However you define adventure -- whether it's climbing onto the back of a mountain bike, hunting from the top of a tree stand or camping with the family a long way from nowhere -- CURT class 1 hitches provide a light-duty towing receiver to help you Bring It. Each is made to fit a specific vehicle, providing easier installation, a better fit and optimal towing capacity. Custom class 1 trailer hitches are available for a variety of smaller vehicle types, including the compact car, crossover, minivan and small SUV. This particular class 1 hitch is designed to be a custom hitch for certain years of the Hyundai Sonata and Kia Optima (to verify vehicle compatibility, see the CURT application guide at curtmfg.com). Tested in accordance with SAE J684, it offers a weight carrying capacity of 2,000 lbs. GTW and 200 lbs. TW. It is equipped with 1-1/4" receiver tube opening to accept a ball mount shank or other hitch mount. This class 1 hitch also comes with all necessary mounting hardware. With its lightweight design and smaller receiver tube size, a class 1 hitch is especially useful for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted bike rack or cargo carrier. They can also typically be used to tow small trailers such as a utility trailer, kayak trailer or teardrop camper (never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component; i.e. the vehicle, hitch, trailer, etc). Though CURT class 1 trailer hitches are only intended for light-duty towing, we apply the same principles of quality as we do to the rest of our rear mount hitches. Each class 1 hitch is made with hands-on engineering, high-strength steel and precise welding. We use a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat, inside and out, and durable black powder coat to provide a lasting defense against rust, chips and UV rays.
Trailer hitch weight ratings are limited to vehicle manufacturer's stated capacities
Not compatible for use with vertical hanging bicycles (bike racks that require the bicycles to be hung / mounted vertically)
Includes installation hardware

Yes, the 2016-2020 Kia Optima All Class 1 Trailer Hitch, 1-1/4" Receiver + 2" Ball + 1-7/8" Ball Kit (Part #CHD-11402-001) is designed to fit the 2016-2020 Kia Optima.
The 2016-2020 Kia Optima All Class 1 Trailer Hitch, 1-1/4" Receiver + 2" Ball + 1-7/8" Ball Kit (Part #CHD-11402-001) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes, the CURT 11402 is designed for 2016-present Kia Optima sedans. The hitch is a weight-carrying receiver hitch with a maximum trailer weight capacity of 2,000 lbs and tongue weight capacity of 200 lbs. Always verify your vehicle's manufacturer-recommended towing capacity before towing.
Yes, the CURT 11402 is designed for 2015-present Hyundai Sonata sedans, including Blue Drive models. The hitch is a weight-carrying receiver hitch with a maximum trailer weight capacity of 2,000 lbs and tongue weight capacity of 200 lbs. Always verify your vehicle's manufacturer-recommended towing capacity before towing.
The CURT 11402 has a maximum trailer weight capacity of 2,000 lbs and a tongue weight capacity of 200 lbs when used as a weight-carrying hitch. However, you must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower than these ratings.
You will need: a ratchet, 10 mm socket, 3/4 inch socket, torque wrench, pry bar, safety glasses, spray lubricant, and a die grinder. The die grinder is needed to enlarge the forward-most hole on both frame rails to allow 1/2" bolts and spacers to pass through.
The kit includes: 4 bolts (1/2-13 UNC, 1-1/4", grade 8, yellow zinc, part 10-10278); 4 square hole spacers (0.250 x 1.00 x 3.00", part CM-SP6); 4 serrated flange nuts (1/2-13 UNC, grade 8, yellow zinc, part 20-00062); and 2 pieces of 1/2" x 30" fishwire (part 1_2 x 30 FISHWIRE).
Yes. You must remove the rubber exhaust hangers and temporarily lower the exhaust to access the frame rails. Be sure to support the exhaust to prevent damage. After installation is complete, you will raise the exhaust back into position.
Yes. You must temporarily remove the heat shield(s) by removing fasteners with a 10 mm socket. After the hitch is installed and torqued, you will reinstall the heat shield(s), leaving the rear-most fastener off. You may have to slot the front hole in the heat shield to accommodate the hitch.
If your vehicle has a plastic underbody panel, you must temporarily remove it by removing plastic fasteners and fasteners with a 10 mm socket. After installation, you will trim the panel (see trim diagram for approximate dimensions) and reinstall it.
No new holes need to be drilled. However, you must enlarge the forward-most hole on both frame rails to allow 1/2" bolts and spacers to pass through. This enlargement is done using a die grinder. The rear holes are already present and will be used as-is.
Fishwire is a technique to route hardware through tight spaces. For this hitch: thread the 1/2" bolts and spacers through the enlarged forward hole and out through the rear holes on each side. Then reverse the bolts and spacers back into the enlarged holes. This allows you to position the hardware before raising the hitch into place. The manual references fishwire technique diagrams for visual guidance.
All 1/2" hardware (bolts and flange nuts) must be torqued to 110 ft-lbs. Use a torque wrench to ensure proper tightness. This torque should be applied after the hitch is raised into position and attached to the frame.
Two people may be required to ease installation. While one person may be able to complete the installation, having a second person can help, particularly when raising the hitch into position.
The CURT 11402 is rated as an EASY installation. However, it requires specific tools (including a die grinder for hole enlargement), removal of multiple vehicle components (exhaust, heat shield, underbody panel), and the fishwire technique for hardware routing. If you are hesitant to undertake this task, CURT recommends contacting an authorized CURT installer for assistance.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times while installing this product. When lowering the exhaust, be sure to support it to prevent damage. When raising the hitch into position, be careful not to push hardware into the frame. Read all instructions thoroughly before beginning installation.
All non-trailer loads (wheel-less loads) applied to this hitch must be supported by CURT 18050 stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty. CURT recommends the use of 18050 stabilizing straps for all non-trailer loads.
After installation, verify that all 1/2" hardware has been torqued to 110 ft-lbs. Ensure the heat shield(s) are reinstalled with the rear-most fastener left off. Confirm the exhaust is raised back into position. If an underbody panel was present, verify it has been trimmed and reinstalled. Periodically check that all fasteners remain tight and all structural components are sound.
You should periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. The manual does not specify an exact interval, but regular inspection before towing is recommended.
The CURT 11402 is designed for use with ballmount 45521. Euro mount options are available: part 45571 (1-7/8" ball) and part 45572 (2" ball).
