When we came to the limits of towing capacity, we wanted to know what else was out there. What could we discover off the beaten path? So, we kept going. CURT class 5 Xtra Duty hitches begin a class of their own, beyond class 4 and beyond anything the standards dictate. They are designed for the hard road where only full-size pickup trucks, vans and SUVs dare to tread. They are capable of pulling almost any heavy-duty trailer, including toy haulers, dump trailers, logging trailers, small yacht trailers and more (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component). This particular Xtra Duty class 5 trailer hitch offers a gross trailer weight capacity of 16,000 lbs. and an extra-high tongue weight capacity of 2,000 lbs. It features a 2" x 2" receiver tube opening to accept a ball mount or hitch-mounted accessory, such as a cargo carrier or winch mount. It is designed to be a custom-fit trailer hitch for certain years of the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 or GMC Sierra 1500 (to verify compatibility with your vehicle, see application info). For a little extra towing power and stability, this class 5 hitch can also be used in combination with a weight distributing hitch. It is rated for 17,000 lbs. WD and 2,000 lbs. WDTW. In our drive to create a more powerful hitch, CURT has not neglected the finer details. Our class 5 trailer hitches are welded with precision and go through multiple stages of cleaning to create a smooth surface that is ready to accept our co-cured finish. To protect them from corrosion, chipping and UV damage, these hitches are immersed in a liquid A-coat and then finished in a high-quality black carbide powder coat. They come with grade-8 mounting hardware for solid installation.

You will need: 10mm socket, 15mm socket, 21mm socket, 7/8" socket, ratchet, 6" extension, and torque wrench. Safety glasses must be worn at all times during installation.
The kit includes: (2) carriage bolts 9/16-12 x 1 3/4, Grade 8; (2) hex flange nuts 9/16-12, Grade 8; and (2) spacers (part number 15307-SP). The installation also reuses existing factory M14 bolts from the vehicle frame.

You may need to temporarily lower the exhaust. If your vehicle has a dual exhaust system, you will need to remove the exhaust hanger bracket on the driver side and remove the hardware from the passenger side exhaust hanger bracket (leaving the bracket on the exhaust hanger). You will also need to remove three hex bolts securing the driver side exhaust bezel. If your vehicle has a single exhaust system, you do not need to perform these steps.
You may need to temporarily lower the spare tire during installation.
Two people may be required to ease installation, though the manual does not state whether a second person is strictly necessary.
Professional installation time is approximately 64 minutes. Novice (DIY) installation time is approximately 120 minutes.
The factory M14 bolts must be torqued to 126 ft-lbs.
The 9/16" carriage bolts must be torqued to 130 ft-lbs.
1. Using a 15mm socket, remove the exhaust hanger bracket on the driver side. Remove the passenger side exhaust hanger bracket hardware but leave the bracket on the exhaust hanger. 2. Using a 10mm socket, locate and remove the three hex bolts securing the driver side exhaust bezel and save them for reinstallation. 3. Remove the two existing hex bolts from the frame on both sides of the vehicle. 4. Raise the hitch into position and loosely secure the side plates to the frame using the factory hardware, moving the exhaust out of the way if necessary. 5. Insert two 9/16" carriage bolts and 15307-SP spacers through the factory safety chain plate and top plate of the hitch, securing them with two 9/16" hex flange nuts. 6. Torque the factory hardware to 126 ft-lbs and the 9/16" hardware to 130 ft-lbs. 7. Reinstall the exhaust hanger brackets and bezel removed in steps 1 and 2.
