However you define adventure -- whether it's climbing onto the back of a mountain bike, hunting from the top of a tree stand or camping with the family a long way from nowhere -- CURT class 1 hitches provide a light-duty towing receiver to help you Bring It. Each is made to fit a specific vehicle, providing easier installation, a better fit and optimal towing capacity. Custom class 1 trailer hitches are available for a variety of smaller vehicle types, including the compact car, crossover, minivan and small SUV. This particular class 1 hitch is designed to be a custom hitch for certain years of the Subaru Impreza (to verify vehicle compatibility, see the CURT application guide at curtmfg.com). Tested in accordance with SAE J684, it offers a weight carrying capacity of 2,000 lbs. GTW and 200 lbs. TW. It is equipped with 1-1/4" receiver tube opening to accept a ball mount shank or other hitch mount. This class 1 hitch also comes with all necessary mounting hardware. With its lightweight design and smaller receiver tube size, a class 1 hitch is especially useful for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted bike rack or cargo carrier. They can also typically be used to tow small trailers such as a utility trailer, kayak trailer or teardrop camper (never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component; i.e. the vehicle, hitch, trailer, etc). Though CURT class 1 trailer hitches are only intended for light-duty towing, we apply the same principles of quality as we do to the rest of our rear mount hitches. Each class 1 hitch is made with hands-on engineering, high-strength steel and precise welding. We use a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat, inside and out, and durable black powder coat to provide a lasting defense against rust, chips and UV rays.
If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Subaru Impreza (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. You have a picture in mind of your next destination -- maybe it's the boat landing at your favorite fishing spot, maybe it's a campsite that overlooks one of nature's masterpieces, or maybe it's the next big jobsite. However, turning that picture into a reality takes more than just daydreaming. It takes a solid connection and the right amount of power. CURT custom wiring is made with some of the most sophisticated technology in the industry and is designed to install with ease, giving you a long-lasting electrical connection for your towing hitch setup.

Signal circuits are rated at 3.0 amps per side. Tail and running circuits are rated at 6.0 amps total. Do not exceed these ratings or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower, as exceeding the product rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
You will need: ratchet, 10mm socket, Phillips screwdriver, flat blade screwdriver, panel trim removal tool, wire crimper, cutting tool, and side cutter.
The manual does not specify whether the battery must be disconnected before installation. Contact the manufacturer or consult your vehicle owner's manual for guidance on safe electrical work procedures.
Drilling may be required. Step 10 instructs you to locate an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame for the ground wire, or drill a 3/32" pilot hole if no suitable existing fastener is available. Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items hidden behind or under surfaces to avoid damage and personal injury.
Drill a 3/32" pilot hole if a suitable existing screw with nut is not available in the vehicle frame near the connector. The area should be free of rust, dirt and paint before securing the white ground wire with the ring terminal and provided screw.
Yes. In Step 7, you must locate the grommet behind the taillight where the vehicle taillight wiring passes from inside the cabin to the taillight, remove it, and cut a slit large enough to route the custom wiring harness through. In Step 9, you must reseat the grommet using the provided sealant to seal the cut and around all wires.
The harness end with the yellow wire connects to the driver side taillight. Route this end out through the grommet opening and insert it between the separated taillight connectors, ensuring the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
The harness end with the green wire connects to the passenger side taillight. Route this end to the passenger side behind the removed scuff panel and repeat the driver side installation steps (4-9) using the green wire end.
On the outside of the vehicle, locate and remove the two 10mm fasteners securing the taillight. Remove the taillight by gently pulling rearward and out. Set it aside. Behind the removed taillight, locate the vehicle taillight wiring harness connectors and separate them from the taillight housing, taking care not to damage the locking tabs.
The white wire is the ground wire. Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame, or drill a 3/32" pilot hole. Secure the white ground wire using the ring terminal and provided screw. The area should be free of rust, dirt and paint.
Locate a flat spot inside the vehicle near the taillight and adhere the black converter box using the provided double-sided tape.
The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a maximum 10-amp fuse. Exceeding this rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
Route the black power wire from the vehicle battery as shown on the included CME-PCL-INS sheet. The manual does not provide routing details in this document; refer to the included CME-PCL-INS sheet for specific instructions.
When not in use, roll up the 4-flat connector and store it in a convenient, out-of-the-way location inside the trunk. When in use, route the 4-flat to the center of the vehicle and out of the trunk. Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties.
Test for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer. All steps must be followed to ensure the wiring harness will function properly.
After routing the custom wiring harness through the grommet, reseat the grommet using the provided sealant to seal the cut in the grommet and around all the wires. This prevents water and debris from entering the vehicle.
The provided cable ties are used to secure any loose wires during installation. They are used in Step 9 to secure loose wires after reseating the grommet, and again in Step 14 to secure loose wires when routing the 4-flat connector.
The provided 4-flat dust cover helps prevent corrosion of the connector. Install it after completing the wiring harness installation.

The kit includes: 2× carriage bolt 7/16"-14 x 1-1/2", 2× carriage bolt 1/2"-13 x 1-1/2", 2× serrated-flange nut 1/2"-13, 2× serrated-flange nut 7/16"-14, 2× square-hole spacer .250" x 1.00" x 3.00", 2× square-hole spacer .250" x 1.00" x 2.50", and 2× round-hole spacer .250" x 1.00" x 2.00". Fishwire is also included (2 qty of 7/16" and 2 qty of 1/2").
Yes. Remove the four (4) plugs in the frame rails and return them to the vehicle owner. Leave the center plugs installed.
Yes. The installation may require access hole enlargement. Use a die grinder to enlarge the access hole as necessary to accommodate the fishwire and hardware during installation.
The fishwire technique uses included wire tools to guide bolts and spacers through the vehicle frame rails without losing them inside the frame. Attach the fishwire to the carriage bolt, pass it through the mounting hole and access hole, thread the bolt into the coil, kink the wire to separate the spacer from the bolt, then pull the fishwire, spacer, and bolt back through the frame and out the mounting hole. This prevents hardware loss and guides proper hitch alignment.
Install in this sequence: (1) Fishwire the 7/16" carriage bolts (#1) and 1.00" x 2.50" spacers (#6) into position first. (2) Reverse fishwire the 1/2" carriage bolts (#2) and 1.00" x 3.00" spacers (#5) into position afterward. This order ensures proper alignment and prevents hardware interference.
Raise the hitch to the frame while feeding the fishwire through the hitch mounting holes. Align the mounting holes with the bolts protruding from the frame. Remove the fishwires once bolts are in place, being careful not to push hardware into the frame. Use the 1.50" x 2.00" (#7) spacers to level the hitch as necessary. Then secure the 7/16" (#1) and 1/2" (#2) flange nuts on their respective bolts.
Using an 11/16" socket, torque all 7/16" fasteners to 59 ft-lbs. Using a 3/4" socket, torque all 1/2" fasteners to 110 ft-lbs.
Periodic inspection of the trailer hitch should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight and structural components are secure. To help prevent damage to the product or vehicle, refer to the specified torque specifications when securing hardware.
Safety glasses should be worn at all times while installing this product. Never exceed the vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. Be careful not to push hardware into the frame when removing the fishwire.
