However you define adventure -- whether it's climbing onto the back of a mountain bike, hunting from the top of a tree stand or camping with the family a long way from nowhere -- CURT class 1 hitches provide a light-duty towing receiver to help you Bring It. Each is made to fit a specific vehicle, providing easier installation, a better fit and optimal towing capacity. Custom class 1 trailer hitches are available for a variety of smaller vehicle types, including the compact car, crossover, minivan and small SUV. This particular class 1 hitch is designed to be a custom hitch for certain years of the Volkswagen Jetta (to verify vehicle compatibility, see the CURT application guide at curtmfg.com). Tested in accordance with SAE J684, it offers a weight carrying capacity of 2,000 lbs. GTW and 200 lbs. TW. It is equipped with 1-1/4" receiver tube opening to accept a ball mount shank or other hitch mount. This class 1 hitch also comes with all necessary mounting hardware. With its lightweight design and smaller receiver tube size, a class 1 hitch is especially useful for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted bike rack or cargo carrier. They can also typically be used to tow small trailers such as a utility trailer, kayak trailer or teardrop camper (never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component; i.e. the vehicle, hitch, trailer, etc). Though CURT class 1 trailer hitches are only intended for light-duty towing, we apply the same principles of quality as we do to the rest of our rear mount hitches. Each class 1 hitch is made with hands-on engineering, high-strength steel and precise welding. We use a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat, inside and out, and durable black powder coat to provide a lasting defense against rust, chips and UV rays.
Installation requires temporarily lowering the exhaust and trimming the heat shield and underbody panel
Trailer hitch weight ratings are limited to vehicle manufacturer's stated capacities
Not compatible for use with vertical hanging bicycles (bike racks that require the bicycles to be hung / mounted vertically)

Yes, CURT part number 11540 is designed for 2019-present Volkswagen Jetta Sedan models. This is a weight-carrying hitch with a maximum trailer weight capacity of 2,000 lbs and tongue weight capacity of 200 lbs. Always verify your vehicle's manufacturer-recommended towing capacity before towing.
CURT hitch 11540 is designed for use with ball mount #45521. Euro mount options are available with either a 1 7/8" ball (#45571) or 2" ball (#45572).
CURT hitch 11540 has a maximum trailer weight capacity of 2,000 lbs and a tongue weight capacity of 200 lbs when used as a weight-carrying hitch. You must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
Required tools are: torque wrench, ratchet, 6" extension, 10mm socket, 13mm socket, 11/16" socket, screwdriver, utility knife, aviation shears, T27 Torx bit, tape measure, and safety glasses. Using proper tools will greatly improve the quality of the install and reduce installation time.
The hitch includes: (4) 7/16-14 UNC grade 8 carriage bolts, 1-1/2" long (part 10-10282); (4) 7/16-14 UNC grade 8 serrated flange nuts (part 20-00103); (4) 0.250 x 0.88 x 2.25" square hole spacers (part CM-SP2); and (4) lengths of 7/16" fishwire (part 7_16 FISHWIRE).
No, drilling is not required. The hitch uses fishwiring to route fasteners through existing access holes in the frame.
Two people may be required to ease installation. If you are hesitant to undertake this task on your own, contact an authorized CURT installer for additional assistance.
Yes, trimming is required. You must trim the heat shield and underbody panel to allow the hitch to fit properly. Specifically: (1) Mark on the heat shield where the hitch will mount and cut as needed for the fasteners to remain in position after heat shield is reinstalled; (2) Trim the passenger side underbody panel as needed before reinstalling it onto the vehicle. A trim diagram is provided in the installation instructions for reference.
Installation sequence is: (1) Remove passenger side underbody panel using T27 Torx bit and 10mm socket; (2) Remove exhaust hanger bolts with 13mm socket and support the exhaust; (3) Remove heat shield and mark/cut for hitch fasteners; (4) Fishwire the carriage bolts and spacers through access slots and reinstall heat shield; (5) Position hitch over muffler and raise exhaust back into position; (6) Loosely install flange nuts and torque all 7/16" fasteners to 59 lb.-ft.; (7) Trim underbody panel and reinstall exhaust hangers.
Fishwire the (4) 7/16" carriage bolts and spacers supplied into position through the access slot as shown in the installation diagram. The access holes are located on both the driver side and passenger side frame rails. After fishwiring the bolts and spacers into position, reinstall the heat shield.
Remove one bolt from each of the exhaust hanger brackets over the muffler using a 13mm socket and support the exhaust. Remove one formed washer nut from the forward underbody panel to allow the exhaust to drop further. When placing the hitch over the muffler, raise the exhaust back into position carefully, ensuring the rearward most exhaust hanger is positioned in the notch on the side plate. Reinstall the exhaust hangers and forward formed washer nut after the hitch is secured.
Torque all 7/16" fasteners to 59 lb.-ft. This includes the 7/16-14 UNC carriage bolts and serrated flange nuts. Fasteners should be loosely installed first, then torqued to specification once the hitch is properly positioned.
Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. CURT hitch 11540 is rated for a maximum of 2,000 lbs trailer weight and 200 lbs tongue weight, but your vehicle's manufacturer may have a lower limit. Always verify your vehicle's towing capacity before towing.
All non-trailer (wheel-less) loads applied to this hitch must be supported by CURT stabilizing straps part number 18050. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty. See the CURT catalog or visit www.curtmfg.com for further information on stabilizing straps.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times while installing this product. Read all instructions thoroughly before beginning installation. Use proper tools to improve the quality of the install and reduce installation time. If you are hesitant to undertake this task on your own, contact an authorized CURT installer for additional assistance.
