The CURT 29538 2-Speed Winch has a rated load capacity of 3,800 lbs. (1,723.7 kg). CURT also offers three other models: 29520 (2,000 lbs.), 29526 (2,600 lbs.), and 29532 (3,200 lbs.).

Yes, the winch can be used for boat loading. However, when loading a boat onto a trailer without keel or side hull rollers, the trailer must be submerged in water when the boat is loaded by the winch. Attempting to drag the boat onto the trailer while on land can cause winch failure and possibly personal injury and property damage.
Required tools are: ratchet, sockets (9/16", 3/4", 15/16", 10mm), wrenches (9/16", 10mm), and socket 10mm. Proper tools will improve installation quality and reduce installation time.
To secure the winch to the mounting location, you need three grade 5, 3/8" diameter bolts, three lock washers, six flat washers, and three nuts. This hardware is not included with the winch and must be supplied separately.

Torque the cable anchor nylon nuts to 2 ft-lbs.
Wear impact safety glasses and heavy duty work gloves. Do not wear loose clothing, jewelry, or long sleeves that can be caught in moving parts. Wear protective hair covering to prevent long hair from becoming caught. Do not overreach the winch. Keep proper footing and balance to prevent tripping, falling, or back injury. Stand back and stay out of the direct line that the winch strap is pulling, as a slipped or broken strap will whip-lash along this line. Never use the winch for lifting equipment or humans.
Always verify the strap/cable hook is properly engaged to the load prior to operating the winch. Check for damaged parts and any other conditions that may affect operation. Replace or repair damaged or worn parts immediately. Check the strap before each use for signs of wear and replace immediately if wear is visible.
Always maintain a firm grip on the winch handle and do not release the handle until the ratchet pawl is properly engaged. Release the handle slowly to be sure the ratchet lever is fully supporting the load. Never let go of the handle prior to engaging the ratchet lever, as this may cause the handle to spin dangerously.
