You will need: a 10mm wrench or socket, a drill, and a 9/32" (7mm) drill bit. A trim stick is recommended to help pry out the plastic truck bed cap during installation.
The kit includes: 1 driver side cover rail (A), 1 passenger side cover rail (B), 10 U-nuts (C), 12 M6 bolts (D), 2 hole guides (E), 2 washers (F), and 2 straps (G). The U-nuts, bolts, washers and straps are used to secure the cover rails to the truck bed.
No, you do not need to fully remove the plastic bed cap. You will pry it away slightly from the truck bed to insert the U-nuts underneath, and then drill through it to access the factory threaded holes. The cap remains on the truck during installation.
You install 5 U-nuts into the slots on each side of the truck bed, for a total of 10 U-nuts. The U-nuts fit underneath the plastic truck bed cap and onto the carbon side of the bed.
Each U-nut must be aligned with the bed rail hole. Pry the plastic truck bed cap away from the truck bed, insert the U-nut underneath the cap and onto the carbon side, and ensure it is positioned to align with the corresponding bed rail hole before drilling.
Yes. You must drill 7mm (9/32") holes through the plastic truck bed cap to access the factory threaded holes in the sheet metal underneath. The manual provides hole guides (E and F) to prevent the drill from hitting the truck bed during this process.
A 9/32" drill bit (7mm) is required. This size is used to drill through the plastic truck bed cap to access both the U-nut locations and the factory threaded holes in the sheet metal.
Slide the hole guide onto the edge of the plastic truck bed cap and position it between the cap and the bed. Align the back of the guide with the U-nut hole (guide E) or the threaded hole (guide F). The back of the guide will prevent the drill from hitting the truck bed. Drill the 7mm (9/32") hole through the cap using the guide.
The M6 bolts must be spaced approximately 3.18mm (1/8") from the bed cap. This spacing applies to bolts 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 (those going into U-nuts). The same 3.18mm (1/8") spacing must also be maintained between the strap and the bed cap at bolt position 5.
Thread the M6 bolts through the drilled holes and into the threaded holes and U-nuts, spacing them 3.18mm (1/8") from the bed cap. For bolt position 5 (the strap location), thread the M6 bolt through the washer, then through the strap, and into the hole, maintaining the 3.18mm (1/8") spacing between the strap and bed cap.
Align the slots on the cover rail onto each of the bolts. The cover rail must be positioned between the truck bed cap and the strap. Push the cover rail down so it sits tightly on top of the truck bed cap, then tighten the bolts with a 10mm open end wrench.
Yes. The installation process is identical for both sides. After installing the driver side cover rail, repeat all the same steps for the passenger side cover rail (B).
The supplemental installation sheet does not provide a final torque specification for the M6 bolts. The manual instructs you to space the bolts 3.18mm (1/8") from the bed cap and then tighten them with a 10mm wrench, but refers to 'standard install instructions at step 6' for further details.
