A CURT 5th wheel trailer hitch is the ultimate combination of towing power and smooth driving, but a CURT 5th wheel mounted on a 5th wheel roller turns this gentle giant into the ultimate in mobility too. If you have a short-bed truck, it can be difficult towing a large RV trailer, especially one with an extended front overhang. When you are towing a 5th wheel with a 6-foot truck bed, give yourself a little breathing room with a CURT 5th wheel roller. Our 5th wheel rollers mount easily onto a set of 5th wheel rails or a gooseneck adapter already installed in the bed of your pickup truck. CURT 5th wheel rollers feature solid construction and offer a sturdy mounting place for your 5th wheel hitch, ensuring that none of its towing strength is lost. CURT 5th wheel rollers are also true rolling units, meaning they actually roll on wheels that bear the weight of the trailer rather than simply moving on hollow rods as seen in competitive models. With a thick operating handle, the roller smoothly rolls the 5th wheel head forward and back, locking securely into each position as desired. CURT rollers also provide up to 12" of displacement as well, unlike the more common 10", to give you a wide range of motion and plenty of space to get your RV or other 5th wheel trailer around any turn. This 24K 5th wheel roller comes with a durable carbide powder coat to ensure the best possibly protection against scratching, chipping, rusting and UV damage. It has a towing capacity of 24,000 lbs. and is compatible with select CURT 5th wheel hitches and some competitive 5th wheel hitches.

CURT offers a variety of high-quality trailer hitches and accessories for select vehicle models. Find the perfect fit for your towing needs at TowUniverse.

The R24 is a 5th wheel roller hitch component designed for use with 5th wheel trailers weighing up to 24,000 lbs. It allows the 5th wheel head to move 12 inches rearward for maneuvering and 12 inches forward for towing, providing flexibility in positioning the trailer relative to the tow vehicle. The roller assembly slides into base rails that are pre-installed in the truck bed.
The R24 roller is designed for 5th wheel trailers weighing up to 24,000 lbs. Never use the R24 on trailers exceeding 24,000 lbs. Additionally, never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
Yes. The mounting rail kit (item 11) is sold separately and must be ordered. The R24 roller slides into slots on the top surface of the base rails, which must be properly installed and parallel with each other before assembly begins.
The 16545 5th wheel head is installed with the R24 roller. It slides into the roller and is secured from the inside with four 14mm bolts torqued to 100 foot lbs. The head can be adjusted to different heights using the adjustment holes in its mid section.
No. Although the R24 roller repositions your 5th wheel hitch 12 inches rearward, this will not guarantee complete truck cab/trailer clearance when towing. You must verify clearance for your specific truck and trailer combination.
The kit includes: driver side roller assembly (1), passenger side roller assembly (2), driver side lock rod weldment (3), passenger side lock rod weldment (4), outer tube (5), compression spring (6), handle (7), handle grip (8), cross member weldment (9), and bolt kit (10). The mounting rail kit (11) is ordered separately. Inspect all parts for damage upon receipt.
The bolt kit (item 10) includes 6mm fasteners with nylock nuts for assembling the lock rod, outer tube, and handle, and 10mm flat head bolts for securing the cross member weldment. The 5th wheel head installation requires four 14mm bolts (supplied separately with the head).
Before assembly, check that the base rails in your truck are properly installed and parallel with each other. The diagonal dimensions should be the same when measured from the same reference point. With the base rails correctly positioned, the assembled R24 roller will drop into the slots on the top surface of the base rails.
1. Grease the ends of lock rod weldments (3) and (4). 2. Slide lock rod (3) into driver side roller assembly and lock rod (4) into passenger side roller assembly. 3. Slide outer tube (5) over lock rod (4) and secure with 6mm fastener. 4. Slide compression spring (6) over lock rod (3). 5. Slide lock rod (3) with spring into outer tube (5) and secure with 6mm fastener. 6. Slide handle (7) over lock rod (3) and secure with 6mm fastener. 7. Slide cross member weldment (9) between roller assemblies and over lock rod assembly, secure with 10mm flat head bolts and torque to 35 foot lbs. 8. Place assembled roller into base rails and pin in place with supplied hitch pins and clips.
Use 6mm fasteners with nylock nuts. Slide the outer tube over lock rod weldment (4) until holes line up and secure with a 6mm fastener, tightening until the nylock nut is fully engaged. Repeat this process when sliding lock rod (3) with compression spring into the outer tube, and when securing the handle.
Grease the ends of lock rod weldments (3) and (4) before sliding them into the roller assemblies. This is shown in Figure 3 of the manual.
Slide the 16545 5th wheel head into the R24 roller. Select the desired height using the adjustment holes in the mid section of the 5th wheel head. From the inside, secure the head unit to the R24 roller with the four 14mm bolts supplied with the head. Torque the bolts to 100 foot lbs.
The 10mm flat head bolts securing the cross member weldment (9) should be torqued to 35 foot lbs.
The four 14mm bolts securing the 16545 5th wheel head to the R24 roller should be torqued to 100 foot lbs.
The R24 roller repositions the 5th wheel hitch 12 inches rearward for maneuvering and 12 inches forward for towing. In the maneuvering position, the roller moves 12 inches rearward. In the towing position, the roller moves 12 inches forward.
Never expose hands, body parts or clothing between the truck and trailer or the truck's bed sides and trailer. Never position yourself or others under the trailer's kingpin area during coupling and uncoupling, as serious injury or death may result. Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. Before towing, ensure all base rail hitch pins are positioned correctly and all clips are secured.
After assembly, pull the handle out and rotate it as shown on the operation decal. The roller should move smoothly fore and aft on the rails. When locked in its fore and aft positions, the lock bar handle should be vertical, the red indicator should not be showing, and the green indicator should be showing. If the unit binds, ensure all bolts are torqued to proper specifications and that base rails are square and parallel.
When the R24 roller is locked in its fore and aft positions, the green indicator will be showing and the red indicator will not be showing. The lock bar handle should be vertical. These indicators confirm that the locking bars are fully engaged.
The manual requires that you properly maintain and regularly inspect the product according to the instruction sheet. Failure to do so will void the warranty. The lock rod weldments should be greased during assembly. The manual does not specify a detailed maintenance schedule beyond this.
The R24 roller requires base rails to be pre-installed in your truck bed. The base rails must be properly installed and parallel. The R24 is designed for 5th wheel trailers up to 24,000 lbs. Consult your truck and trailer manufacturer's specifications and the base rail kit documentation for fitment confirmation.
No. The mounting rail kit (item 11) is sold separately and must be ordered. It is required for installation.
Cross member weldment 10mm bolts: 35 foot lbs. 5th wheel head 14mm bolts: 100 foot lbs. All 6mm fasteners with nylock nuts should be tightened until the nylock nut is fully engaged.
Ensure all base rail hitch pins are positioned correctly and all clips are secured. Verify the lock bar handle is vertical, both lock bars are fully engaged, and the green indicator is visible. Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
When the R24 roller is locked in its fore and aft positions, the lock bar handle should be vertical. The green indicator will be showing and the red indicator will not be showing.
If the unit binds, first ensure all bolts are torqued to proper specifications: 10mm cross member bolts to 35 foot lbs and 14mm head bolts to 100 foot lbs. Second, verify that the base rails are square and parallel with each other. Misaligned or improperly torqued components will cause binding.
No. When the R24 roller is locked in its fore and aft positions, the red indicator should not be showing. The green indicator should be showing and the lock bar handle should be vertical. If the red indicator is visible, the locking bars are not fully engaged. Verify that both lock bars are fully engaged and the handle is vertical.
