ARIES ActionTrac powered running boards are unique from other power side steps because they are actually two steps in one. This patented step-within-a-step design -- combined with a no-drill bracket installation, control module operation and powder-coated aluminum construction -- truly makes these retractable running boards an asset for the offroad truck or Jeep, particularly as lifted truck steps. ActionTrac powered running boards have one 4" wide step on top of the main housing and one 3" wide that automatically deploys as needed. When the door opens, the control module deploys the power step 8" below the main step, 15" be low the doorsill, depending on the model. This two-step design offers enhanced safety and easier vehicle entry and exit, especially on large, lifted vehicles. It's also very helpful for families with young children and for elderly passengers. The boards contour to the vehicle and offer extra protection for the rocker panels from small road debris. For additional safety, the module is able to detect any obstructions during operation to avoid pinch hazards. LED lights are also built into the housing to illuminate the steps when deployed. ARIES ActionTrac powered running boards are made for vehicle-specific installation for a custom fit. They use pre-existing factory holes for the brackets to eliminate drilling. They also do not require any splicing into factory wiring. These particular running boards fit specific years of the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon (see application info to verify fitment). Each set is constructed from powder-coated aluminum to be strong, lightweight and non-corrosive. The quiet, maintenance-free rotary motor is shielded within the main housing, along with the power step pivot points and all electrical components, protecting them from the harsh elements. NOTE: Boards, brackets and wiring are included.

The ARIES ActionTrac 83.6" Powered Running Boards, Select Colorado, Canyon Crew Cab Step Nerf Bar Kit (Part #BBDR3047904) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The kit includes two running boards (driver and passenger side), six mounting brackets, six T-rails, 12 clip nuts (M8), 12 hex bolts (M8 x 25mm), 24 flat washers (M8), 12 lock washers (M8), 12 nylock nuts (5/16"), two rubber grommets, four door sensors, two door sensor extensions, four magnets, two alcohol wipes, one power switch, one circuit board, anti-seize compound, wire loom, a two-piece wiring harness, two LED lights, two LED light brackets, and double-sided foam tape (eight pieces of 3/4" x 3/4" and four pieces of 1/2" x 1/2"). Note: running boards are sold separately.
You will need a ratchet, drill, socket set, drill bit set, zip ties, and a level. A torque wrench is recommended to ensure fasteners are tightened to specification.
The manual rates installation difficulty as moderate. However, the manual includes a specific warning: improper electrical installation may result in personal injury. Unless you are familiar with the installation and handling of electrical systems, have the electrical work performed by someone who has that familiarity.
No maintenance is required on the waterproof harness or water-resistant motors. If mud or dirt builds up on the steps, spray them off and let them air dry. Mild automotive detergent may be used to clean the product. Do not use dish detergent, abrasive cleaners, abrasive pads, wire brushes or similar products that may damage the finish. Periodic inspection of all wires and connections should be performed to ensure there is no visible damage or loose connections. After installation, periodic inspections should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight.
The manual does not specify which vehicles are compatible. Contact CURT at 844-278-4357 or consult a fitment database to confirm compatibility with your vehicle.
No. The running boards are sold separately. The kit includes the mounting brackets, T-rails, fasteners, wiring harness, sensors, LED lights, power switch, and circuit board, but the actual running board steps must be purchased separately.
Yes. Step 5 explicitly states "With help, carefully place the running board onto the mounting brackets." At least one additional person is required to position the running board during installation.
The manual does not explicitly require battery disconnection. However, the manual states that the fuse must be removed from the wiring harness before installation (Step 8), and the electrical work warning recommends having electrical installation performed by someone familiar with electrical systems.
You must remove the front and rear door trim panels on both sides of the vehicle. The manual also states: "Remove any other vehicle components that could interfere with the wiring harness."
Install brackets on the driver side first, starting at the front. For each location (front, middle, rear): remove two hole plugs, insert two M8 clip nuts through the access holes, place the mounting bracket on the vehicle, and secure with two M8 hex bolts, lock washers, and flat washers. Snug the hardware but do not fully tighten. Repeat the process for the middle and rear brackets on the driver side, then repeat all steps on the passenger side.
Insert three T-rails into the slot on the running board, positioning each T-rail as close to the mounting bracket location as possible. When placing the board onto the brackets, align the T-rails with the mounting brackets, slide the top mounting track on the board over the top flange on each bracket, and adjust the T-rails in the lower track so the studs drop into the slots on the bottom of each mounting bracket.
Each T-rail stud is secured with one M8 flat washer and one 5/16" nylock nut. Use these fasteners for the front, middle, and rear mounting brackets. Snug the hardware but do not fully tighten until the running board is adjusted to the desired location.
The manual recommends tightening all brackets to the vehicle first, followed by the running board connections. This should be done after the running board is adjusted to the desired location (Step 7).
The LED light bracket attaches to one of the T-rail studs at the rear mounting bracket. Place the bracket over the stud before securing it with the M8 flat washer and 5/16" nylock nut.
Remove the fuse from the wiring harness before installing. Attach the fused section of the harness to the battery. Route the opposite end of the harness through the firewall into the cab of the vehicle. Zip-tie the wiring harness in place once it is in the desired location.
Route the second section of the wiring harness under the carpet, through the vehicle, from the passenger-side rear to the desired location. The manual provides wiring diagrams showing the routing path.
Yes. Two drilling operations are required: (1) If there is no factory plug in the floor behind the driver seat, drill a 1" hole through the floor near the rear bracket to route the rear actuator and LED light. (2) Drill a 3/4" hole in the panel where you want to install the power switch. Before drilling, confirm there are no wires or obstructions in the drilling location.
Drill a 3/4" hole in the panel where you want to install the power switch. Before drilling, confirm there are no wires behind the panel.
Drill a 1" hole through the floor of the vehicle near the rear bracket location. This is required only if there is no factory plug in the floor behind the driver or passenger seat. Before drilling, make sure there are no obstructions in the drilling location.
If you use a factory floor plug behind the driver or passenger seat to route the rear actuator and LED light, you must cut a slot in the floor plug and re-insert it into the hole. If there is no factory plug, drill a 1" hole instead.
M8 bolts should be torqued to 7 ft-lbs.
5/16" bolts should be torqued to 7 ft-lbs.
Driver-side front door sensor: Yellow / Orange. Driver-side rear door sensor: Purple / Orange.
Passenger-side front door sensor: Grey / Green. Passenger-side rear door sensor: White / Blue.
Driver-side LED light: Brown / Dark brown. Passenger-side LED light: Pink / Brown.
Both driver-side and passenger-side actuators use Black / Red wires.
Depending on your vehicle, you may need to use the supplied sensor harness extensions for the two front door sensors. The manual includes two door sensor extensions in the parts list.
Plug the door sensor into the wiring harness and route it up the door frame, under the carpet. Once routed to the desired location, wipe the sensor and door with the provided alcohol wipe. Place two pieces of 1/2" x 1/2" double-sided tape on the sensor and attach the sensor to the vehicle. Repeat for all four doors.
Using the 3/4" x 3/4" double-sided tape, place the magnet on the door so it lines up with the sensor. Repeat for all four doors.
Locate a spot to install the power switch and drill a 3/4" hole in the panel. Before drilling, confirm there are no wires behind the panel. Wire the switch into place. Important: plug the blue female wires into the silver male ends and the red female wire into the bronze male end.
Place the circuit board underneath the carpet under the rear passenger seat. Attach the two wiring harnesses and re-install the fuse removed in Step 8.
A 20A fuse is used in the wiring harness.
Once all wiring is installed, cover the wires with slit loom for extra protection.
Use of the switch requires manual operation of the boards. Failure to retract the boards when operating the vehicle could result in damage to the boards or vehicle.
Before drilling, confirm there are no wires or obstructions in the drilling location. The manual specifically warns: "Make sure there are no obstructions in the drilling location" for the 1" floor hole and "Confirm there are no wires behind the panel prior to drilling" for the 3/4" power switch hole.
After installation, periodic inspections should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight. Periodic inspection of all wires and connections should also be performed to ensure there is no visible damage or loose connections.
If mud or dirt is built up on the steps, simply spray them off and let them air dry. Mild automotive detergent may be used to clean the product. Do not use dish detergent, abrasive cleaners, abrasive pads, wire brushes or other similar products that may damage the finish.
Apply a dry, graphite powder lubricant on each pivot point.
The manual does not specify vehicle compatibility. Contact CURT at 844-278-4357 or check a fitment database with your vehicle's year, make, model, cab style, and bed length.
No, running boards are sold separately. The kit includes mounting brackets, fasteners, wiring, sensors, LED lights, power switch, and circuit board.
Yes, at least one additional person is required to position the running board onto the mounting brackets.
Yes. You must drill a 3/4" hole for the power switch. You may also need to drill a 1" hole in the vehicle floor if there is no factory plug behind the driver or passenger seat.
M8 bolts and 5/16" bolts should both be torqued to 7 ft-lbs.
A 20A fuse is used in the wiring harness.
Unless you are familiar with electrical systems, have the electrical installation performed by someone who is. Failure to retract the boards when operating the vehicle could result in damage.
No maintenance is required on the motors or harness. Periodically inspect all mounting hardware and wiring connections for tightness and damage. Clean with mild automotive detergent only.
Check the following in order: (1) Double-check all connections. (2) Check the fuse to make sure it is plugged in. (3) Verify the on/off switch is getting power. (4) Confirm the circuit board is plugged in. (5) Verify the door sensors are plugged in.
The light should only be on when the system is turned on. If it is lit in both positions, switch the red wires on the back of the switch. This will not kill your battery unless you leave it lit for a month with no use.
Check the motor first: unplug it from the wiring harness and apply external 12V power to the leads. One position will make them deploy; switch the leads to make them retract. If this works, plug the motor back in. If you hear only a clicking sound with no movement, there is likely internal damage. If the motor works, check the sensors: unplug both from the harness and plug one back in. Manually test by putting a magnet close (not touching) to the sensor. It should make the step retract. When the magnet is away, the step should deploy. If steps deploy right after installation, the magnets likely just need alignment. Test and align one sensor at a time, then mark the magnet position. If the motor and sensors both work, the circuit board may be faulty—call 844-278-4357.
The system has built-in protection against quick cycling to prevent damage. Turn your on/off switch to off, wait 5 seconds, and then turn it on again. This will reset the system and allow it to work normally.
