A CURT front trailer hitch allows you to use the front end of your vehicle for a variety of towing applications. They can be used for mounting a winch, a snow plow, a number of towing accessories and can even be used for some trailering applications. When space is limited, a front trailer hitch is commonly used to hold a cargo carrier, freeing up space inside the vehicle for extra cargo and making the rear mount receiver available to pull a trailer. At the boat ramp, your boat trailer can be hitched up to the front receiver hitch, giving you better control over the trailer as you launch. Some of the other accessories that can be used with a front tow hitch are the CURT winch mount, step pad, license plate holder, spare tire mount, skid shield and tow hooks. All CURT front trailer hitches provide a useful receiver tube to accept a 2" x 2" shank, and they are commonly used on trucks, vans and SUVs. This front trailer hitch is rated for 3,000 lbs. GTW and 300 lbs. TW. It also has a straight-line pull rating of 9,000 lbs. It is designed to be a custom trailer hitch for certain years of the Jeep Cherokee, Comanche and Wagoneer (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary hardware for a complete installation and is backed by a limited lifetime warranty.

The kit includes: 2× 1/2"-13 UNC 2-1/4" grade 8 bolts (part 10-10304); 4× M10×1.5 35mm class 10.9 hex head cap screws (part 10-10498); 2× 1/2"-13 UNC serrated flange nuts (part 20-00062); 4× 7/16" split-lock washers (part 30-00163); 2× 0.250" × 1.50" × 2.00" square hole spacers (part CM-SP1); 2× 0.500" × 1.25" × 2.50" round hole spacers (part CM-SP52); and 2× 1/2" fishwire (part 1_2 FISHWIRE).
Torque all 1/2" hardware to 110 ft-lbs and all 10mm hardware to 45 ft-lbs. This is specified in step 10 of the installation.
The installation follows these steps: (1) Remove skid shield; (2) Remove or trim lower fascia; (3) Remove stabilizer bar fasteners and brackets; (4) Raise hitch, stabilizer bar, and brackets into position (flatten frame rail lip if needed); (5) Install 10mm hex bolts and washers through stabilizer bar brackets, hitch side plates, and into weldnuts; (6) Drill 17/32" holes into frame rails using hitch as template; (7) Position SP52 spacers between frame rails and side plates; (8) Fishwire 1/2" carriage bolts and SP1 spacers through frame access holes and out the drilled holes; (9) Remove fishwires and secure with 1/2" flange nuts; (10) Torque all fasteners.
Fishwires are included in the kit (2× 1/2" fishwire, part 1_2 FISHWIRE). In step 8, you thread the fishwires through the access holes in the frame and out the holes drilled in step 6. The fishwires are then used to guide the 1/2" carriage bolts and SP1 spacers through the same path. Once the bolts and spacers are in place, you remove the fishwires and secure everything with 1/2" flange nuts in step 9.
Two types of spacers are used: SP1 spacers (0.250" × 1.50" × 2.00" square hole, qty 2) and SP52 spacers (0.500" × 1.25" × 2.50" round hole, qty 2). The SP52 spacers are positioned between the frame rails and side plates in step 7. The SP1 spacers are threaded through the frame access holes along with the 1/2" carriage bolts in step 8.
The front axle GAWR is the maximum weight your vehicle's front axle is designed to carry. You must not exceed this rating when using front-mounted accessories. Exceeding GAWR may overload the front axle and suspension, resulting in accident, property damage, and personal injury. Find your vehicle's GAWR in the owner's manual or on the specification plate located on the driver's door frame. Measure gross front axle weight by placing the front wheels of your loaded vehicle on a scale.
No. The manual explicitly warns: never use a ball and/or ball mount as an anchor point for a tow strap or winch cable. Severe personal injury or death could result. Use OEM tow hooks, recovery eyes, or a clevis mount instead.
For maximum line pull rating, the winch cable must not exceed a 15-degree angle up or down from horizontal, and must not exceed a 45-degree angle left or right from straight ahead. Exceeding these angles may overload the winch, winch mount, and/or front-mounted receiver.
Attach the return cable to the tow hook or recovery eye when using a snatch block. Do not attach the return cable to the winch mount, as this may overload the winch mount and/or front-mounted receiver.
