However you define adventure -- whether it's climbing onto the back of a mountain bike, hunting from the top of a tree stand or camping with the family a long way from nowhere -- CURT class 1 hitches provide a light-duty towing receiver to help you Bring It. Each is made to fit a specific vehicle, providing easier installation, a better fit and optimal towing capacity. Custom class 1 trailer hitches are available for a variety of smaller vehicle types, including the compact car, crossover, minivan and small SUV. This particular class 1 hitch is designed to be a custom hitch for certain years of the Subaru Impreza, WRX and WRX STI (to verify vehicle compatibility, see the CURT application guide at curtmfg.com). Tested in accordance with SAE J684, it offers a weight carrying capacity of 2,000 lbs. GTW and 200 lbs. TW. It is equipped with 1-1/4" receiver tube opening to accept a ball mount shank or other hitch mount. This class 1 hitch also comes with all necessary mounting hardware. With its lightweight design and smaller receiver tube size, a class 1 hitch is especially useful for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted bike rack or cargo carrier. They can also typically be used to tow small trailers such as a utility trailer, kayak trailer or teardrop camper (never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component; i.e. the vehicle, hitch, trailer, etc). Though CURT class 1 trailer hitches are only intended for light-duty towing, we apply the same principles of quality as we do to the rest of our rear mount hitches. Each class 1 hitch is made with hands-on engineering, high-strength steel and precise welding. We use a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat, inside and out, and durable black powder coat to provide a lasting defense against rust, chips and UV rays.
Trailer hitch weight ratings are limited to vehicle manufacturer's stated capacities
Not compatible for use with vertical hanging bicycles (bike racks that require the bicycles to be hung / mounted vertically)
Includes installation hardware

The manual specifies a gross load capacity of 2,000 lbs. trailer weight and 200 lbs. tongue weight when used as a weight-carrying hitch. However, you must not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower.
The manual states that all non-trailer loads applied to this product must be supported by CURT 18050 stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty. Refer to the CURT catalog or www.curtmfg.com for further information on the 18050 straps.
You will need: aviator shears, 3/4" socket, 10mm socket, ratchet, torque wrench, die grinder, and safety glasses. The manual notes that using proper tools will greatly improve the quality of the install and reduce the time required.
The kit includes: 4 bolts (1/2"-13 UNC, 1-1/2", grade 8, part 10-10287), 4 serrated flange nuts (1/2"-13 UNC, grade 8, part 20-00062), 4 square hole spacers (0.250" x 1.00" x 3.00", part CM-SP6), and 4 pieces of 1/2" fishwire (part 1_2 FISHWIRE).
The manual states that 2 people may be required to ease installation. If you are hesitant to undertake this task on your own, CURT recommends contacting an authorized CURT installer for additional assistance. You can also call technical support at 1-877-287-8634.
Professional installation time is 35 minutes. Novice DIY installation time is 70 minutes. Actual time may vary depending on your experience and familiarity with the vehicle.
The manual does not mention disconnecting the battery as part of the installation procedure.
Yes. The first installation step is to lower the exhaust by removing 5 rear rubber isolators. The manual notes that you must support the exhaust as required during this step. If needed to access outside hangers, you must also remove plastic underbody panels by removing plastic fittings (7 per side). After the hitch is installed and torqued, you must reinstall the exhaust and underbody panels.
No drilling is required. However, the installation does require cutting a hole in the heat shield, enlarging existing access holes on both sides of the frame to allow 1/2" fasteners to pass through, and trimming a 1" hole on the dimple on both the right and left sides. These modifications are performed using a die grinder and aviator shears.
Yes. You must remove the heat shield by removing 4 small screws with a 10mm socket, then cut a hole in the heat shield as shown in the installation diagram. After fishwiring the hardware into position, you reinstall the heat shield with 3 of the fasteners, leaving out the one between the mounting holes. The heat shield will be sandwiched between the hitch and vehicle frame rails.
Fishwiring is the process of threading the 1/2" hardware (bolts, nuts, spacers, and fishwire) through the access holes in the frame rails into position on both sides of the vehicle. The fishwire is used to guide the hardware through the enlarged access holes before the hitch is raised into position.
All 1/2" fasteners must be torqued to 110 lb-ft. This is done after the hitch is raised into position and before the exhaust and underbody panels are reinstalled.
CURT 11408 is designed for use with ballmount #45521. Euro mount options are also available: #45571 (1 7/8" ball) or #45572 (2" ball).
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. The manual does not specify a retorque interval, but recommends regular inspection as part of ongoing vehicle maintenance.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times while installing this product. The exhaust must be supported as required during the lowering step. Before you begin installation, read all instructions thoroughly. If you are hesitant to undertake this task on your own, contact an authorized CURT installer.
