However you define adventure -- whether it's climbing onto the back of a mountain bike, hunting from the top of a tree stand or camping with the family a long way from nowhere -- CURT class 1 hitches provide a light-duty towing receiver to help you Bring It. Each is made to fit a specific vehicle, providing easier installation, a better fit and optimal towing capacity. Custom class 1 trailer hitches are available for a variety of smaller vehicle types, including the compact car, crossover, minivan and small SUV. This particular class 1 hitch is designed to be a custom hitch for certain years of the BMW 535i, 535i xDrive, 550i and 550i xDrive (to verify vehicle compatibility, see the CURT application guide at curtmfg.com). Tested in accordance with SAE J684, it offers a weight carrying capacity of 2,000 lbs. GTW and 200 lbs. TW. It is equipped with 1-1/4" receiver tube opening to accept a ball mount shank or other hitch mount. This class 1 hitch also comes with all necessary mounting hardware. With its lightweight design and smaller receiver tube size, a class 1 hitch is especially useful for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted bike rack or cargo carrier. They can also typically be used to tow small trailers such as a utility trailer, kayak trailer or teardrop camper (never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component; i.e. the vehicle, hitch, trailer, etc). Though CURT class 1 trailer hitches are only intended for light-duty towing, we apply the same principles of quality as we do to the rest of our rear mount hitches. Each class 1 hitch is made with hands-on engineering, high-strength steel and precise welding. We use a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat, inside and out, and durable black powder coat to provide a lasting defense against rust, chips and UV rays.
Trailer hitch weight ratings are limited to vehicle manufacturer's stated capacities
Not compatible for use with vertical hanging bicycles (bike racks that require the bicycles to be hung / mounted vertically)
Includes installation hardware

Required tools include: ratchet with 6" extension, torque wrench, 3/4" and 13mm sockets, 10mm and 11mm sockets, power drill with 17/32" drill bit, plastic rivet removal tool, tin snips or aviation shears, masking tape, and safety goggles. Silicone caulk is also required.
Yes. You must remove the underbody panel that attaches the bumper cover to the trunk pan using a 10mm socket and plastic rivet remover. Save the panel for later reinstallation. After drilling and installing the hitch, trim the panel as required and reinstall it.
Clear the trunk pan of all contents and slide the battery towards the rear of the vehicle before drilling. After drilling and installation, slide the battery back into position and reinstall carpet and trunk contents.
Yes. You must drill two holes in the trunk pan using a 17/32" drill bit (for 1/2" fasteners). Drill from below the vehicle after using the tail bracket as a template to mark the trunk pan. The underbody panel must be trimmed as required after drilling.
Use a 17/32" drill bit to drill the two holes in the trunk pan for the 1/2" fasteners.
All 1/2" fasteners must be torqued to 110 lb-ft.
CURT 11381 includes: (4) 1/2"-13 UNC 1-1/4" carriage bolts (part 10-10278), (2) 1/2"-13 UNC 2" carriage bolts (part 10-10288), (6) 1/2"-13 UNC serrated flange nuts (part 20-00062), (2) .250 x 1.00 x 3.00" square hole spacers (part CM-SP6), (2) .250 x 1.50 x 3.00" square hole spacers (part CM-SP4), (2) .375 x 1.25 x 2.50" round hole spacers (part CM-SP55), (2) 1/2" fishwire, and (1) .500" tail bracket (part 11381-TB).
1. Remove the underbody panel using a 10mm socket and plastic rivet remover. 2. Fishwire (2) 1/2"-13 x 1-1/4" carriage bolts and (2) SP6 spacers into the existing bumper beam holes, raise the hitch into position, and loosely install the 1/2" hex flange nuts. 3. Temporarily install the tail bracket and use it as a template to mark the trunk pan drill holes. 4. Remove the tail bracket and drill both holes from below using a 17/32" drill bit. Reinstall the tail bracket with (2) 1/2"-13 x 1-1/4" carriage bolts and 1/2" hex flange nuts. 5. Apply silicone caulk to the SP4 spacers and remaining 1/2" carriage bolts, install into the trunk pan and tail bracket, and loosely install the remaining 1/2" hex flange nuts. 6. Torque all 1/2" fasteners to 110 lb-ft, trim the underbody panel as required, reinstall it, slide the battery back into position, and reinstall carpet and trunk contents.
The 1/2" hex flange nuts are installed loosely in steps 2 and 5 to allow for proper alignment and positioning of the hitch and tail bracket. All fasteners are then torqued to 110 lb-ft in the final step (step 6) after the hitch is properly positioned.
Silicone caulk is applied to the SP4 spacers and remaining 1/2" carriage bolts before they are installed into the trunk pan and tail bracket. This helps seal and protect the fasteners.
Push the bumper cover away from the bumper beam to access the existing holes in the bumper beam where the fishwire fasteners are installed.
