Some truck models require spare tire removal to provide easier access to the frame during installation. After installation, the spare tire can be replaced. Some models require the spare tire to be pushed toward the cab while being raised into position to allow clearance for the receiver hitch. Check your specific truck model during the preparation steps.
For trucks 2014 and newer, a light duty bumper mount may be present in the installation area. This mount must be removed. After removal, retain and re-install the existing M12 nuts and stud plates, and torque them to 52 ft-lbs. See Figure A1 in the manual for identification.
Any brackets or accessories not critical to the structure of the vehicle that are mounted to the bottom of the frame in the installation area may need to be removed. This includes bumper reinforcement brackets if the bumper will not be used for towing. Check the hitch location during positioning to identify any interference. Non-structural items should be removed; structural components must remain.

The kit includes: 1 hitch center section, 1 driver side plate, 1 passenger side plate, 1 trailer plug bracket, 4 × 1/2" × 2" hex head cap screws, 8 × 1/2" × 1-1/2" hex head cap screws, 12 × 1/2" hex finish nuts, 12 × 1/2" split lock washers, 4 × 3/16" × 1 × 1-1/2" spacers, 2 × 3/16" × 1-1/4" × 1-1/2" spacers, 2 × 3/16" × 1-1/2" × 3" spacers, and 2 × #14 × 3/4" sheet metal screws. Verify all parts are present before installation.
1. Assemble the hitch by attaching the side plates to the hitch center section using 1/2" × 1-1/2" bolts, lock washers, and nuts; do not fully tighten. 2. Position and mount the hitch under the frame, aligning the slots in the rear side plate ears with the holes where the 14mm bolts were removed. 3. Reinstall the 14mm bolts to secure the hitch. 4. Install remaining hardware with spacers in their proper locations. 5. Tighten hardware in two stages: first the frame-to-side plate connections, then the center section-to-side plate connections.
The side plates must be attached to the hitch center section with the "ears" of the side plates toward the outside. The side plates must mount against the bottom of the frame. Refer to the main diagram on the front page for correct orientation.
Maneuver the hitch under the frame and align the slots in the rear most side plate ears with the holes where the 14mm bolts were previously removed. Make sure the hitch is centered between the frame rails of the vehicle and that the receiver tube is parallel to the centerline of the truck. Secure the hitch by reinstalling the 14mm bolts.

Tighten hardware in two stages: 1. First, tighten the connections between the frame and the side plates. Torque the 1/2" bolts to 80 foot pounds and the 14mm bolts to 135 foot pounds. 2. Next, tighten the connections between the center section and the side plates, ensuring the edges of the side plate mounting brackets on the center section match up with the bottom and rearward edges of the side plates. Torque these bolts to 80 foot pounds.
Torque the 1/2" bolts to 80 foot pounds. This applies to both the frame-to-side plate connections and the center section-to-side plate connections.
Torque the 14mm bolts to 135 foot pounds. These bolts secure the hitch to the rear of the frame.

The trailer plug mounting bracket is optional. It is included with the hitch. Always use safety chains while towing; crossing them under the trailer tongue may prevent some damage if detachment occurs. Do not exceed the tow or tongue rating of the coupler, hitch, truck, or trailer. Understand all towing risks before proceeding. For wedge car trailers, keep the center of gravity low by loading heavy cars over the axles, never tow a single car on the front, and never exceed reasonable speeds for roadway conditions. Failure to follow these practices may cause damage to towing components or loss of attachment between truck and trailer.

Potential hazards include unexpected combustion of fuel, electric shock, burns, shifting or falling of an unstable vehicle, damage to the vehicle, and injury from tool usage. Installation must be completed by someone knowledgeable of these hazards and proper safety procedures for vehicle modifications. Eye and ear protection are required.
Periodically inspect the hitch to make sure that all fasteners are tightly secured. No specific inspection interval is provided in the manual. If fasteners become loose, re-tighten them to the specified torque values: 1/2" bolts to 80 foot pounds and 14mm bolts to 135 foot pounds.
