lbs. and an extra-high tongue weight capacity of 2,400 lbs. It features a 2" x 2" receiver tube opening to accept a ball mount or hitch-mounted accessory, such as a cargo carrier or winch mount. It is designed to be a custom-fit trailer hitch for certain years of the Chevy Silverado 2500, 2500 HD or 2500 HD Classic and GMC Sierra 2500, 2500 HD or 2500 HD Classic with 6-foot bed (to verify compatibility with your vehicle, see application info). For a little extra towing power and stability, this class 5 hitch can also be used in combination with a weight distributing hitch. It is rated for 17,000 lbs. WD and 2,400 lbs. WDTW. In our drive to create a more powerful hitch, CURT has not neglected the finer details. Our class 5 trailer hitches are welded with precision and go through multiple stages of cleaning to create a smooth surface that is ready to accept our co-cured finish. To protect them from corrosion, chipping and UV damage, these hitches are immersed in a liquid A-coat and then finished in a high-quality black carbide powder coat. They come with grade-8 mounting hardware for solid installation.

Yes. The Curt 15302 is rated for both weight carrying and weight distribution use. When used as a weight carrying hitch, the gross load capacity is 16,000 lbs trailer weight and 2,400 lbs tongue weight. When used as a weight distribution hitch, the gross load capacity is 17,000 lbs trailer weight and 2,400 lbs tongue weight. Do not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
You will need: 3/4" socket, 21mm socket, 12" extension, ratchet, and torque wrench.
The kit includes: 4× 1/2"-13 UNC 1-3/4" grade 8 carriage bolts (part 10-10272), 2× 0.250 × 1.25 × 2.00" square hole spacers (CM-SP3), 2× 0.250 × 1.50 × 3.00" square hole spacers (CM-SP4), and 4× 1/2"-13 UNC grade 8 serrated flange nuts (part 20-00062). The installation also reuses existing 14mm bumper bracket bolts from your vehicle.
No. The manual states "NO DRILLING REQUIRED." The hitch uses existing holes in the frame and bumper bracket locations.
Yes. The first installation step is to lower the spare tire for ease of installation. Reinstall it after the hitch is secured (step 6).
Remove one 14mm bumper bracket bolt from each side of the vehicle. Raise the hitch into position by aligning the rearmost holes in the hitch with the holes where the bumper bracket bolts were removed. Secure the hitch using the existing 14mm bumper bracket bolts. These bolts are torqued to 126 lb-ft in the final step.
There are two sets of bolts: (1) In the forward-most hole of the frame and hitch on both sides, place a 1/2"-13 × 1-3/4" carriage bolt with a CM-SP4 spacer (0.250 × 1.50 × 3.00"), and secure with 1/2" hex flange nuts. (2) In the center hole of the frame and hitch on both sides, place a 1/2"-13 × 1-3/4" carriage bolt with a CM-SP3 spacer (0.250 × 1.25 × 2.00"), and secure with 1/2" hex flange nuts.
Torque all 1/2" hardware (carriage bolts and hex flange nuts) to 110 lb-ft.
Torque all 14mm bumper bracket bolts to 126 lb-ft.
After installation, periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. This maintenance is important for safe operation.
