Custom class 3 hitches are the most common type of receiver hitch for pickup trucks and SUVs. Because of their weight range, they are also found on full-size cars, crossovers and minivans. Each custom-fit class 3 hitch package is made for vehicle-specific mounting. This particular kit fits certain years of the Toyota FJ Cruiser (see application info to verify vehicle compatibility). It provides a weight carrying capacity of 5,000 lbs. GTW and 500 lbs. TW. It is also compatible with a weight distribution hitch for level towing and a rating of 6,000 lbs. WD and 600 lbs. WDTW. CURT class 3 trailer hitches are typically used to attach and haul utility trailers, boat trailers, campers, snowmobile or ATV haulers and more (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Each class 3 hitch has a 2" receiver tube and is tested in accordance with SAE J684 for safety. To ensure that CURT class 3 receiver hitches have what it takes for serious trailering, they are designed using a hands-on approach and are constructed with rugged, high-strength steel and precise welding. We also protect our class 3 hitches in a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat and black powder coat for superior resistance to rust, chipping and UV damage.

The kit includes: 2× 7/16-14 UNC carriage bolts (1-1/2", Grade 8); 4× M12×1.25 hex head cap screws (30mm, Class 10.9); 2× M8×1.25 hex head cap screws (30mm, Class 10.9); 2× 7/16-14 UNC serrated flange nuts (Grade 8); 2× 3/8" split-cone washers; 4× 1/2" split-cone washers; 2× 0.250×0.88×2.25" square hole spacers; and 2× 7/16" fishwire.
Yes, fishwire is required. The 7/16" carriage bolts and square hole spacers must be fished into position through existing access holes in the frame rails using the included fishwire.
Yes. Step 1 of the installation requires removing the tow hook(s) if present. Return the removed tow hook to the vehicle owner.
Yes. The exhaust must be temporarily lowered to provide clearance for bolt installation. Lowering the three rearmost exhaust hangers will provide sufficient clearance. The exhaust hangers are reinstalled to their original position after bolt installation is complete.
1. Remove tow hook(s) if present. 2. Temporarily lower the three rearmost exhaust hangers. 3. Raise the hitch into position with the passenger side plate above the exhaust pipe, then loosely install the 12mm hex bolts into the existing weldnuts in the frame rails. 4. Fish the 7/16" carriage bolts and square hole spacers into position through the existing access holes, then install the remaining M8 fasteners. 5. Torque all fasteners to specification. 6. Reinstall the exhaust hangers to their original position.
The M12 hex bolts are installed into the existing weldnuts in the frame rails on both the driver and passenger sides. They are loosely installed in step 3 and then torqued to specification in step 5.
No, drilling is not required. The installation uses existing weldnuts and access holes in the frame rails.
Torque all M8 fasteners to 23 lb-ft, all 7/16" fasteners to 59 lb-ft, and all M12 fasteners to 86 lb-ft. All fasteners must be torqued in step 5 after the hitch is positioned and all bolts are loosely installed.
The manual does not provide the gross load capacity values. Contact Curt Manufacturing technical support at 1-877-287-8634 for the weight carrying and weight distribution capacities. Regardless of the hitch capacity, do not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. This is a routine maintenance requirement to maintain safe operation.
