It begins with a one-piece frame of 1/4" thick welded plates and 1-1/2" mandrel-bent tubing for a solid build. Each one is made with a vehicle-specific design for a better fit, easier install and more secure mounting. The side brush guards are custom-bent to contour to the profile of your vehicle, while the mounting brackets are positioned for a no-drill application. This means pre-existing factory holes are used to ensure optimum fitment and less vibration. This particular custom grille guard fits specific years of the Toyota Tacoma (see application info to verify). The ARIES grille guard also makes it easy to customize the look of your vehicle. Not only does the crossbar have two pre-drilled holes for mounting aftermarket LED lights, but many of our grille guards are also available in two finish options -- polished stainless steel or semi-gloss black steel. The stainless steel grille guard is made with 304 stainless, being high in nickel content and truly resistant to rust and corrosion. This option comes with a mirror-like polished finish for a definitive shine. The semi-gloss black grille guard is made with high-strength carbon steel for added strength. The installation sequence is: (1) Remove the plastic front lower air dam and the passenger side factory hex bolt from the frame cross-member bottom. (2) Install bolt plates and frame mounting brackets on both sides of the frame cross-member, leaving hardware loose. (3) Open the hood, locate the radiator cross-member, and install bolt plates through the back and bottom of this cross-member. (4) Install top support brackets on both sides, leaving hardware loose. (5) Position the grille guard onto the mounting brackets and attach with hex bolts, leaving hardware loose. (6) Attach the top brackets to the grille guard uprights with button head bolts, leaving loose. (7) Align the grille guard and tighten all frame bracket to frame hardware. (8) Remove the grille guard, cut the air dam to clear the brackets, reinstall the air dam and grille guard, then fully tighten all hardware.
No. The manual requires a staged tightening process. Leave hardware loose during initial bracket and guard positioning (Steps 4, 7, 9, and 10). Only after aligning the grille guard properly in Step 11 should you tighten all frame bracket to frame hardware. After cutting the air dam and reinstalling it in Step 12, fully tighten all remaining hardware.
Yes. The factory hex bolt removed from the bottom of the frame cross-member in Step 2 should be reused to attach the lower mounting tab of the frame mounting bracket to the threaded hole in the bottom of the cross-member (Step 4). This applies to both the passenger and driver sides.
The 10mm nylon retainers are designed to hold the bolt plates in place during bracket installation. In Step 3, you partially thread the plastic retainer onto the bolt plate, insert the bolt plate into the large hole in the forward facing end of the frame, and then thread the retainer down tight against the frame to secure the bolt plate.
Open the hood and remove the plastic cover between the top of the radiator and the grille. This reveals the steel cross-member mid-way up in front of the radiator. The cross-member can also be viewed and accessed from below the vehicle. These fasteners should be left loose during initial positioning and only tightened after the grille guard is properly aligned.
After positioning the grille guard and all brackets, align the grille guard properly, then tighten only the frame bracket to frame hardware (the connections between the mounting brackets and the vehicle frame). Do not tighten the grille guard to bracket hardware or the top bracket to grille guard hardware at this stage. This allows for final positioning adjustments before full tightening.
Wax the grille guard after installation. Regular waxing is recommended to add a protective layer over the finish. Do not use any type of polish or wax that may contain abrasives, as these could damage the finish. For stainless steel finishes, aluminum polish may be used to polish small scratches and scuffs, and mild soap may be used for cleaning. For gloss black finishes, use only mild soap for cleaning.
