The Blue Ox BX88340 Adjustable Drop Receiver is a versatile and reliable addition to any towing set-up. Engineered for strength and durability, it's made from high-quality steel with a protective black powder coat finish providing excellent resistance to rust and corrosion. This adjustable drop receiver allows you to lower or raise your 2-inch receiver connection, ensuring your tow bar remains level while towing, enhancing stability and safety.

Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

The BX88340 is a 2" shank, 2" receiver adjustable drop receiver with an 8" drop/rise adjustment range and a 10K weight rating. It is designed for flat towing use only.
The BX88340 requires a 2" receiver hitch on your vehicle. If your vehicle has a 2" hitch receiver, the BX88340 will fit. If your vehicle has a 2-1/2" receiver, you will need a different model (BX88418 is available as an add-on kit for 2-1/2" receivers).
No. The BX88340 is designed for flat towing use only. It must not be used for any other towing application.
You need only a tape measure. The BX88340 uses pins and lynch pins for adjustment and does not require wrenches, sockets, or other tools.
The BX88340 includes: one bolt bag (63-4845), one 5/8" x 3" effective pin with clip (200-1483), one 1/4"-20 x 3/8" stainless steel set screw (201-1142), one 2" adjustable drop receiver (210-0197), one adjustable drop receiver mount (210-0198), two 3/16" x 1-1/4" lynch pins (229-0829), one 1/8" drive x 3-3/4" long hex key (229-1227), and two 5/8" diameter x 3-1/2" effective pins, zinc plated (299-0801).
The manual does not specify any vehicle components that must be removed. Installation involves sliding the receiver into your vehicle's existing hitch receiver and securing it with pins. Consult your vehicle's documentation or a professional installer if you have concerns about clearance or interference.
1. Slide the adjustable drop receiver into your vehicle's hitch receiver, insert the 5/8" pin through the receiver, and insert the clip into the pin. 2. Measure the tab height of your vehicle's attachment point. Install the adjustable receiver onto the receiver shank using the 5/8" x 3-11/16" pins with 3/16" x 1-1/4" lynch pins. 3. Measure the height of the adjustable receiver. The receiver height must be the same as or 3" above or below the height of the vehicle attachment tabs; adjust as necessary by moving up or down the holes (each hole allows 1" of adjustment). 4. Insert the set screw to eliminate excess play. 5. Insert your tow bar into the receiver and set it up per the tow bar manufacturer's instructions.
The BX88340 provides an 8" total drop/rise adjustment range. Each hole on the receiver allows for 1" of height adjustment. You can move the receiver up or down to achieve the correct height relative to your vehicle's attachment tabs.
The receiver height must be the same as the height of your vehicle's attachment tabs, or 3" above or below that height. Measure your vehicle's tab height first, then adjust the receiver position by moving it up or down the holes (each hole = 1" adjustment) until the receiver height matches one of these three acceptable positions.
The 1/4"-20 x 3/8" stainless steel set screw is inserted after the receiver height is set to eliminate any excess play between the adjustable receiver and the receiver shank.
When properly installed, the lynch pin ring will snap back onto itself, and the chamfered side will be facing outwards. If the ring does not snap back or the chamfered side is facing inward, the pin is not correctly seated.
The BX88340 has a 10K weight rating. The towing weight must not exceed the hitch weight rating of 10,000 lbs. Do not exceed this limit.
The BX88340 is designed as a primary receiver for flat towing. If you are considering using it with accessories such as a bike rack, consult Blue Ox customer service at (402) 385-3051. Add-on kits (BX88417 for 2" receivers and BX88418 for 2-1/2" receivers) are available and are rated for 500 lbs when used with accessories.
The BX88340 fits vehicles with a 2" receiver hitch. If you have a 2-1/2" hitch, you need model BX88418 instead.
The BX88340 is rated for 10,000 lbs. Do not exceed this weight limit.
No drilling is required. The BX88340 uses pins and lynch pins to secure it to your vehicle's existing hitch receiver.
