A CURT trailer hitch is the key to pursuing your passions, whether you're taking the family boat out for an afternoon on the water or packing up the mountain bikes for a day on the trails. This CURT class 2 hitch is perfect for towing a small trailer, such as a boat trailer, lightweight camper or utility trailer. It can also be used to mount a hitch cargo carrier or bike rack (never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Like all CURT custom hitches, this class 2 trailer hitch is made for a vehicle-specific fit. It is engineered to seamlessly integrate with select years of the Kia Sportage (see application info to verify fitment). It is rated for 3,500 pounds gross trailer weight and 350 pounds tongue weight. It is also equipped with 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" hitch receiver to accept the included ball mount. The ball mount that comes with this hitch kit has a 3/4" trailer ball hole and can be positioned in the drop or rise orientation for level towing with your specific trailer (trailer ball not included). Like all CURT custom receiver hitches, this class 2 hitch is designed, manufactured, finished and tested with the utmost care. It is engineered for a precise fit, easy installation, maximum towing strength and an integrated look on the vehicle. It is also tested to SAE J684 protocols for safety. This class 2 trailer hitch is finished with our industry-leading dual-coat process for unparalleled rust, chip and UV resistance. It is descaled for a smooth surface, submersed in liquid A-coat for rust prevention inside and out, covered with a highly durable powder coat, and finally co-cured for a dependable shield against the elements. This class 2 hitch comes with a ball mount, hitch pin and mounting hardware for a complete installation.
Trailer hitch weight ratings are limited to vehicle manufacturer's stated capacities
Not compatible for use with vertical hanging bicycles (bike racks that require the bicycles to be hung / mounted vertically)
Installation requires temporary removal of underbody cover and lowering of exhaust

Yes, CURT part number 12158 is designed for 2017-current Kia Sportage SUVs. Before purchasing, verify your vehicle matches this year range and model. If you have a different year or model, contact CURT technical support at 800.798.0813 to confirm fitment.
The CURT 12158 is rated for a maximum of 3,500 lbs trailer weight and 350 lbs tongue weight when used as a weight-carrying hitch. However, you must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower. Always verify your vehicle's limits before towing.
Non-trailer (wheel-less) loads can be applied to this hitch, but they must be fully supported by CURT 18050 stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty. See the CURT catalog or visit www.curtmfg.com for information on the 18050 straps.
The CURT 12158 is designed for use with ball mount #45521. Euro mount options are available: #45571 (1 7/8" ball) and #45572 (2" ball). Contact CURT or visit www.curtmfg.com for full compatibility details and to order the correct ball mount for your application.
You will need: a ratchet, 17mm socket, torque wrench, 6-inch socket extension, flathead screwdriver, and safety glasses. Using proper tools will greatly improve the quality of the installation and reduce installation time.
The hitch includes 8 M10-1.25 x 30 hex bolts and 8 conical toothed washers (7/16"). These fasteners are used to secure the hitch to the vehicle's frame rails using existing weldnuts on both sides.
No, drilling is not required. The CURT 12158 uses existing weldnuts on the vehicle's frame rails, so no drilling or permanent modifications to the vehicle are necessary.
Yes, you must temporarily lower the exhaust by detaching 2 exhaust isolators to access the installation area. After securing the hitch, you will raise the exhaust back into position and reattach the isolators.
Yes, you must temporarily remove underbody panels to access the installation area. The panels are held by 3 plastic clips on the driver and passenger sides. Retain all hardware and panels for reinstallation after the hitch is secured.
Two people may be required to ease installation. If you are hesitant to undertake this task on your own, contact an authorized CURT installer for additional assistance. Call CURT technical support at 800.798.0813.
All M10 hardware must be torqued to 48 lb-ft. Use a torque wrench with a 17mm socket to ensure proper fastening. Under-torquing or over-torquing can compromise the hitch's structural integrity.
The white fasteners that attach the panel covers to studs on the vehicle may pull off the covers during removal. If this happens, unthread the fasteners from the studs and reinsert them into position on the panel covers before reinstalling the panels.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. Regular inspection will help maintain the hitch's safety and performance. If you notice any loose fasteners or damage, retighten or repair immediately.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times while installing this product. Read all instructions thoroughly before beginning. If you are unsure about any step, contact CURT technical support at 800.798.0813 or contact an authorized CURT installer for assistance.
CURT Manufacturing warrants this product to be free of defects in material and workmanship at the time of retail purchase by the original purchaser.
