Whatever the next checkpoint is on your adventure -- whether it's getting your bike on the trail before sunrise or making it to the campground before dark -- CURT class 2 hitches let you Bring It with confidence. These receiver hitches are made to handle most light-duty towing applications and offer a custom fit for your vehicle. Typically used on full-size cars, crossovers, compact SUVs, minivans or even compact pickup trucks, a CURT class 2 trailer hitch complements the design of smaller vehicles. This particular class 2 hitch is made to be a custom hitch for certain years of the Mercedes-Benz CLA250 (to verify vehicle compatibility, see application info). It offers a weight carrying capacity of 3,500 lbs. GTW and 350 lbs. TW. Class 2 trailer hitches can typically be used to tow a variety of lightweight trailers, such as a small utility trailer, small fishing boat trailer or popup camper (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component). They are also perfect for adding cargo space to your vehicle with a bike rack or cargo carrier. This class 2 hitch features a 1-1/4" receiver tube to accept a ball mount shank or other hitch-mounted accessory. For safety, it is tested in accordance with SAE J684. A custom trailer hitch design requires extra care, and as such, CURT class 2 hitches are engineered using real vehicles and hands-on research. We use high-strength steel, robotic welding and rigorous testing to produce hitches that are built to fit your lifestyle. To ensure that each hitch will be a reliable extension of your vehicle, we also finish our hitches in a co-curing of liquid A-coat and black powder coat, giving them long-lasting rust and wear resistance.
Trailer hitch weight ratings are limited to vehicle manufacturer's stated capacities
Not compatible for use with vertical hanging bicycles (bike racks that require the bicycles to be hung / mounted vertically)
Uses pre-existing vehicle hardware for installation (installation requires trimming of underbody panel and temporary removal of bumper panel and lowering of exhaust)

Call 888-634-9494Yes, CURT part number 12163 is designed for 2016-present Mercedes CLA 250 Sedan models. Before purchasing, verify your vehicle matches this year and model exactly, as the hitch is not compatible with other Mercedes models or body styles.
The maximum trailer weight is 3,500 lbs and the maximum tongue weight is 350 lbs. You must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. These are the limits for this hitch when used as a weight-carrying hitch.
You will need: ratchet, torque wrench, 6-inch socket extension, 8mm socket, 10mm socket, 16mm socket, masking tape, aviation shears, safety glasses, tape measure, pry tool, and silicone sealant. A torque wrench is essential because the final fasteners must be torqued to exactly 45 ft-lbs.
No, drilling is not required. The hitch uses existing vehicle mounting hardware and mounting points. However, trimming of the underbody panel is required.
You must mark out and trim a 2 inch by 4 inch section from the underbody panel using masking tape and aviation shears. This opening allows clearance for the hitch installation. The underbody panel is then reinstalled after the hitch is mounted.
Yes, you must temporarily remove the bumper beam and lower fascia. The bumper beam is removed by pulling it toward the rear of the car while twisting it upward. After the hitch is installed, the bumper beam is reinstalled by reversing these steps. The bumper fascia is also temporarily removed and then reinstalled.
Yes, the exhaust must be lowered before installation. This is done by locating and removing two E12 Torx bolts, one on each side of the exhaust. The exhaust is then reinstalled in reverse order after the hitch is mounted.
Two people may be required to ease installation. While one person may be able to complete the installation, having a second person will help, particularly when removing and reinstalling the bumper beam and managing the hitch positioning.
All fasteners connecting the bumper beam to the hitch must be torqued to 45 ft-lbs using a torque wrench and 16mm socket. This is the final step after the hitch is positioned and all components are aligned.
No. When you first place the bumper beam onto the hitch and align the studs with the holes, you should loosely fasten the nuts removed in Step 5. Only after the hitch is fully positioned and all components are aligned should you use the torque wrench to torque all fasteners to 45 ft-lbs in the final step.
Yes, you reuse existing vehicle fasteners: (2) E12 Torx bolts from the exhaust, (10) push pins from the wheel well, (6) nuts from the underbody panel, (2) bolts from the fascia supports, and (8) nuts from the bumper beam connection points. All of these are removed during disassembly and reinstalled during reassembly. The bumper beam nuts are specifically reused to fasten the hitch.
After torquing all fasteners to 45 ft-lbs, reinstall components by reversing steps 1 through 5 in reverse order. This means: reinstall the bumper beam and fascia, reinstall the underbody panel, reinstall the fascia support bolts, reinstall the wheel well push pins, and finally reinstall the exhaust Torx bolts.
Silicone sealant must be applied around the openings of the frame rail on each side where the hitch connects. This sealing prevents water and debris from entering the frame. Apply sealant on both sides as shown in Figure 1 of the manual.
CURT hitch 12163 is designed for use with ball mount #45521. Euro mount options are also available: #45571 for a 1 7/8 inch ball or #45572 for a 2 inch ball. These must be purchased separately.
All non-trailer (wheel-less) loads applied to this hitch must be supported by CURT stabilizing straps model 18050. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty. Non-trailer loads cannot be attached directly to the hitch without these straps.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times while installing this product. Read all instructions thoroughly before beginning. If you are hesitant to undertake this task on your own, contact an authorized CURT installer for additional assistance. You can reach CURT technical support at 877-287-8634.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. This ongoing inspection helps maintain the safety and integrity of the installation. Check fasteners and components regularly during the life of the hitch.
