This CURT class 2 hitch is perfect for towing a small trailer, such as a boat trailer, lightweight camper or utility trailer. It can also be used to mount a hitch cargo carrier or bike rack (never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Like all CURT custom hitches, this class 2 trailer hitch is made for a vehicle-specific fit. It is engineered to seamlessly integrate with select years of the Volvo S60, V60, V60 Cross Country, V70 and XC70 (see application info to verify fitment). It is rated for 3,500 pounds gross trailer weight and 350 pounds tongue weight. It is also equipped with 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" hitch receiver to accept the included ball mount. The ball mount that comes with this hitch kit has a 3/4" trailer ball hole and can be positioned in the drop or rise orientation for level towing with your specific trailer (trailer ball not included). Like all CURT custom receiver hitches, this class 2 hitch is designed, manufactured, finished and tested with the utmost care. It is engineered for a precise fit, easy installation, maximum towing strength and an integrated look on the vehicle. It is also tested to SAE J684 protocols for safety. This class 2 trailer hitch is finished with our industry-leading dual-coat process for unparalleled rust, chip and UV resistance. It is descaled for a smooth surface, submersed in liquid A-coat for rust prevention inside and out, covered with a highly durable powder coat, and finally co-cured for a dependable shield against the elements. A 2" × 2.5" notch must be trimmed from the bottom inside of the rear bumper fascia using a rotary tool. The trim dimensions are approximate; you should confirm the fit before trimming. The notch is located at the bottom center of the fascia. If a factory Volvo hitch outline is marked on the fascia, that area indicates an alternative trim location.
All M10 fasteners must be torqued to 45 lb-ft. This includes the six M10 × 1.5 × 45mm hex bolts that secure the hitch to the bumper beam. On V70 and XC70 models, the towing eye hook must also be retightened and torqued to 45 lb-ft from inside the vehicle.
The kit includes: six conical toothed washers (7/16"), six M10 × 1.5 × 45mm hex bolts, two .375" × 1.25" × 2.00" round hole spacers (part number CM-SP56), and two .375" spacers (part number 12066-SP). The spacers are used if the mounting surface has raised edges on the rear face of the end panel.
Use the supplied spacers only if the mounting surface on the rear face of the end panel has raised edges. The Volvo S60 has spot-welded plates with raised edges around the perimeter and center holes, so spacers are required for this model. If your vehicle has this configuration, install the spacers as illustrated in the manual before installing the M10 bolts.
1. Remove rear bumper fascia and disconnect back-up sensor wiring. 2. On V70/XC70 models, loosen the towing eye. 3. Remove the bumper beam. 4. Align the hitch with the bumper beam holes. 5. Raise the hitch and bumper beam into position, using spacers if needed. 6. Install M10 bolts and conical washers; hand-tighten driver side and lower passenger side bolts. 7. Reinstall the towing eye if applicable (sandwich hitch, bumper beam, and towing eye). 8. Torque all M10 fasteners to 45 lb-ft. 9. On V70/XC70 models, retighten the towing eye from inside the vehicle to 45 lb-ft. 10. Reinstall the inside appearance panel (V70/XC70 only). 11. Trim the fascia notch and reinstall the fascia.
On V70 and XC70 models, the towing eye must be loosened (not fully removed) to allow the bumper beam to be removed. The towing eye is then reinstalled and sandwiched between the hitch and bumper beam before final torquing. On S60 models, the manual does not explicitly address towing eye removal; contact CURT Technical Support at 800-798-0813 for clarification.
All non-trailer loads (wheel-less loads) applied to this hitch must be supported by CURT 18050 stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty.
