Custom class 3 hitches are the most common type of receiver hitch for pickup trucks and SUVs. Because of their weight range, they are also found on full-size cars, crossovers and minivans. Each custom-fit class 3 hitch package is made for vehicle-specific mounting. This particular kit fits certain years of the Mercedes-Benz ML320, ML350, ML500 and ML550 (see application info to verify vehicle compatibility). It provides a weight carrying capacity of 3,500 lbs. GTW and 350 lbs. TW. It is also compatible with a weight distribution hitch for level towing and a rating of 4,000 lbs. WD and 400 lbs. WDTW. CURT class 3 trailer hitches are typically used to attach and haul utility trailers, boat trailers, campers, snowmobile or ATV haulers and more (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Each class 3 hitch has a 2" receiver tube and is tested in accordance with SAE J684 for safety. To ensure that CURT class 3 receiver hitches have what it takes for serious trailering, they are designed using a hands-on approach and are constructed with rugged, high-strength steel and precise welding. We also protect our class 3 hitches in a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat and black powder coat for superior resistance to rust, chipping and UV damage.

The CURT 13342 fits 2006–2010 Mercedes-Benz ML350 models, except those equipped with Blue TEC engines. However, it will not fit any vehicle equipped with air suspension. If your ML350 is 2010 or newer, the lower rear fascia must be trimmed during installation. Confirm your model year and suspension type before purchasing.

When used as a weight-carrying hitch, the CURT 13342 supports a maximum trailer weight of 3,500 lbs. and tongue weight of 350 lbs. When used as a weight-distribution hitch, it supports a maximum trailer weight of 4,000 lbs. and tongue weight of 400 lbs. You must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
Required tools include: 10 mm socket, 13 mm socket, 16 mm socket, 3/4" socket, 9" socket extension, torque wrench, ratchet, 17/32" drill bit, power drill, Torx bit socket, center punch, and aviation shears. Safety glasses must be worn at all times during installation.
The kit includes: (4) 1/2-13 UNC carriage bolts, 1-3/4" long, Grade 8 (part 10-10272); (2) .250 x 1.50 x 3.00" square hole spacers (CM-SP4); (2) .250 x 1.00 x 3.00" square hole spacers (CM-SP6); and (4) 1/2-13 UNC serrated flange nuts, Grade 8 (part 20-00062). The installation also reuses (4) existing M10 nuts from the bumper bracket weld studs.

Two people may be required to ease installation. The manual notes that using proper tools will greatly improve the quality of the install and reduce the time required.
Yes, drilling is required. In Step 6, you must drill (2) forward-most holes in the trunk pan using the hitch as a template and a 17/32" drill bit. These holes are used to secure the hitch with carriage bolts and spacers.
Fascia trimming may be required depending on your vehicle. If installing on a 2010 or newer ML350, you must trim the center web of the lower rear fascia, including the center plastic fascia tab and the metal tab it is attached to. For other model years, fascia trimming may be required but is not mandatory. The trunk pan cover may also be trimmed and reinstalled if desired (Step 9).
Use a 17/32" drill bit to drill the (2) forward-most holes in the trunk pan. A power drill and center punch are required.
All M10 fasteners must be torqued to 48 ft-lbs. These are the nuts securing the hitch to the bumper bracket weld studs.
All 1/2" fasteners must be torqued to 110 ft-lbs. These are the carriage bolts and flange nuts securing the hitch to the trunk pan.
The (2) forward-most holes in the trunk pan are drilled using a 17/32" drill bit. The holes are spaced 4.25 inches apart horizontally and 4.38 inches apart vertically, with a 0.50 inch offset. These dimensions are approximate; confirm fit prior to drilling.
Follow these steps in order: (1) Remove fascia screws and center fascia bracket; (2) Remove trunk pan cover nuts and cover; (3) Bend back heat shields and remove M10 nuts from bumper bracket weld studs; (4) Raise hitch into position and secure with M10 nuts, reinstall fascia screws; (5) Remove spare tire, foam locator, and pull back carpet; (6) Drill (2) forward-most holes in trunk pan; (7) Install carriage bolts with spacers and flange nuts; (8) Torque all fasteners; (9) Optionally trim and reinstall trunk pan cover; (10) Bend heat shields back into position.
In Step 4, raise the hitch into position and secure it to the bumper bracket weld studs using the (4) M10 nuts that were removed in Step 3. Gently flex the fascia and fascia brackets to slide the hitch into position. You may temporarily remove the (2) fascia brackets if needed. Reinstall the (2) fascia screws removed in Step 1.
Two types of spacers are used: CM-SP6 spacers (.250 x 1.00 x 3.00") are installed with carriage bolts in the rear-most holes of the trunk pan; CM-SP4 spacers (.250 x 1.50 x 3.00") are installed with carriage bolts in the forward-most drilled holes. Each spacer type is used with (2) bolts.
Yes. In Step 7, after installing the carriage bolts and flange nuts in the trunk pan, use silicone caulk or equivalent to seal the holes. This prevents water and debris from entering the trunk.
Yes. The trunk pan cover may be trimmed and reinstalled if desired. In Step 9, trim the cover as needed (dimensions are approximate; confirm fit prior to trimming) and re-attach it using the (4) nuts that were removed in Step 2. Refer to the trunk pan cover trim diagram on page 5 for guidance.
In Step 5, open the rear hatch and remove the spare tire and foam tire locator. Pull the carpet back by pushing the carpet tab below the plastic trim and carefully folding it towards the front of the vehicle. After drilling and installing the hitch bolts in Step 7, reinstall the carpet, foam spare tire locator, and spare tire.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times while installing this product. The manual also emphasizes that you should never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
