When a custom hitch is not available for your vehicle, CURT offers the multi-fit hitch. Designed to be the ultimate in versatility, CURT universal trailer hitches fit several different vehicle manufacturers, including Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Ford, GMC, Jeep, Nissan, Oldsmobile, Plymouth, Pontiac and Toyota. The multi-fit hitch is a universally designed alternative to our custom hitches. It provides a more affordable option and flexibility in installation. Very simply, a CURT multi-fit trailer hitch uses a sliding or adjustable frame to match the width of your vehicle's frame. In general, multi-fit hitches are used on mid-size and full-size pickup trucks and SUVs. This class 2 multi-fit trailer hitch features a gross trailer weight capacity of 3,500 lbs., a tongue weight capacity of 350 lbs. and a 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" receiver tube opening, making it an excellent choice for towing smaller utility trailers, boat trailers and popup campers, as well as cargo carriers and bike racks (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component). It comes with mounting hardware and instructions, and typically requires little or no drilling during installation.

CURT offers a variety of high-quality trailer hitches and accessories for select vehicle models. Find the perfect fit for your towing needs at TowUniverse.

Call 888-634-9494The Curt 12923 Multi-Fit Class II hitch fits a wide range of vehicles from the late 1980s through early 1990s, including Chevrolet, GMC, Ford, Dodge, Jeep, Nissan, Oldsmobile, Plymouth, Toyota, and Pontiac models. Check the vehicle fit list on page 2 of the manual for your specific make and model. Each vehicle is assigned a diagram letter (A–F) that determines which frame holes to use. Visit www.hitchinfo.com for current application coverage to confirm your vehicle is supported.
The Curt 12923 is a multi-fit hitch that accommodates six different frame sizes: 31-1/2", 33-1/2", 35", 37-1/2", 39", and 41-1/2". Each frame size is assigned a diagram letter (A through F) that shows which holes on the hitch align with the vehicle's frame. Identify your vehicle's frame size from the fit list, then use the corresponding diagram to determine correct bolt placement.
On Ford Ranger and Chevy/GMC King Cab models, the spare tire must be entirely removed for installation. On all other models, installation may be easier if the spare tire is removed and reinstalled after hitch installation, but it is not required. Check your vehicle's fit list entry to determine if you have a King Cab model.
The manual does not specify required tools. However, based on the fasteners used (1/2" bolts and nuts), you will need a wrench or socket set to fit 1/2" fasteners. Some vehicles require drilling the frame with a 9/16" drill bit, so a drill may be necessary. Contact Curt Manufacturing or visit www.hitchinfo.com for detailed tool recommendations for your specific vehicle.
Some vehicles require drilling of the frame. The manual states: "Raise hitch into position and center on vehicle frame. Mark and drill frame using a 9/16" drill." Whether drilling is required depends on your specific vehicle and frame size. Check the vehicle fit list and diagram for your model. If drilling is required, use a 9/16" drill bit.
The hitch includes: four 1/2"-13 UNC Grade 8 bolts, 1-1/2" long (part 10-10334); two 1/2"-13 UNC Grade 8 bolts, 3-1/2" long (part 10-10345); four 1/2" flat washers (part 30-00133); six 1/2" lock washers (part 30-00153); six 1/2"-13 UNC Grade 8 hex nuts (part 20-00171); and one 1/2" fishwire. The 3-1/2" bolts are used to assemble the hitch itself, and the 1-1/2" bolts are used to attach the hitch to the vehicle frame.
Installation has three main steps: (1) Identify the correct diagram letter (A–F) for your vehicle from the fit list on page 2. (2) Assemble the hitch using the 1/2" x 3-1/2" bolts, lock washers, and nuts as shown in the diagram. (3) Hold the assembled hitch up to the vehicle frame and bolt it using 1/2" x 1-1/2" bolts, flat washers, lock washers, and nuts. Note: some vehicles may require you to fishwire fasteners into position, and some vehicles require drilling the frame with a 9/16" drill.
Fishwire fasteners are a method of securing bolts when direct access to the bolt hole is limited. The manual states: "some vehicles may require you to fishwire fasteners into position." A 1/2" fishwire is included in the parts kit. The fishwire diagram on page 1 shows the driver and passenger side frame rails. Whether fishwire installation is required depends on your specific vehicle. If required, the fishwire is used to guide fasteners into position on the frame.
The manual does not provide torque specifications for any fasteners. Contact Curt Manufacturing or visit www.hitchinfo.com for torque values for the 1/2"-13 UNC Grade 8 bolts used in assembly and frame attachment.
When used as a weight-carrying hitch, the Curt 12923 has a gross load capacity of 3500 lbs trailer weight and 350 lbs tongue weight. However, you must not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. Always verify your vehicle's towing limits before towing.
After installation, periodically check that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. The manual emphasizes: "PERIODICALLY CHECK THIS RECEIVER HITCH TO ENSURE THAT ALL FASTENERS ARE TIGHT AND THAT ALL STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS ARE SOUND." This should be done before each towing use and at regular intervals during ownership.
The manual requires periodic inspection to ensure all fasteners remain tight and structural components are sound. It does not specify an exact inspection interval. Inspect the hitch before each towing use and at regular intervals during ownership. Tighten any loose fasteners immediately.
