For the conqueror in every truck, Jeep or SUV owner, the ARIES grille guard offers the tough, trail-ready look you demand. It begins with a one-piece frame of 1/4" thick welded plates and 1-1/2" mandrel-bent tubing for a solid build. Each one is made with a vehicle-specific design for a better fit, easier install and more secure mounting. The side brush guards are custom-bent to contour to the profile of your vehicle, while the mounting brackets are positioned for a no-drill application. This means pre-existing factory holes are used to ensure optimum fitment and less vibration. This particular custom grille guard fits specific years of the Jeep Wrangler JK (see application info to verify). The ARIES grille guard also makes it easy to customize the look of your vehicle. Not only does the crossbar have two pre-drilled holes for mounting aftermarket LED lights, but many of our grille guards are also available in two finish options -- polished stainless steel or semi-gloss black steel. The stainless steel grille guard is made with 304 stainless, being high in nickel content and truly resistant to rust and corrosion. This option comes with a mirror-like polished finish for a definitive shine. The semi-gloss black grille guard is made with high-strength carbon steel for added strength. It features a tough, dual-layer E-coat and black powder coat finish to protect against rust, scratches and the elements. All ARIES grille guards also come with rubber stripping along the risers to protect the frame against scuffs and scratches.

The ARIES 1050 1-1/2-Inch Black Steel Grille Guard, No-Drill, Select Jeep Wrangler JK (Part #BBDR1050) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The Curt 1050 grille guard is designed for 07-16 Jeep J/K Wrangler models. However, the installation procedure includes a model-specific variation: 2007-2009 models use the outer mounting location for the passenger side frame bracket, while 2010-2016 models use the inner mounting location. Verify your model year before purchasing to ensure correct fitment.
The kit includes: 1 grille guard, 2 driver/left and passenger/right frame mounting brackets, 2 driver/left and passenger/right top mounting brackets, 8 12-1.75mm x 30mm hex bolts, 18 12mm x 24mm OD x 2.5mm flat washers, 10 12-1.75mm nylon lock nuts, 2 10-1.5mm x 30mm button head bolts, 4 10mm x 20mm OD x 2mm flat washers, 2 10mm nylon lock nuts, 2 8mm special rod bolts, 2 12mm x 35mm bolt plates, 2 12mm plastic retainers, 2 8mm x 28mm OD x 3mm large flat washers, and 2 8mm nylon lock nuts.
Bumper removal is not strictly required, but it is recommended. The manual states that grille guard brackets can be installed without removing the bumper, but bracket installation and fill panel modification are easier with the bumper removed. If your vehicle has factory fog lights, you must unplug them before removing the bumper.
Yes, assistance is recommended. The manual explicitly states in Step 1 that assistance is recommended, and Step 13 specifies that lifting the grille guard into position requires assistance.
Two types of cutting are required: (1) Cut slots in the plastic fill panel on top of the frame to clear the top brackets. Each slot must be 1-3/4" long and 3/8" wide. Do not cut completely through the front edge of the fill panel. (2) Cut sections from the plastic lower splash guard to clear the frame mounting brackets. Remove as little material as possible to maintain strength, and do not cut completely through the front or rear edge of the splash guard.
Use removable tape (masking tape) to create a straight line between the two factory mounting holes across the width of the cover. Starting on the passenger side, place a mark 1-3/4" from the center of the mounting hole toward the center of the cover. Draw a 1-3/4" long line from the tape forward (front to back) on the cover ending at the front edge. Draw a parallel line 3/8" toward the center of the cover. Place the cover in position and check all reference marks before cutting. Repeat for the driver side. Do not cut completely through the front edge of the fill panel.
The installation sequence is: (1) Remove plastic lower splash guard and front bumper. (2) Remove plastic fill panel and cut slots for top brackets. (3) Install passenger and driver side top brackets through the slots. (4) Reinstall bumper and fill panel. (5) Install bolt plates and frame brackets. (6) Lift grille guard into position and attach to frame brackets. (7) Attach top brackets to grille guard. (8) Check alignment and tighten all bracket-to-vehicle hardware. (9) Temporarily remove grille guard. (10) Mark and cut splash guard to clear mounting brackets. (11) Reinstall grille guard and fully tighten all hardware.
For each side: (1) Slide the top bracket down through the slot in the fill panel and into the channel on the frame upright. (2) Insert the 8mm rod bolt into the opening at the outer corner of the base on the frame upright. (3) Feed the rod bolt through the holes in the upright, through the top bracket, and out the side of the channel. (4) Secure the rod bolt to the top bracket with the 8mm flat washer and 8mm nylon lock nut. Do not fully tighten at this time. Repeat for the driver side.
For each side: (1) Slide the 12mm bolt plate under the inner side of the frame upright and up through the hole in the side of the upright. (2) Thread the plastic retainer onto the threaded end of the bolt plate to hold it in position. (3) Hold the frame bracket up against the bottom of the cross member. (4) Attach the upper tab of the bracket to the bolt plate with a 12mm flat washer and 12mm nylon lock nut. Leave loose. (5) Line up the remaining mounting hole on the frame bracket with the hole in the bottom of the cross member. (6) Attach the bracket to the cross member with a 12mm x 30mm hex bolt, two 12mm flat washers, and a 12mm nylon lock nut. Do not tighten hardware. Note: 2007-2009 models use the outer mounting location; 2010-2016 models use the inner mounting location.
With assistance, lift the grille guard up to the inside of the frame brackets. Line up the holes in the frame brackets with the holes in the grille guard. Attach the grille guard to the frame brackets using 6 12-1.75mm x 30mm hex bolts, 12 12mm flat washers, and 6 12mm nylon lock nuts. Push the grille guard back into an upright position. Secure the top brackets to the inside of the grille guard using 2 10mm x 30mm button head Allen bolts, 4 10mm flat washers, and 2 10mm nylon lock nuts. Snug but do not tighten all hardware at this time.
Stand back from the vehicle and check that the grille guard is centered and level. Adjust as required by slightly loosening the frame brackets if necessary. Once properly aligned, fully tighten all bracket-to-vehicle hardware only. Do not tighten the grille guard-to-bracket hardware at this stage. Temporarily remove the grille guard to proceed with splash guard modification.
After aligning the grille guard and tightening bracket-to-vehicle hardware, temporarily remove the grille guard. Hold the plastic lower splash guard up in its original position against the frame brackets. Mark the location of the frame brackets onto the inside of the splash guard. Cut out the sections to clear the mounting brackets, starting with a small opening and slowly enlarging it for the best fit. Check for clearance and trim as required. Remove as little material as possible to maintain strength, and do not cut completely through the front or rear edge of the splash guard. Reinstall the cover using factory hardware.
Tighten in two stages: (1) After attaching the grille guard to the frame brackets and top brackets, snug but do not fully tighten all hardware. Check alignment and adjust as needed. (2) Once properly aligned, fully tighten all bracket-to-vehicle hardware only. (3) Temporarily remove the grille guard to modify the splash guard. (4) After reinstalling the grille guard in Step 16, fully tighten all hardware.
Wax the product after installing to protect your investment. Regular waxing is recommended to add a protective layer over the finish. Do not use any type of polish or wax that may contain abrasives, as these could damage the finish. For stainless steel finishes, aluminum polish may be used to polish small scratches and scuffs, and mild soap may be used to clean the grille guard. For gloss black finishes, use mild soap to clean the grille guard. Perform periodic inspections to ensure all hardware remains secure and tight.
Perform periodic inspections of the installation to make sure that all hardware is secure and tight. The manual does not specify the inspection interval, but regular checks are recommended to maintain the integrity of the installation.
Yes, the Curt 1050 is designed for 07-16 Jeep J/K Wrangler models. Note that 2007-2009 models use a different frame bracket mounting location than 2010-2016 models.
Yes, cutting is required. You must cut 1-3/4" x 3/8" slots in the plastic fill panel for the top brackets and cut sections from the plastic splash guard to clear the frame mounting brackets. Do not cut through the front edges of either panel.
Bumper removal is recommended but not required. Installation is easier with the bumper removed. If equipped with factory fog lights, unplug them before removing the bumper.
The kit includes hex bolts (12-1.75mm x 30mm and 10-1.5mm x 30mm button head), flat washers in multiple sizes, nylon lock nuts, rod bolts, bolt plates, and plastic retainers. See the parts list for complete specifications.
Wax the product after installation and regularly thereafter. Do not use abrasive polish or wax. For stainless steel, aluminum polish may be used for small scratches. For gloss black, use mild soap to clean. Perform periodic inspections to ensure all hardware remains tight.
