The CURT 18416 is an ActiveLink™ ball mount designed to attach to an ActiveLink shank that is pre-installed in a vehicle's receiver. It provides a connection point for towing trailers. The product has a gross trailer weight capacity of 3,500 lbs and a tongue weight capacity of 350 lbs.
The ActiveLink shank must already be installed in your vehicle's receiver before you install the 18416 ball mount. The shank installation must be completed according to the shank's own installation instructions. The ball mount connects to this pre-installed shank.
You will need: a 1-1/8" socket, a 1-5/8" wrench, and a torque wrench. These tools are required to remove the hitch ball, install it in the correct orientation, and torque the nut to the specified value.
1. Ensure the anti-rattle handwheel is loosened by turning counter-clockwise and the clevis pin is removed. 2. Align and insert the ball mount into the ActiveLink shank, resting the ball mount's notch on the bolt at the bottom. 3. Align the holes and insert the clevis pin, snapping the wire loop onto the pin. 4. Turn the anti-rattle handwheel clockwise until no movement of the ball mount is noticed. 5. Remove the hitch ball using a 1-5/8" wrench and 1-1/8" socket. 6. Orient the hitch ball in the ball mount as shown in the manual, install the lock washer and nut, and torque the nut to 160 ft-lbs.
The hitch ball nut must be torqued to 160 ft-lbs using a torque wrench.
Yes, if desired, the ActiveLink ball mount can be used in the drop position. You will need to orientate the ActiveLink shank in the vehicle's receiver as shown in the manual and tighten the anti-rattle bolt per the ActiveLink shank installation instructions.
Before installation, ensure the anti-rattle handwheel is sufficiently loosened by turning it counter-clockwise, and verify that the clevis pin is removed. The ActiveLink shank must already be installed in the vehicle's receiver per its own installation instructions.
The gross trailer weight (GTW) capacity is 3,500 lbs and the tongue weight (TW) capacity is 350 lbs. Never exceed these capacities or your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
The anti-rattle bolt, clevis pin, and hitch ball must all be properly installed before towing. Ensure the anti-rattle handwheel is tightened until no movement of the ball mount is noticed, the clevis pin is inserted with its wire loop snapped onto the pin, and the hitch ball nut is torqued to 160 ft-lbs.
Turn the anti-rattle handwheel clockwise until no movement of the ball mount is noticed. Do not over-tighten, as over-tightening the handwheel may damage the shank insert.
