Whatever your task at hand -- whether it's launching that boat before daybreak, setting up your camper before the rush or getting a final load to the dump before close -- CURT class 3 trailer hitches offer the strength needed for serious towing. They make it easy to hitch up and Bring It, offering a vehicle-specific fit and the weight capacity to handle a variety of trailers. Custom class 3 hitches are the most common type of receiver hitch for pickup trucks and SUVs. Because of their weight range, they are also found on full-size cars, crossovers and minivans. Each custom-fit class 3 hitch package is made for vehicle-specific mounting. This particular kit fits certain years of the Dodge Ram 1500 (see application info to verify vehicle compatibility). It provides a weight carrying capacity of 5,000 lbs. GTW and 500 lbs. TW. It is also compatible with a weight distribution hitch for level towing and a rating of 10,000 lbs. WD and 1,000 lbs. WDTW. CURT class 3 trailer hitches are typically used to attach and haul utility trailers, boat trailers, campers, snowmobile or ATV haulers and more (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Each class 3 hitch has a 2" receiver tube and is tested in accordance with SAE J684 for safety. To ensure that CURT class 3 receiver hitches have what it takes for serious trailering, they are designed using a hands-on approach and are constructed with rugged, high-strength steel and precise welding. We also protect our class 3 hitches in a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat and black powder coat for superior resistance to rust, chipping and UV damage.
Trailer hitch weight ratings are limited to vehicle manufacturer's stated capacities
Not compatible for use with vertical hanging bicycles (bike racks that require the bicycles to be hung / mounted vertically)

When used as a weight-carrying hitch, the gross load capacity is 5,000 lbs trailer weight and 500 lbs tongue weight. When used as a weight distribution hitch, the capacity is 10,000 lbs trailer weight and 1,000 lbs tongue weight. Do not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
No. The manual states "NO DRILLING REQUIRED." The hitch uses existing 3/4" diameter holes in the bumper cavity.
You will need: pliers (to remove plastic locking studs from the bumper), a torque wrench capable of 210 lb-ft, and the included 1/2" × 30" fishwire (to route bolts through the bumper beam). A socket set and wrenches to fit 1/2" and 5/8" fasteners are also required.
Yes. You must remove the bumper cover to access the steel bumper and the 3/4" diameter holes used for hitch attachment. The cover is held by four plastic locking studs underneath the bumper that must be squeezed together and pushed up to release the cover.
Locate the four plastic locking studs under the bumper. Using pliers, carefully squeeze each stud together and push it up through the bumper. Take care not to damage the locking tabs on the studs. From the top, carefully pull the bumper cover up. Do not deform the cover during removal.
The two 3/4" diameter holes on either side of the bumper cavity are used to attach the hitch. The 5/8" flat head bolts pass through these outer holes to secure the hitch to the bumper.
Insert a 1/2" carriage bolt and the rectangular backing plate into the end of the round inner bumper beam using the included 1/2" × 30" fishwire. Pull the bolts out through the holes in the bumper beam. The fishwire allows you to route the bolts through the hollow bumper beam without removing it.
Check for a gap between the bumper beam and the hitch mounting plate before final installation. If a gap exists, place one of the included 0.250" × 1.00" × 3.00" spacer plates (CM-SP6) between the bumper beam and the hitch mounting plate at the inner hole. If there is no gap, the spacer plate is not used.
Torque all 5/8" fasteners to 210 lb-ft and all 1/2" fasteners to 110 lb-ft.
After installation, verify that all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. Periodically check the hitch during use to ensure fasteners remain tight and components remain in good condition.
Curt Manufacturing warrants the hitch to be free of defects in material and workmanship at the time of retail purchase by the original purchaser. If defective, Curt may repair or replace it at their option when returned prepaid with proof of purchase. Warranty is voided by alteration, misuse, or improper installation.
Do not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, even though the hitch is rated for up to 5,000 lbs (weight-carrying) or 10,000 lbs (weight distribution). Your vehicle's capacity may be lower and must be respected.
No drilling required. The hitch uses existing 3/4" holes in the bumper cavity.
