Each class 3 hitch has a 2" receiver tube and is tested in accordance with SAE J684 for safety. To ensure that CURT class 3 receiver hitches have what it takes for serious trailering, they are designed using a hands-on approach and are constructed with rugged, high-strength steel and precise welding. We also protect our class 3 hitches in a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat and black powder coat for superior resistance to rust, chipping and UV damage.
Installation requires hole enlargement, heat shield and fascia trimming and exhaust to be temporarily lowered
Trailer hitch weight ratings are limited to vehicle manufacturer's stated capacities

Yes, the CURT 13238 is designed for 2015-Present Audi Q3 Crossover models. Before purchasing, verify your vehicle matches this specification and confirm your vehicle's towing capacity with your manufacturer to ensure you do not exceed it.
The CURT 13238 is rated for a maximum of 3500 lbs trailer weight and 525 lbs tongue weight when used as a weight-carrying hitch. However, you must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower. Always verify your specific vehicle's limits before towing.
Non-trailer (wheel-less) loads can be applied to this hitch, but they must be supported by CURT 18050 stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty. See the CURT catalog or visit www.curtmfg.com for further information on stabilizing straps.
Required tools are: ratchet, torque wrench, die grinder, T27 socket, 13mm socket, 3/4" socket, 8" extension, and aviation shears. Safety glasses must be worn at all times during installation. Using proper tools will greatly improve the quality of the install and reduce installation time.
Two people may be required to ease installation. If you are hesitant to undertake this task on your own, contact an authorized CURT installer for additional assistance. Technical support is available at 877-287-8634.
Professional installation time is approximately 90 minutes. Novice (DIY) installation time is approximately 45 minutes. Actual time may vary depending on your experience level and familiarity with the tools required.
No drilling is required. However, hole enlargement is required on the frame rails. You must enlarge the forwardmost hole along the bottom of each frame rail and the hole on the outside of each frame rail using a die grinder. These enlarged holes accommodate the 1/2" carriage bolts and spacers.
Yes. You must trim a 3-1/2" square section from the center at the bottom of the bumper fascia using aviation shears. This trimming is required to provide clearance for the hitch. The bumper cover fasteners are then reinstalled after trimming.
Yes. The exhaust must be lowered during installation. You must remove (2) M8 fasteners for the driver side exhaust bracket and (2) M8 fasteners for the muffler hangers using a 13mm socket. Support the muffler to prevent damage to the exhaust. The exhaust brackets are then raised and secured after hitch installation.
Yes. You must cut a notch in the heat shield to clear the forwardmost mounting hole on the driver side frame rail using aviation shears. Remove the heat shield first by removing (1) bolt using a 13mm socket and (1) speed nut. After cutting the notch, reinstall the heat shield using the same bolt and speed nut.
The kit includes: (6) 1/2" fishwire, (2) .375 x 1.25 x 2.00" round hole spacers (CM-SP56), (6) 1/2"-13 UNC carriage bolts grade 8 (10-10287), (6) .250 x 1.00 x 2.50" square hole spacers (CM-SP10), and (6) 1/2"-13 UNC serrated flange nuts grade 8 (20-00062). Factory M8 fasteners for the exhaust brackets are reused.
All 1/2" hardware (carriage bolts and flange nuts) must be torqued to 110 ft-lbs. This torque is applied after the hitch is raised into position and loosely fastened, and before the exhaust brackets are secured.
The factory M8 fasteners for the exhaust brackets must be torqued to 20 ft-lbs. These fasteners are reused from the original exhaust bracket installation and are torqued after the CM-SP56 spacers are placed between the driver side exhaust bracket and the frame.
The fishwire technique is used to route 1/2" carriage bolts and spacers through the frame rail access holes. You reverse fishwire the bolts and spacers through the access hole to the forwardmost hole and outside holes on each frame rail. This technique allows you to position the hardware before raising the hitch into place. The manual includes a fishwire illustration to guide this process.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. This ongoing inspection helps maintain the integrity and safety of the installation. No specific retorque interval is provided in the manual.
Yes. The CURT 13238 complies with safety specifications and requirements for connecting devices and towing systems of the state of New York, V.E.S.C. Regulation V-5 and SAE J684.
Yes, the CURT 13238 is designed for 2015-Present Audi Q3 Crossover models. Verify your vehicle matches this specification and confirm your vehicle's towing capacity does not exceed the hitch rating of 3500 lbs trailer weight and 525 lbs tongue weight.
Hole enlargement on frame rails is required (using a die grinder). Bumper fascia trimming is required (3-1/2" square section). Exhaust lowering is required. Heat shield notching is required. All modifications are permanent.
