The CURT brake control harness connects your vehicle's electrical system to a brake control unit. It allows the brake control unit to interface with your vehicle's braking system. The harness must be used with a brake control unit (sold separately) and installed according to the manufacturer's instructions.

You will need a trim panel removal tool to remove the center dash access panel on the passenger side. The manual does not specify additional tools required.
The brake control harness connector (BH5) is located under the dash, behind the center access panel on the passenger side. The harness routes along the back of the dash and out the bottom to connect to the brake control unit.
1. Make sure the vehicle is off and keys are removed from the ignition. 2. Locate the access panel in the center of the dash on the passenger side. 3. Using a trim panel removal tool, locate the notch in the panel and pry it out and away from the dash. 4. Take care not to damage the trim or locking tabs on the back. 5. Separate the housings attaching the panel and set the panel aside.
If your vehicle has a factory brake control, locate the grey vehicle brake control harness connector plugged into the back of the factory brake control unit. You may need to unplug additional harnesses to access it. Then proceed to Step 4 to connect the CURT harness. Note: Disconnecting the factory brake control will cause a fault code to display on the message center of the dash.
On vehicles without a factory brake control, the grey vehicle brake control harness connector is located on the back of the trim panel directly to the left of the access panel.
Carefully pull the housing towards the access panel and insert the connector on the CURT brake control harness into the vehicle connector. Make sure the connector is fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
Route the brake control harness along the back of the dash and out the bottom to the brake control unit. Tip: Use a flashlight to shine light up through the bottom of the dash to locate a hole to exit the dash.
Insert the brake control harness's black connector into the brake control's quick plug connector. Secure the brake control harness with the provided cable ties, avoiding any pinch points.
After the brake control harness is installed, plug in all connectors that were not used back into the original housings and reinstall the access panel. Then complete the installation using the brake control unit's instructions, mount the unit as directed, and perform test procedures as instructed in the brake control user manual.
The manual instructs you to avoid pinch points when securing the brake control harness with cable ties. Pinching the harness could damage the wiring and cause electrical failure or safety issues. Use the provided cable ties to secure the harness safely along its route.
When you disconnect the factory installed brake control, a fault code will display on the message center of the dash. This is normal and expected during installation.
