The Tekonsha Brakeman IV digital trailer brake controller provides safety and connection when you need it most. As a time-based controller, the Brakeman IV is a great choice for basic, light-duty towing needs. This compact controller works by electronically connecting your vehicle and your trailer. When you hit the brakes in your tow vehicle, it generates an output signal that ramps up, or increases over a period of time, applying braking power to your trailer at a fixed rate. The Brakeman IV has up-front buttons so you can easily adjust power output, the sync ? or aggressiveness with which the controller applies the brakes, and engage manual override to help you brake safely when an unexpected stop pops up. It also works with electric or electric over hydraulic braking systems, and features advanced internal circuit protection, real time comprehensive diagnostics, and short circuit protection. Because the Brakeman IV is a time-based controller, there?s no requirement that it be positioned in the direction of travel; it can be installed anywhere you like as long as it is within reach of the driver. Plus, the Plug & Play feature allows for quick and easy connection with your vehicle?s wiring. The Brakeman IV trailer brake controller works with1-4 axle trailers, comes with all the mounting hardware needed for installation, and is backed by a limited lifetime warranty.

The Reese story starts in 1952, when Margaret Reese challenged her husband TJ to do something about travel trailers rocking whenever anyone walked through them. A few years later he built the first pair of stabilising jacks. The idea was simple and it worked, and it changed how the RV industry thought about trailer stability. From that beginning the Reese name grew into a full towing line covering fifth wheel hitches, pin boxes, weight distribution systems and accessories, and Reese Towpower carries that engineering into the products most owners buy off the shelf.
Receiver trailer hitches anchor the range, offered across the classes needed for everything from a small utility trailer to livestock and job-site loads. Construction is all-welded rather than bolted at the stress points, and each hitch is tested against published standards for strength and safety. Custom-fit hitches are engineered to the vehicle manufacturer's weight specifications for a given model and model year, so mounting points line up with existing frame holes and the finished installation sits where it should. No towing setup is complete without the connecting hardware, and Reese Towpower covers it comprehensively. Ball mounts come in fixed, adjustable and specialty forms with a range of rises and drops to level a trailer properly. Hitch balls are offered in the standard diameters and shank sizes, matched to coupler and load rating.
The towing accessories line fills in everything else: hitch pins and clips, locks, receiver tube covers, and safety chains rated to the load being pulled. The 22290-037 is a wiring adapter that connects an electric trailer brake controller to your vehicle's electrical system. It interfaces between the vehicle's brake system and the brake controller unit, allowing you to control trailer brakes from your vehicle. The adapter contains male terminals and connects via grey housings to either the factory brake controller (if equipped) or the vehicle's electrical system.
Yes. On vehicles equipped with a factory brake controller, the adapter connects to the large grey housing on the back of the brake controller unit. You will need to locate this housing and plug in the mating grey housing from the brake control adapter. Note that disconnecting the factory brake control will display a fault code on your vehicle's message center display.

You will need a trim panel puller to remove the center dash access panel on the passenger side. A flashlight is also recommended to help locate the routing path for the adapter to exit the bottom of the dash.
Make sure the vehicle is off with the keys removed from the ignition. Wear safety glasses and use all safety precautions during installation. Read and follow all vehicle warnings and installation instructions before beginning.
Locate the access panel in the center of the dash on the passenger side. Using a trim panel puller, locate the notch in the panel and carefully pry it out and away from the dash, being careful not to damage the trim or panel. Unplug the housings attaching the panel, being careful not to damage the locking tabs, and set the panel aside.
Carefully pull the grey housing towards the access panel and plug in the mating grey housing from the brake control adapter. The specific housing location depends on your vehicle: on vehicles with a factory brake controller, it is on the back of the controller unit; on vehicles without one, it is on the back of the trim panel directly left of the access panel.
Locate a routing path for the adapter to exit the bottom of the dash. Use a flashlight to shine light up through the bottom of the dash to locate a hole to exit the dash. This will help you determine the best path for running the adapter wiring.
Complete the installation per the electric brake control manufacturer's instructions and mount the unit as directed. Perform test procedures as instructed by the brake controller manufacturer. After the brake controller is installed, plug in all connectors that were not used back into the original housings and snap the access panel back into place.
