No. The installation of this kit does not alter the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) or payload of the vehicle. You must not exceed the maximum load listed in the vehicle's owner's manual.
Perform a clearance test at 75–90 PSI, leak test at 75–90 PSI, heat test (minimum 6" clearance from heat sources), fastener test (recheck all bolts for proper torque), and a 10-mile road test. Check for clearance, loose fasteners, and air leaks after the road test.
Check air pressure weekly. After 24 hours of initial operation, recheck pressure; a 2–4 PSI (0.14–0.28 BAR) loss is normal. If loss exceeds 5 PSI (0.34 BAR), retest for leaks.

The manual states the kit is for vehicles with leaf springs. The installation procedure requires removal of coil springs on the Dodge/RAM 1500, but the kit is recommended for 3/4- and 1-ton pickups and SUVs with leaf springs. Compatibility with other suspension types is not addressed in the manual.
Yes. To install the upper frame brackets, you must lift the vehicle, support it with jack stands, remove the rear wheels, mark the coil springs and lower spring seat mounts with chalk or paint marker, remove both lower shock bolts, and carefully lower the axle to remove the coil springs. After installing the frame brackets, the coil springs are reinstalled.
Yes. You must remove both jounce bumpers from both sides of the vehicle. Then grind off the welds that attach the jounce bumper cups to the jounce bumper frame bracket and grind the remaining welds flush to the frame. After grinding, spray the bare frame surface with paint or undercoating.
1. Set a roll plate onto the air spring with the rounded edge toward the spring. 2. Install the swivel fitting into the top of the air spring finger tight plus 1½ turns. 3. Insert four carriage bolts into the upper air spring bracket and set the bracket onto the air spring assembly. 4. Attach the upper bracket using two 3/8" hex-head bolts, two lock washers, and two flat washers, torqued to no more than 20 lb.-ft. (27 Nm). 5. Flip the assembly upside down and set another roll plate over the air spring. 6. Position the assembly so fittings face outboard. 7. Attach the left or right lower bracket with two 3/8" flat-head screws, torqued to no more than 20 lb.-ft. (27 Nm).
1. Index a 3/8" carriage bolt into the opening on the front of the driver's side assembly. 2. Drop the axle to gain clearance. 3. Set the left assembly into position with the carriage bolt in the slot, making sure the back of the bracket hooks below the jounce bumper strike plate. Push forward to line up the carriage bolt with the existing hole in the front of the lower jounce bumper strike plate. Cap with a 3/8" serrated lock nut but leave loose. 4. Insert another 3/8" carriage bolt through the remaining hole in the front of the bracket. 5. Use a socket with extension to reach the inside threads. 6. Install the right assembly the same way, using the slot in the lower bracket for the carriage bolt. 7. Torque both sides to 31 lb.-ft. (42 Nm). 8. Raise the axle and align the air spring mounting plate carriage bolts with the frame bracket holes. 9. Cap all carriage bolts with 3/8" serrated lock nuts and torque to 31 lb.-ft. (42 Nm).
The M8 socket-head bolt (part M) is used as a line-up tool to ensure the upper frame bracket is aligned properly. It is inserted into the frame bracket slot closest to the flange and indexes into the existing hole in the frame that was under the stock jounce bumper. The bolt head points in the same direction as the flange on the bracket. The bolt remains in place but requires no additional tightening after alignment.
You must drill 1/4" holes in the frame for the self-tapping screws that secure the frame brackets. The manual recommends using a 21/64" (or closest) centering punch to fit into the existing hole and center-punch the frame for an exact center before drilling.
Drill a 5/16" (8 mm) hole for the Schrader valve location. The manual recommends choosing locations inside the fuel tank filler door, inside rear wheel wells, or in the license plate or rear bumper area (rear bumper area is recommended for Ultimate Plus kits).

Use zip ties to secure the air line to fixed points along the chassis without pinching or kinking it. The minimum bend radius is 1" (25 mm). 3. Leave at least 2" (51 mm) of slack to allow for movement. 4. Keep at least 6" (152 mm) of clearance from the exhaust system. 5. Install the Schrader valve in the chosen location.

The minimum bend radius for nylon air lines is 1" (25 mm). Avoid sharp bends and edges. The braided stainless steel air line cannot be trimmed and should be coiled and secured in an area where it will not be susceptible to damage.
Keep at least 6" (152 mm) of clearance between all air lines and the exhaust system. If a heat shield is included in the kit, install it. Slide the air line thermal sleeve over the air line and place it where the air line is closest to the exhaust, maintaining at least 1/2" (13 mm) of dead air space.
No. The braided stainless steel air line cannot be trimmed. Any excess air line should be coiled and secured in an area where it will not be susceptible to damage.

1. Inflate the air spring to 30 PSI (2 BAR). 2. Spray all connections and inflation valves with a solution of 1/5 liquid dish soap and 4/5 water. 3. Look for bubbles in the soapy water to spot leaks. 4. After the test, deflate the springs to the minimum pressure required to restore normal ride height (no lower than 5 PSI [0.34 BAR]). 5. Check air pressure again after 24 hours. A 2–4 PSI (0.14–0.28 BAR) loss is normal. If loss exceeds 5 PSI (0.34 BAR), retest for leaks.
Inflate the air springs to 75–90 PSI (5.2–6.2 BAR) and ensure at least 1/2" clearance from anything that might rub against each sleeve. Check the tire, brakes, frame, shock absorbers, and brake cables. If any part shows signs of rubbing or abrasion after 30 days or 500 miles (800 km), identify and move the source if possible, or remount the air spring.
Loaded vehicles require at least 25 PSI (1.7 BAR). A "loaded vehicle" refers to a vehicle with a heavy bed load, a trailer, or both. The springs support approximately 40 pounds of load (combined on both springs) for each 1 PSI (0.07 BAR) of pressure. Never exceed the vehicle's GVWR regardless of air spring pressure.
When increasing load, always adjust air pressure to maintain normal ride height. Increase or decrease pressure as necessary to attain normal ride height for optimal ride and handling. Remember that loads carried behind the axle (including tongue loads) require more leveling force (pressure) than those carried directly over the axle. It may be necessary to maintain different pressures on each side of the vehicle; a 50 PSI (3.5 BAR) difference is not uncommon.
Always add air to springs in small quantities, checking the pressure frequently. Start with the vehicle level or slightly above. When in doubt, always add air. Use any type of compressor that can produce sufficient pressure to service the springs; even a bicycle tire pump can be used, though it requires significant effort.
The vehicle can be lifted on a hoist for short-term service work such as tire rotation or oil changes. However, if the vehicle will be on the hoist for a prolonged period, support the axle with jack stands to take the tension off the air springs. When raising the vehicle by the frame for service, make sure the system is at minimum pressure (5 PSI [0.34 BAR]) to reduce tension on suspension and brake components.
On occasion, give the air springs a hard spray with a garden hose to remove mud, sand, gravel, or other debris.
Gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) is the maximum allowable weight of the fully loaded vehicle, including passengers and cargo. This number is shown on the vehicle's Safety Compliance Certification Label along with tire, rim size, and inflation pressure data. Payload is the combined maximum allowable weight of cargo and passengers that the truck is designed to carry, calculated as GVWR minus the base curb weight.
No. The installation of the kit does not alter the GVWR or payload of the vehicle. You must not exceed the maximum load listed in the vehicle's owner's manual. Exceeding the GVWR is dangerous and voids the Air Lift warranty.
Never inflate beyond 100 PSI (6.9 BAR). Although the air springs are rated at a maximum inflation pressure of 100 PSI (6.9 BAR), the air pressure actually needed is dependent on load and GVWR. Always maintain normal ride height and do not exceed the vehicle's GVWR.
Check for an improperly installed air line, holes, or cracks. Leak test the air line connections, the threaded connection into the air spring, and all fittings in the control system. Check to make sure air lines are seated in connectors. Inspect fittings with soapy water. Trim the hose or re-seal the fitting. Ensure lines are cut straight.
Look for a kink or fold in the air line. Replace any air line that has been kinked.
1. Check the air line connection by deflating the spring and removing the line by pulling the collar against the fitting and pulling firmly on the air line. 2. Trim 1" (25 mm) off the end of the air line, making sure the cut is clean and square. 3. Reinsert the air line into the push-to-connect fitting. 4. If it still leaks, deflate the air spring, remove the fitting, and re-coat the threads with thread sealant. 5. Reinstall by hand tightening as much as possible and then use a wrench for an additional two turns.
1. Check the valve core by tightening it with a valve core tool. 2. Check the air line by removing the air line from the barbed type fitting. 3. Cut the air line off a few inches in front of the fitting and use pliers or vice grips to pull/twist the air line off the fitting. Do not cut off the air line completely, as this will usually nick the barb and render the fitting useless.
If the air springs are properly installed and maintained, they can last indefinitely.
No. Air pressure can be adjusted with any type of compressor as long as it can produce sufficient pressure to service the springs. Even a bicycle tire pump can be used, but it requires significant effort.
For LoadLifter 5000 standard, Ultimate, and Ultimate Plus, the recommended minimum air pressure is 5 PSI (0.34 BAR), but the system can safely be run at zero air pressure when unladen (no load).
If it is suspected that the air bags have bottomed out, increase the pressure. Bottoming out indicates insufficient air pressure for the current load.
If the vehicle's headlights are shining into the trees or the vehicle is leaning to one side, it is not level. Raise the air pressure to correct either of these problems and level the vehicle.
If the vehicle has a rough or harsh ride, it may be due to either too much pressure or not enough. Try different pressures to determine the best ride comfort.
Stability translates into safety and should be the priority, meaning the driver may need to sacrifice a perfectly level and comfortable ride. Stability issues include roll control, bounce, dive during braking, and sponginess. Tuning out these problems usually requires an increase in pressure. If the front of the vehicle dives while braking, increase the pressure in the front air bags if equipped. If the vehicle rocks and rolls, adjust the air pressure to reduce movement.

Mark the bottom of the right-hand and left-hand coil springs and lower spring seat mounts with chalk or a paint marker to ensure the spring is put back the same way it is removed. This ensures proper alignment and suspension geometry.
You must lower the axle carefully and avoid putting stress on the flexible brake lines. Excessive stress on brake lines can damage them and compromise braking safety.
Install the swivel fitting into the top of the air spring finger tight plus 1½ turns. Do not overtighten, as this can damage the fitting or air spring.
The finished assemblies are left and right-hand specific. The fittings that are on the top of the air springs should be facing the outside (tire side) of the vehicle once in position. Position the air spring assemblies so that the fittings are outboard and away from each other.
The slot in the lower bracket is used to index a 3/8" carriage bolt for initial positioning of the assembly on the axle. The carriage bolt is inserted into the slot and then aligned with the existing hole in the front of the lower jounce bumper strike plate.
A socket with extension is necessary to reach the inside threads on the carriage bolt that was previously set into position. It may be helpful to pull the carriage bolt out slightly so that it can be angled enough to get started on the thread.

After the 10-mile road test, recheck for clearance, loose fasteners, and air leaks. The vehicle should be road tested after clearance, leak, heat, and fastener tests have been completed.
Recheck the air spring system after 30 days or 500 miles (800 km), whichever comes first. If any part shows signs of rubbing or abrasion, identify and move the source if possible. If it is not possible to relocate the cause of the abrasion, the air spring may need to be remounted. Check all fasteners for tightness.
Recheck air pressure after the vehicle has been used for 24 hours. If the pressure has dropped more than 5 PSI (0.34 BAR), there is a leak that must be fixed. Either fix the leak yourself or return to the installer for service.
