The 22291-037 adapter is designed for vehicles equipped with an OEM electric brake control harness. The harness is located underneath the dash, to the left of the steering column, and is taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal. If your vehicle has this harness and a matching 4-pin connector, the adapter should be compatible. Vehicles without an OEM trailer tow package may require additional fuses and relays (sold separately) to complete the output and battery feed circuits. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual to confirm your vehicle has the required OEM electric brake control harness.
The 22291-037 is a wiring adapter that connects an electronic trailer brake controller to a vehicle's OEM electric brake control harness. It features a 4-pin connector that plugs into the vehicle's brake control harness and a mating receptacle on the backside for the brake controller unit. The adapter contains male terminals and is colour-coded for the vehicle stop lamp switch input (red), ground (white), fused battery feed (black), and trailer brake controller output (blue).
The vehicle's electric brake control harness is located underneath the dash and to the left of the steering column. It is taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal. The harness has a 4-pin connector that mates with the connector on the adapter.
First, plug the brake control adapter into the mating receptacle on the backside of the brake control unit. Then, plug the adapter into the vehicle's electric brake control harness connector (the 4-pin connector located under the dash, left of the steering column). After that, follow all brake control manufacturer's installation instructions and mount the unit as directed.
The adapter has four colour-coded wires: Red is the vehicle stop lamp switch input to the brake controller; White is ground; Black is the fused trailer brake controller battery feed; and Blue is the trailer brake controller output to the electric trailer brakes.
Do not exceed the lower of your towing manufacturer's rating or a maximum of 3 axles with 6 brakes at 18 amps. Overloading the circuit can cause fires. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual and the brake control instruction sheet for additional information.
If your vehicle is equipped with an OEM trailer tow package, the adapter should work with the existing harness. However, vehicles not equipped with an OEM trailer tow package may require fuses and relays (sold separately) to complete the output and battery feed circuits. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual for the locations of these components.
Yes. After plugging the adapter into the vehicle's electric brake control harness connector, you must follow all brake control manufacturer's installation instructions and mount the unit as directed. You must also perform test procedures as instructed by the brake control manufacturer.
Wear safety glasses and use all safety precautions during installation. Read and follow all vehicle warnings and installation instructions before beginning. Do not exceed the circuit capacity (3 axles, 6 brakes, 18 amps maximum) as overloading can cause fires.
The adapter fits vehicles with an OEM electric brake control harness located under the dash, left of the steering column, with a 4-pin connector. Check your vehicle's owner's manual to confirm you have this harness.
Plug the adapter into the brake control unit's mating receptacle first, then plug the adapter into the vehicle's 4-pin brake control harness connector under the dash. Follow the brake control manufacturer's instructions to complete installation and perform required tests.
Maximum 3 axles, 6 brakes at 18 amps, or your towing manufacturer's lower rating. Exceeding this can cause fires.
Vehicles without an OEM trailer tow package may need fuses and relays (sold separately). Check your vehicle's owner's manual.
