Yes, the CURT 11578 is designed for 2021-current Kia Seltos crossovers. Confirm your vehicle year and model match before purchasing.
The CURT 11578 is rated for a maximum of 2,000 lbs trailer weight and 200 lbs tongue weight when used as a weight-carrying hitch. You must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower.
No. All non-trailer (wheel-less) loads applied to this hitch must be supported by CURT part number 18050 stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty. See the CURT catalog or www.curtmfg.com for further information on the 18050 straps.
You will need: 11/16" socket, 10mm socket, ratchet, torque wrench, 6" socket extension, marker, cutoff tool, flat head screwdriver, tape measure, and safety glasses. Proper tools will greatly improve the quality of the install and reduce installation time.
No. The CURT 11578 requires no drilling. Installation uses existing access holes in the frame rails and the fishwire technique to route hardware through the frame.
Two people may be required to ease installation. If you are hesitant to undertake this task on your own, contact an authorized CURT installer for additional assistance, or call technical support at 877-287-8634.
The installation is rated as moderate difficulty. The manual recommends reading all instructions thoroughly before beginning and using proper tools to improve the quality of the install.
Yes. You must remove the underbody panel on the passenger side of the vehicle using a 10mm socket and flat head screwdriver to remove one nut and two plastic clips. Save the hardware and panel for reinstallation after the hitch is installed.
Yes. You must lower the exhaust by disconnecting two rubber isolators on the vehicle muffler. Be sure to support the exhaust to prevent damage during this step. The exhaust hangers are reinstalled in the final steps.
The fishwire technique routes the mounting hardware through the frame rails. You thread three 7/16" carriage bolts and spacers through the access hole in each frame rail (passenger and driver side) using the 7/16" fishwire, leaving the hardware inside the frame rails with wires attached. The wires are then pulled to draw the hardware through the hitch mounting holes. This allows fastening without drilling.
After fishwiring the hardware through the frame rails, raise the hitch into position. Then pull the fishwires and hardware through the mounting holes in the hitch. Remove the fishwire from one bolt at a time and install the 7/16" hex flange nut by hand, repeating for all bolts before final torquing.
All fasteners must be torqued to 59 lb-ft using a torque wrench.
Yes. You must trim the underbody panel to provide clearance around the hitch. The manual provides reference dimensions of 3.00 inches and 1.75 inches, but notes these are reference only. Trim only as much as is needed to provide clearance. Use a cutoff tool for this step.
The kit includes: 6 bolts (7/16-14 UNC, 1-1/4", grade 8, yellow zinc, part 10-10281); 6 serrated flange nuts (7/16-14 UNC, grade 8, yellow zinc, part 20-00103); 6 pieces of 7/16" fishwire (part 7_16 FISHWIRE); and 6 spacer plates (0.25", A36 HRS, part 403020-SP).
After installation, verify that all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. The manual recommends periodically checking the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners remain tight and structural components remain sound during the life of the product.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times while installing this product. When lowering the exhaust, be sure to support it to prevent damage. When installing fasteners, use caution to not allow hardware to fall into the frame rails. If you are hesitant to undertake this task, contact an authorized CURT installer.
You should periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. The manual does not specify an exact interval, but recommends regular inspection throughout the life of the product.
