Gooseneck equipment is the brand's signature. The Wedge-Latch® Coupler is a trailer coupling device manufactured by Cequent Performance Products (part number F3291) that connects a trailer to a towing vehicle. It uses a locking lever mechanism to secure the trailer's hitch ball in a ball pocket. The coupler is available in two configurations: A-Frame (for bolting to trailer tongue members) and Flat-Mount (for mounting on a plate). It is designed for use with 50-degree trailer tongues only.
The Wedge-Latch® Coupler can only be used with 50-degree trailer tongues. This is a fixed requirement and cannot be adapted to other tongue angles.
A minimum coupler/tongue overlap of 6.5 inches is required. The coupler's internal stop must be butted against the end of the trailer tongue to achieve maximum overlap before securing.
Only grade 5 hardware must be used. This applies to all bolts, locknuts, and fasteners used in the installation, whether for A-Frame, Flat-Mount, or Adjustable Height Channel mounting bracket configurations.

1. Block the trailer wheels. 2. Align the hitch ball beneath the coupler. 3. Open the coupler locking lever and, while holding it fully open, lower the coupler over the hitch ball until the ball is fully seated in the ball pocket. 4. If the locking lever was pinned open, remove the pin. Move the locking lever to the closed position. Check that the latch is engaged by lifting up on the back of the locking lever. Verify that the hitch ball is fully seated and the ball clamp is below the ball. 5. Optionally, place a 5/16" pin or lock in the hole shown. Torque specifications vary by bolt diameter and are SAE proof load specifications: 3/8" diameter bolts: 23 ft. lbs.; 1/2" diameter bolts: 55 ft. lbs.; 5/8" diameter bolts: 110 ft. lbs. For Flat-Mount couplers specifically, four 5/8" grade 5 bolts are tightened to 150 ft. lbs. For Adjustable Height Channel mounting brackets, two 5/8" x 5" grade 5 bolts are tightened to 100-110 ft. lbs.
A 3/16" minimum fillet weld is required on both sides and the top of the coupler when welding to the trailer tongue. For Adjustable Height Channel mounting brackets, a 1/4" minimum fillet weld is required all around.
Before mounting the coupler, confirm that there will be no interference from the tow vehicle, tongue, ground, and any other mounted accessories while stationary or in motion. Check for interference in both open and closed positions before installing. After installation is complete, check for interference again. If any interference is found, the coupler cannot be safely used.
Before towing, perform these checks: (1) Check the vehicle, mounting bracket, hitch, hitch ball, and coupler for signs of wear or damage. (2) Verify that the coupler handle opens and closes freely. (3) If the coupler or mounting bracket is deformed or damaged, replace the complete coupler and mounting bracket. (4) Replace any bent, broken, or worn parts. (5) Close the coupler securely, ensuring the hitch ball is fully seated in the ball pocket and the pin is inserted behind the collar or through the latch. (6) Check mounting bracket hardware for wear and proper tightness; tighten to appropriate SAE proof load specifications using only grade 5 hardware. (7) Verify that trailer safety chains are properly connected to the towing vehicle and trailer according to SAE J684. (8) Ensure all trailer lighting is hooked up and working properly.
Do not exceed the lesser of the weight ratings for the mounting bracket, coupler, hitch, vehicle, ball, or trailer (including load). You must weigh your trailer plus any added load and ensure the total does not exceed any of these component ratings. The manual does not provide specific weight capacity numbers for the coupler itself.

Do not use the coupler. After installing the mounting bracket and/or coupler, if coupler operation has been impaired in any way, do not use it. After installation, check to make sure that coupler operation has not been impaired. If it has been, the coupler must not be used until the problem is corrected.
If the coupler is to be primed or painted after installation, make sure excess paint or primer buildup is removed from the ball pocket and latching mechanism. Paint buildup in these areas can impair coupler operation.
The following procedures should be performed at least annually: (1) Check set screw torque. (2) Grease the ball pocket. (3) Oil pivot points with SAE 30 weight motor oil. (4) Inspect the retaining pin and replace if necessary. Additionally, keep the ball pocket and mechanism clean at all times. When parking or storing the trailer, keep the coupler off the ground so dirt and other foreign material will not build up in the coupler ball pocket.

If the latch is not engaged, the coupler is not secure and you must not tow. To verify the latch is engaged, lift up on the back of the locking lever after closing it. If the coupler handle does not open and close freely, the coupler operation has been impaired. Do not use the coupler. Inspect it for damage, deformation, dirt, or debris in the ball pocket or latching mechanism. Clean the ball pocket and mechanism thoroughly. If the handle still does not move freely, the coupler must be replaced.
If the coupler or mounting bracket is deformed or damaged, replace the complete coupler and mounting bracket. Do not attempt to repair a deformed coupler. A damaged coupler cannot safely support the trailer load.
Check mounting bracket hardware for wear and proper tightness before towing. Replace any bent, broken, or worn hardware. Tighten all hardware to the appropriate SAE proof load specifications using only grade 5 hardware. For 5/8" bolts, torque to 110 ft. lbs. (or 100-110 ft. lbs. for Adjustable Height Channel brackets, or 150 ft. lbs. for Flat-Mount couplers).
