Typically used on full-size cars, crossovers, compact SUVs, minivans or even compact pickup trucks, a CURT class 2 trailer hitch complements the design of smaller vehicles. This particular class 2 hitch is made to be a custom hitch for certain years of the Volvo S60, V60, V60 Cross Country, V70 and XC70 (to verify vehicle compatibility, see application info). It offers a weight carrying capacity of 3,500 lbs. GTW and 350 lbs. TW. Class 2 trailer hitches can typically be used to tow a variety of lightweight trailers, such as a small utility trailer, small fishing boat trailer or popup camper (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component). They are also perfect for adding cargo space to your vehicle with a bike rack or cargo carrier. This class 2 hitch features a 1-1/4" receiver tube to accept a ball mount shank or other hitch-mounted accessory. For safety, it is tested in accordance with SAE J684. A custom trailer hitch design requires extra care, and as such, CURT class 2 hitches are engineered using real vehicles and hands-on research. We use high-strength steel, robotic welding and rigorous testing to produce hitches that are built to fit your lifestyle. To ensure that each hitch will be a reliable extension of your vehicle, we also finish our hitches in a co-curing of liquid A-coat and black powder coat, giving them long-lasting rust and wear resistance.

Yes, trimming a 2" by 2.5" notch in the lower bumper fascia is required. Using a rotary tool, carefully cut out the bottom center of the fascia to the dimensions shown in Figure 1. Trim dimensions are approximate; confirm fit before trimming. Heat shield trimming may also be required for clearance around the receiver tube.
Required tools are: T20 and T25 Torx drivers, 8mm, 10mm, 13mm, 14mm, and 17mm sockets, 6" socket extension, ratchet, torque wrench, and rotary tool. Safety glasses must be worn at all times during installation.
Two people are recommended to ease installation, particularly for removing the rear bumper fascia to prevent scratches or damage to the vehicle.
On V70 and XC70 models, the towing eye must be loosened (not fully removed) to allow bumper beam removal. The kit includes 6 M10x1.5 hex head cap screws (HHCS) at 45mm length, class 10.9 (part 10-10414), 6 conical tooth washers 7/16" (part 30-00163), 2 round hole spacers 0.375" x 1.25" x 2.00" (part CM-SP56), and 2 flat 0.375" spacers (part 12066-SP).
All M10 fasteners must be torqued to 45 lb-ft. This includes the hitch mounting bolts and the towing eye bolts on V70 and XC70 models.
Use the supplied spacer plates if the mounting surface on the Volvo has raised edges around the perimeter and center holes. The Volvo S60 has spot welded plates with this configuration. The spacers are installed between the hitch and bumper beam to ensure proper alignment.
1. Remove rear bumper fascia and disconnect backup sensor if present. 2. Loosen towing eye (V70/XC70 only). 3. Remove bumper beam. 4. Place hitch into bumper beam aligning holes. 5. Raise hitch and bumper beam into position using supplied spacers if needed. 6. Hand tighten M10 bolts and conical washers. 7. Reinstall towing eye if applicable and hand tighten. 8. Torque all M10 fasteners to 45 lb-ft. 9. Retighten towing eye from inside vehicle (V70/XC70 only). 10. Replace appearance panel bolts (V70/XC70 only). 11. Trim fascia using rotary tool and reinstall.
