Draw-Tite has designed custom-fit trailer hitches since 1946 and is one of North America's most widely fitted hitch brands. Receiver hitches use solid all-welded construction and low-profile designs that follow modern vehicle contours, install with minimal bumper cutting or drilling, meet or exceed V5 CSA and SAE J684 standards, and carry a limited lifetime warranty.
Draw-Tite has been leading custom-fit trailer hitch design and engineering since its founding in 1946, and it remains one of the most widely fitted hitch brands in North America. The company's stated approach is straightforward: every hitch is tested rigorously so that it performs well beyond published industry standards, a philosophy it markets as Tested Tough. It sits within the Horizon Global towing group alongside Reese, Fulton, Bulldog, Tekonsha, Bargman and Wesbar.
Custom fit is the defining characteristic. Rather than adapting a universal design, Draw-Tite engineers a trailer hitch for a specific make, model and model year, so it bolts to existing frame locations with minimal bumper cutting or drilling. Low-profile designs follow the rear contours and aerodynamic styling of modern vehicles, which matters more than it once did now that rear fascias are shaped and sensor-equipped. Construction is solid all-welded steel for maximum strength, and every hitch meets or exceeds V5 CSA and SAE J684 standards and is backed by a nationwide limited lifetime warranty.
The range spans receiver sizes and classes to suit different loads, from 1-1/4 inch receivers for bike racks, cargo carriers and light trailers up through 2 inch receivers for heavier towing. Front mount hitches add a receiver at the front of the vehicle for winch mounts, snow plows, spare carriers and precise trailer positioning.
The Hidden Hitch series takes concealment further by mounting behind the vehicle's rear fascia, so the vehicle keeps its factory appearance until a removable receiver is fitted. Each is custom designed per make and model for a no-drill installation that does not compromise ground clearance, rated for up to 3,500 pounds gross trailer weight and 350 pounds tongue weight. Matching plug-and-play wiring completes the towing system.

The 4491 is a gooseneck hitch mounting kit designed for Ford F-150 trucks. It provides the frame-mounted brackets, cross members, and fasteners needed to install a gooseneck hitch head (such as the 9465, 9475, 6300, 630044, or 8339 models). The kit does not include the hitch head itself—that is purchased separately.
Yes, the 4491 is designed for Ford F-150 trucks with 5.5', 6.5', and 8' beds. The installation procedure is the same for all three bed lengths. For Hide-A-Goose models (9465/9475), the bed hole is drilled 43-1/8 inches from the rear of the bed regardless of bed length.
Yes, but a section of the bed liner must be cut away so the gooseneck hitch can contact the bed corrugations. This applies to 6300/630044 and 8339 models. For Hide-A-Goose models (9465/9475), the manual does not mention bed liner modification, but you should verify clearance before installation.
The 4491F kit includes: 4× carriage bolts (1/2-13 GR5), 4× flat washers (5/8"), 2× blocks (1/4" × 1.50" × 3.00"), 6× lock washers (5/8"), 2× blocks (1/2" × 1.50" × 2.25"), 6× hex nuts (5/8"), 4× conical tooth lock washers (1/2"), 2× round blocks (1/4" × 2.25" diameter), 4× hex nuts (1/2"), and 2× hex bolts (5/8-11 × 1.25 GR5). For 6300/630044/8339 models, additional fasteners are included: 8× shims (3/16" × 1.00" × 2.00"), 4× lock washers (1/2"), and 4× flat washers (5/8").
For Hide-A-Goose (9465/9475) installation: wrenches (3/4", 7/8", 15/16"), 1/4" drill bit, drill, and pull wire (provided). For 6300/630044/8339 installation: wrenches (13mm, 3/4", 7/8", 15/16"), drill bits (1/4", 5/8"), drill, saber saw, and pull wire (provided). A hole saw is also needed for Hide-A-Goose to enlarge the pilot hole to final diameter.
Yes, this is critical. All Ford F-150 trucks have fuel lines, brake lines, and electrical wiring located along the frame where the mounting kit installs. Before installation, carefully examine the location of these systems and ensure you do not damage them when positioning hitch components, drilling holes, cutting sheet metal, or tightening fasteners.
Yes. Before installing the hitch, check for adequate clearance between the gooseneck trailer and the rear of the cab and the rear of the truck box. This ensures the trailer will not contact the vehicle during towing.
Yes. For Hide-A-Goose (9465/9475) models, a 1/4" pilot hole must be drilled in the bed 43-1/8 inches from the rear, then enlarged to final diameter using a hole saw. For 6300/630044/8339 models, multiple 5/8" holes must be drilled through the bed, and the bed must be cut to create an opening for the hitch. A wood or metal shield must be placed between the frame and fuel tank to prevent puncturing the fuel tank when the drill breaks through the bed.
For Hide-A-Goose (9465/9475) models, mark and drill a 1/4" pilot hole 43-1/8 inches from the rear of the bed and centered between the wheel wells. This applies to all bed lengths (5.5', 6.5', and 8'). Enlarge the pilot hole to final diameter using a hole saw. Refer to the 9465/9475 hitch instruction sheet for the final hole size. Prime and paint raw metal edges.
Yes. For 6300/630044 and 8339 models, the truck bed must be cut to create an opening for the hitch. A template (part number 5978 for 6300/630044, 114234 or 6425 for 8339) is provided with the gooseneck hitch. Drill 1/4" pilot holes, then use a saber saw to cut out the opening. File edges, prime, and paint as needed. If the vehicle has a bed liner, a section must be cut away so the hitch contacts the bed corrugations.
Yes, isolator tape must be applied to separate steel from aluminum and prevent corrosion. For 6300/630044/8339 models: apply isolator tape to the top side of the cross members (cut to length), cut the tape over bolt holes, apply tape around the bottom perimeter of the gooseneck plate, and apply tape to 4 of the 8 shims that contact the truck bed. For Hide-A-Goose models: apply isolator strip to the top side of the cross member and bolt heads, cutting to length as needed.
Torque specifications vary by fastener type and hitch model. For Hide-A-Goose (9465/9475): torque hitch fasteners to cross members to 212 ft.-lb. (287 N·m); torque 5/8-11 GR5 fasteners attaching cross members to brackets to 150 ft.-lb. (203 N·m); torque 1/2-13 GR5 fasteners attaching brackets to frame rail to 75 ft.-lb. (102 N·m). For 6300/630044/8339: torque 5/8-11 GR5 fasteners attaching forward cross member to brackets to 150 ft.-lb. (203 N·m); torque 1/2-13 GR5 fasteners attaching brackets to frame rails to 75 ft.-lb. (102 N·m); torque 5/8" carriage bolts through hitch to 150 ft.-lb.; torque 5/8" hex nuts attaching rearward cross member to brackets to 150 ft.-lb. (203 N·m).
The 5/8" jam nuts on the U-bolts are tightened until 3 threads are visible past the bottom of the jam nut. This is not a torque value but a thread-count specification to ensure proper tension without over-tightening.
The manual does not specify a towing capacity for the 4491 itself. Instead, it states: "Under no circumstances do we recommend exceeding the towing vehicle manufacturer's recommended vehicle towing capacity." You must consult your Ford F-150 owner's manual or the manufacturer's specifications for your specific truck model year to determine the maximum towing capacity.
Before each tow, check the following: (1) the ball is fully locked, (2) the ball and ball sleeve (or ball pocket for 6300/630044/8339) are well lubricated, (3) the ball, hitch coupler, safety chains, and other connections are in proper working order. These checks ensure safe operation and prevent hitch failure during towing.
The manual states to "periodically re-torque all the hitch fasteners" but does not specify an exact interval. Consult the hitch head manufacturer's instructions (9465, 9475, 6300, 630044, or 8339) for a recommended re-torque schedule, or contact Reese Products for guidance.
Keep the ball and ball sleeve (for 9465/9475) or ball pocket (for 6300/630044/8339) well lubricated. The manual does not specify the type of lubricant or lubrication frequency; consult the hitch head manufacturer's instructions for specific maintenance guidance.
Yes, the 4491 is designed for Ford F-150 trucks with 5.5', 6.5', and 8' beds. Verify your truck bed length and confirm the hitch head model (9465, 9475, 6300, 630044, or 8339) is compatible with your truck before purchase.
You need the 4491F fastener kit, which includes all bolts, washers, nuts, and blocks required for installation. The kit contents differ slightly between Hide-A-Goose (9465/9475) and 6300/630044/8339 models.
For Hide-A-Goose: hitch fasteners to cross members 212 ft.-lb. (287 N·m); cross members to brackets 150 ft.-lb. (203 N·m); brackets to frame 75 ft.-lb. (102 N·m). For 6300/630044/8339: cross members to brackets 150 ft.-lb. (203 N·m); brackets to frame 75 ft.-lb. (102 N·m); carriage bolts through hitch 150 ft.-lb.
The manual does not specify a capacity. You must not exceed your Ford F-150 manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. Consult your truck's owner's manual for the maximum towing capacity.
Before each tow: (1) ensure the ball is fully locked, (2) verify the ball and sleeve/pocket are lubricated, (3) check the ball, coupler, safety chains, and connections for proper operation.
Fuel lines, brake lines, and electrical wiring run along the frame. Inspect their location before drilling or cutting. A fuel tank or other components may be below some holes—use a wood or metal shield to prevent puncturing the fuel tank when drilling breaks through the bed.
This indicates that the U-block shims (part number 5971) were not properly installed before tightening. The shims must be placed between the hitch and bed or between the bed and cross member (whichever provides best support) to prevent bed corrugation collapse. If collapse has occurred, loosen the bolts, install the shims with isolator tape oriented toward the bed, and re-tighten to 150 ft.-lb.
For Hide-A-Goose models: verify that the pilot hole was drilled 43-1/8 inches from the rear of the bed and centered between the wheel wells. Ensure the hole was enlarged to the correct final diameter as specified in the 9465/9475 hitch instruction sheet. For 6300/630044/8339 models: verify that the template was properly oriented toward the front of the vehicle before marking holes. Check that the rearward cross member is aligned with the 5/8" drilled holes before installing fasteners. If misalignment persists, consult the hitch head manufacturer's instructions.
Periodically re-torque all hitch fasteners. The manual does not specify an exact interval, but recommends periodic re-torque to maintain proper clamping force. If fasteners continue to loosen, verify that all fasteners were torqued to the correct specification: Hide-A-Goose hitch fasteners to 212 ft.-lb. (287 N·m), cross member to bracket fasteners to 150 ft.-lb. (203 N·m), and bracket to frame fasteners to 75 ft.-lb. (102 N·m). Ensure lock washers and conical tooth lock washers are properly installed to resist loosening.
The manual does not provide troubleshooting for hitch head locking issues. Consult the instruction sheet for your specific hitch head model (9465, 9475, 6300, 630044, or 8339) for locking mechanism troubleshooting. Ensure the ball is fully locked before towing and verify that the ball and ball sleeve/pocket are well lubricated.
The Hide-A-Goose is a gooseneck hitch assembly (part numbers 9488/9475) designed for pickup trucks to tow gooseneck trailers. It has a maximum Gross Trailer Weight (GTW) rating of 30,000 lbs (13,620 kg) and a maximum Tongue Weight (TW) rating of 7,500 lbs (3,405 kg). Do not exceed the lower of your towing vehicle manufacturer's rating or the fastener kit rating.
Yes. The Hide-A-Goose is intended to be used with Horizon Global manufactured mounting kits. When installed with these kits, the gooseneck hitch installation instructions are included as part of the mounting kit installation instructions. If Horizon Global mounting kits are not used, the product becomes a general application product, and the installer is responsible for selecting structurally safe materials and locations for attachment.
Yes. On Chevy/GMC 2500/3500 trucks, the 5/8" uneven U-bolt must be installed with the short leg forward on the driver's side. This orientation provides extra room for the fuel tank and related components.
You will need: a 15/16" wrench, a 3/16" drill bit, a 5/8" drill bit, and a 3.5" hole saw. A torque wrench is also required to tighten the 5/8" grade 8 fasteners to 210 lb.-ft. (285 N·m).
The kit includes: 1 head, 1 uneven 5/8" U-bolt with 2.5" and 3" legs, 4 carriage bolts (5/8"-11 x 2.00 Grade 8), 4 conical toothed washers, 4 conical toothed washers (second set), 4 hex nuts (5/8"-11), 4 lock nuts (5/8"-18), 1 handle, 1 2-5/16" ball, 1 spring clip, 1 vinyl handle, 1 5/8" U-bolt with 3" legs, 4 U-bolt springs, and 1 magnetic cover. A Draw-Tite brand label is also supplied.
Before installation, verify: (1) the hitch ball will be located along the truck's fore/aft centerline; (2) the ball centerline will be above and forward of the rear axle; (3) adequate clearance exists between the gooseneck trailer and the rear of the vehicle during turning; (4) adequate clearance exists between the forward corners of the trailer and the cab; and (5) the ball position and under-vehicle supports do not interfere with cross members, brake lines, electrical wiring, cables, fuel lines, or vents.
1. Mark the hitch ball center on the truck bed. 2. Center punch and drill a 3/16" pilot hole, then recheck clearances. 3. Enlarge the pilot hole with a 3.5" hole saw and file edges as needed. 4. Lift the head into position. 5. Use 5/8" conical toothed washers and hex nuts to install the head, but do not tighten completely at this time. 6. Align the ball sleeve on the head with the 3.5" hole in the bed and tighten the 5/8" fasteners.
1. Using the U-bolt slots as a guide, drill four 5/8" holes in the truck bed. These holes must be in lower bed corrugations to limit the amount of U-bolt showing above the bed. 2. Touch up the drilled holes with paint. 3. Install the U-bolts from the inside of the bed. 4. From under the truck, install the conical toothed washers, U-bolt springs, and 5/8" lock nuts. 5. Before tightening the lock nuts, lift the U-bolts up and down to ensure smooth operation; if not smooth, enlarge the holes as necessary. 6. Tighten the nuts so a minimum of 3 threads are showing past the nuts.
Yes. Drilling is required in three locations: (1) a 3/16" pilot hole at the marked hitch ball center, enlarged to 3.5" with a hole saw; (2) four 5/8" holes in the truck bed for the U-bolts, positioned in lower bed corrugations. Do not cut holes with a torch. File edges of the 3.5" hole as needed and touch up all drilled holes with paint.
All 5/8" grade 8 fasteners (excluding U-bolt fasteners) must be tightened with a torque wrench to 210 lb.-ft. (285 N·m). For U-bolt lock nuts, tighten them so a minimum of 3 threads are showing past the nuts. Check bolt torque monthly after installation.
If not installing the head on a Horizon Global manufactured mounting kit, you must secure the hitch to your mounting system using four holes in the front and back of the hitch and four 5/8" grade 8 bolts (not provided). This is in addition to the four vertical bolts provided in the kit and will allow you to obtain the maximum head rating of 30,000 lbs GTW / 7,500 lbs TW.
Connect the trailer following the coupler manufacturer's operating instructions, ensuring about 6" of clearance between the bottom of the trailer nose and the top of the pickup bed sides. Slowly back the trailer to a jackknifed position while checking for adequate clearance between the gooseneck trailer and the rear of the vehicle, and between the forward corners of the trailer and the cab. Slowly jackknife the truck and trailer in the opposite direction and check clearances to the end of the truck and the cab.
Check for clearance between the ball in its stored position and truck equipment (differential, brake lines, electrical lines, etc.) by measuring from the axle up to the rubber bumper stop and from the ball to the nearest item. If insufficient space is present, do not store the ball in the head when carrying heavy loads. The axle-to-rubber-bumper-stop distance should be less than the ball-to-nearest-item distance.
Use the magnetic cover to keep the assembly free of dirt and debris. Lubricate the hitch ball monthly or as needed with heavy grease. Lubricate the ball tube with heavy grease when the ball is installed and/or removed. Lubricate the locking pin monthly or as needed with spray-on penetrating oil. Check bolt torque monthly. Check all equipment before towing for worn or damaged parts and replace them immediately.
Observe safety precautions when working beneath a vehicle and wear eye protection. Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch. If the hitch is removed, plug all holes in the trunk pan or other body panels to prevent entry of water and exhaust fumes. A hitch or ball that has been damaged should be removed and replaced immediately.
After installation, check the hitch frequently to ensure all fasteners and the ball are properly tightened. Before towing, verify clearances between the gooseneck trailer and the rear of the vehicle, and between the forward corners of the trailer and the cab, by slowly jackknifing the trailer in both directions. Check equipment before towing for worn or damaged parts.
The Hide-A-Goose is designed for pickup trucks with gooseneck trailers. Chevy/GMC 2500/3500 trucks require the U-bolt short leg forward on the driver's side. Verify clearance between the trailer and the rear of your vehicle and between the trailer corners and your cab before installation. Consult the mounting kit instructions or the manufacturer for specific vehicle compatibility.
You need a 15/16" wrench, 3/16" and 5/8" drill bits, a 3.5" hole saw, and a torque wrench. Drilling is required for the head (3.5" hole) and four U-bolt mounting holes (5/8" each).
Tighten all 5/8" grade 8 fasteners (excluding U-bolt fasteners) to 210 lb.-ft. (285 N·m) with a torque wrench. For U-bolt lock nuts, tighten until a minimum of 3 threads show past the nuts. Check torque monthly.
Verify the ball will be on the truck's centerline and above/forward of the rear axle. Confirm adequate clearance between the trailer and the rear of the vehicle during turning, and between the trailer corners and the cab. Ensure the ball position and supports do not interfere with cross members, brake lines, electrical wiring, fuel lines, or vents.
Connect the trailer with about 6" clearance between the trailer nose and the pickup bed. Slowly jackknife the trailer in both directions to verify adequate clearance between the trailer and the rear of the vehicle and between the trailer corners and the cab. Check all equipment for worn or damaged parts.
Lubricate the ball and locking pin monthly or as needed. Check bolt torque monthly. Use the magnetic cover to keep the assembly clean. Check all equipment before towing for worn or damaged parts and replace immediately.
If the U-bolts do not move smoothly during the test lift before final tightening, enlarge the four 5/8" holes in the truck bed as necessary. Once smooth operation is confirmed, proceed to tighten the lock nuts so a minimum of 3 threads are showing past the nuts.
