You will need a chisel, a pin punch, and a torque wrench capable of measuring inch-pounds. Eye protection is required during the removal of the old drive screw head.
Yes. You must remove the old drive screws from both sides of the hitch head. This involves removing the screw head with a chisel and then removing the remaining shank with a pin punch before installing the new components.
1. Remove the old drive screw head with a chisel. 2. Remove the remaining screw shank with a pin punch. 3. Place the set key (#3) with the nose facing down into the slot of the spring clip (#2). 4. Insert the hex head screw (#1) into the spring clip and then into the hitch head, ensuring the set key is seated. 5. Repeat for the other side.
The hex head screws (M4 - 0.7 x 6, class 10.9) must be torqued to 30 inch lbs.
Wear eye protection when removing the old drive screw head with a chisel, as metal fragments may be ejected. Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity when using this hitch.
Periodically check the hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. This includes verifying that the hex head screws remain torqued to 30 inch lbs.
