The multi-fit hitch is a universally designed alternative to our custom hitches. It provides a more affordable option and flexibility in installation. Very simply, a CURT multi-fit trailer hitch uses a sliding or adjustable frame to match the width of your vehicle's frame. In general, multi-fit hitches are used on mid-size and full-size pickup trucks and class 3 multi-fit trailer hitch features a gross trailer weight capacity of 5,000 lbs., a tongue weight capacity of 500 lbs. and a 2" x 2" receiver tube opening, making it an excellent choice for towing utility trailers, single-horse livestock trailers, boat trailers and large campers, as well as cargo carriers and bike racks (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component). First, measure the center-to-center distance of your vehicle's frame rails. Secure the passenger-side plate insert to the main body using 1/2" x 3 1/2" bolts, lock washers, and nuts. 8. Bolt the passenger-side plate to the frame using 1/2" x 1 1/2" bolts, flat washers, lock washers, and nuts. 9. Torque all 1/2" fasteners to 64 lb-ft.
The fishwire tool is used to guide fasteners through the vehicle frame rails and prevent loss of bolts or spacers inside the frame. Insert the coiled end of the fishwire through the hitch mounting hole in the frame rail and out the access hole. Pass the coiled end through the spacer and thread the bolt into the coil. Kink the wire to keep the spacer separate from the bolt, then pull the fishwire, spacer, and bolt through the frame and out the mounting hole.
Yes, the main body assembly can be reversed for use on Ford vans. This is noted in Step 4 of the installation instructions.
During installation, the driver-side and passenger-side insert tubes must be drawn together with the main body assembly tube to achieve metal-to-metal contact.
